I wonder when Tite picks the call ups on Monday, will Luan get a little gift? I mean the game vs Germany is on his birthday!!
I see @MatthausSammer is running the English account.... ... days until we play Brazil 😉 #GERBRA pic.twitter.com/d7VH2jpjWZ— germanfootball_dfb (@DFB_Team_EN) March 10, 2018
I think this is the call-up for the 35 man squad. I believe that's what FIFA permitted. Then, there will be a final call-up toward the end of the month. Having read the news about Dani Alves, I actually think he will be out of the Cup. He needs 3 weeks just to be re-evaluated if he will need surgery. https://globoesporte.globo.com/fute...tempo-veja-opcoes-se-ele-nao-for-a-copa.ghtml Dani Alves is important enough that he will probably still be called up, and then cut if necessary.
Dani Alves' World Cup career is over. CBF medical staff examined him and determined this injury will not heal in time. As we know, the 3 possible candidates are: - Fagner (Corinthians) - Danilo (Manchester City) - Rafinha (Bayern Munchen) I prefer Rafinha and Danilo as a sub. This isn't clubismo; Fagner is good, but he is not up to par for what the World Cup will bring. If anything, Fagner himself hasn't played since late April, and CBF staff are going to examine him. It sounds devious to hope that Fagner's own problems be serious enough to keep him out too - but the ultimate goal is to replace Alves with the best possible/available player and Fagner simply is not it.
What do you guys think of Fabinho (AS Monaco) and Mariano (Ex-Sevilla FC, currently plays for Galatasaray)? Are they good enough to replace Dani?
People might differ with me but i never like both the fullbacks bombing forward in search of goal and then run back to defend against a counter attack. A defensive minded RB will be better in the long run. A balance between attack and defense is very important at least against stronger teams. In Brazil, attack is always the buzzword - even GK ederson said after one of the ManCity games that he would love to score a goal. So, everyone is attack minded ( including the GK ) . I think whoever comes as a replacement to alves will do well to stay back and lend some solidarity to the Brazil defense. Alves and Marcelo looks very good when they join the attack. But it may not be always possible to track back quickly against tougher teams.
It will be a blessing in disguise for our defense, I think. Hoping Danilo works his way into a starting spot.
Danilo seems to play better on the left when ever I seen him play. He might be slightly better defensively that Alves but overal he is inferior.
Probably not a bad thing to have at least one FB that is more defensive and not as gung-ho on offense. But from what I've seen from Danilo, he isn't exactly that great on defense.
Not great defensively either, I would agree but I don’t think he is as gung ho offensively as Alves. I think a back 4 of Marquinhos, TS, Miranda and Marcelo is the best bet.
I see lot of people panicking at the news of dani alves missing out of wc. But RB and LB was two of our weakest positions against stronger opponents. I think we will do well now with a decent RB who sticks to his basics without trying to be flashy and extravagant. I think danilo is the right person now . However If i was tite, i would have gone with Marquinhos , miranda , silva , marcelo
I don't necessarily see Alves' loss as a problem if the coach rethinks the strategy. Like all you guys, I'd also like a back four of Marquinhos, Miranda, T Silva, and Marcelo. It looks formidable on paper with no opponent likely to breach the off-side. However, there is a loss of attacking prowess, and consequently a change in formation is needed. Brazil can't play with 3 defense-minded midfielders. A right winger will need to be introduced. But Brazil luckily have plenty of options there (Willian, D Costa), who also help out in defense. I'd prefer attackers coming back to defend than defenders going up to attack and having to cover for them. The only issue I see in this arrangement is having to choose between Paulinho and Fernandinho (Casemiro will surely start). Or is it that Paulinho gets the nod over Coutinho/Jesus? In any case, this situation improves the chances of Willian/D Costa starting. But what I think may happen is that Danilo (or whoever is chosen) will start in the group stages, and when (or if!) they perform poorly, Tite will play Marquinhos at right back. One can't play the knock out stages with a liability in the right back position. Things would be much simpler though if Alex Sandro could play right back.
I agree but i think if marquinhos plays RB then he should be given that responsibility from group stages itself rather than playing danilo in group stages and then going to marquinhos in knock out games. Because marquinhos also needs to adapt himself in that position...
Yes, Marquinhos should play from the beginning. I'll be glad if he does. However, I think Danilo/Fagner/Rafinha/Fabinho will get the nod initially. They are neither good offensively (compared to Alves) nor defensively (compared to Marquinhos and possibly even Alves). I'd earmark one of those guys plus Marquinhos for RB and choose an extra CB. Hasn't Alex Sandro played RB before? It's time for Tite to be creative. This might be a blessing in disguise. In 2006, old Cafu played instead of in-form Cicinho, and it did not go well. I was worried that Alves would commit a blunder here and there (he is not as pacey as before). Now there is a chance to solidify the RB position by being creative.
Its funny that while in other positions we have so many choices Jesus or Firmino / Alisson or Ederson / Coutinho or Willian / Fernandinho or Paulinho . But in RB position we are struggling to find a worthy replacement of a 35 year old veteran.
why does him being 35 play a role in anything? If anything that should illustrate how hard it is to find a rb in world football. He's probably the best rb in the world still.
