  1. This part of the description of the match in the first half illustrates what I posted about Babel. RK shouldhave swapped RB after the 0-2!

    "

"And so Germany again gave away a large lead where it seemed like master before the break. The Orange again showed resilience and also defended much better in the second half. Substitute Steven Bergwijn forced Antonio Rüdiger more to the field's axis, allowing Denzel Dumfries to cover/forecheck the runner Nico Schulz.

It ensured that Frenkie de Jong could attack instead of defend. Partly because of this, Van Dijk and De Ligt had their affairs better organized. Partly because of that there was faith in a victory. But the Germans struck - as the cliché prescribes - in the last minute. Nico Schulz was able to move the ball into the long corner free of birds from the edge of the sixteen: 2-3."

I really think Blind should move to the midfield instead of de Roon. This will give a much better opportunity for FDJ to shine.
However, I am not sure if Ake is the right man for the LB position.

Had to watch the ESPN replay as I was at a concert during the actual game. All the MFs were pretty bad almost the whole game. de Roon had to do better on the third goal to cover the man as he was the only one out on the wing. de Jong was standing around way too much rather than finding an opening. Was Wijanldum on the pitch? Did he have more than a handful of touches? yes de Ligt slipped on the first goal but over all the years I've been watching Ajax play that's not surprising as for some reason this pitch has always been slippery except during very warm weather. I thought he and van Dijk were decent as was Blind. Dumfries was poor on defense. Babel continues to display the worst first touch in football and as I've repeatedly said should not be playing for the NT.

The Koeman brothers figured Germany out at the half and other than the last two minutes, the Dutch dominated the game. Given the easy qualification rules, the Dutch will be at the Euros and one of the teams to beat. Germany still have much work to do.

The fact that Blind still starts at LB tells you all you need to know about Ake. Blind is not quick enough against good teams to play in the MF.

Who do you suggest can play as no. 6 for Oranje?
are Koepminers or Hendrix good options?

Look at Wijnaldum trotting around in the leadup to the third goal. Like the game was over... incredibly frustrating!

Unfortunately, the best midfielders were starting tonight.

EDIT: the only real options Koeman had on the bench were van de Beek and Vilhena. Because of the Nations Cup, there is no Euro qualifier for the Dutch until the fall. I wonder if a change or two will be made in the MF for the Nations Cup competition.

the one big change that was made at halftime was to push Dumfries way up field and play more with a back three of van Dijk, de Ligt and Blind. What was strange is that van Dijk and de Ligt were switching positions in the center a lot during the match. I don't know if this was by design.

What makes you think Blind will be better of in the midfield when he even cant defend at LB. If it was somebody else he would have long been shown the exist like to that of van der wiel and janmaat. I just dont know how much more he (daley) has to shiiiiiit before koeman gives his finger to daddy blind and says its enough.

Given the current status of the dutch midfielders it has to be a make shift midfielder like Kimmich in the german team. It has to be either Ake or (St juste who is one hell of utility player)
Akes defensive attributes is phenomenal and he is never afraid to put is body on the line. Koeman just needs to go with his guts and just like how daley Blind has been receiving the benefit of doubt at LB when he plays CB at Ajax, he ( Koeman)should give Ake the nod in the midfield as well.

Last night was a bit of one off defence wise I feel .

There was the SLIP that can happen to the best ( remember Stevie G against Chelsea) ... also they were up against Sane who’s in amazing form and is one of the fastest , most inventive wide men around .. he reminds me a little of Giggs oddly enough .
Throw in a worldie goal which was unstoppable and a winner from an unlikely source who somehow managed to get his wrong foot onto the ball to guide it into the corner .

It was a freaky game tbh

Germany's chances of winning this group improved considerably. If Holland qualify, as runners-up or via the play-offs, odds are France or Belgium will be waiting in the group phase of EURO2020. The other pot 1 teams would be Spain, England, Italy and Germany (all hosts). Holland and Russia would be the remaining two hosts, the only groups open to France or Belgium. A lot can change of course.

I'm going to stay positive and say Holland showed incredibly grit to come back 2-2 in 2nd half. We also dominated Germany until the 88th minute at least. However this team still need a quality holding midfielder, a world class winger and another striker to compliment Depay.

DeLigt, who is still only 19, will only get better with age I think. His positioning and anticipation is where he's currently lacking, but that will come with experience. As far as raw talent and physical strength is concerned he is already amongst the worlds best

Well hopefully he’ll be signing for Barca in the coming days .. I love the way he reads the game .. the way he attacks the ball and his passing - is all perfect for us ..

Think some of you may be overreacting a little bit. Some positives:

-although tactically outdone in the first half, koeman was able to make great adjustments and almost come back to win the game. The subs could be argued but whatever.

-I don’t understand the hate on Blind and Wijnaldum. I honestly thought blind had a great game, the left side was SO much more solid than the right. Almost all solid German attacks came from Dumfries being beat. Sure, Blind didn’t get up enough, but he did occasionally and had very good link up play and better service in the final third than Dumfries who I thought was wasteful. Wijnaldum had a decent game in my opinion. Who link up with Memphis was very good and he actually had positive ball movement and runs for the first time I’ve seen in a long time in the NT

    - Yes, Babel should have scored twice in the first half. But, those were saved by an almost perfect Neuer. Fantastic positioning and reflexes. I actually thought he was much better than promes.

    - I don’t see enough discontent for de Roon. I just think he isn’t good enough. He’s not a bad player, but we just needed someone better there. Someone a little more creative and maybe a step quicker.

  15. This was only possible after the Babel=>Bergwijn swap. First Babel got Dumfries into problems with his shaky ball contacts and second the Bergwijn-Dumfries combo know each other so Dumfries could charge down the line which with Babel caused danger from Germany.

  16. But every time I see him play he's wasteful as hell (thank God) with chances and he lasts only 45 minutes. Then he's gone.

I still have hopes we can fix some mistakes and take 3 points in Germany, perhaps with Danjuma and/or Dilrosun and a more focused VVD & De ligt.

The match was pretty even with an attacking edge to the Dutch who created much more in the 2nd half when the game was on the line. Two of the three German goals came from defensive mistakes which are always punished at this level; only their second goal was really outstanding. Babel's second shot hit Neuer right in the middle of the chest, I don't think there was much more Babel could have done as he hit it hard first time; that stuff happens all the time.

I thought Blind had a very good game passing the ball and had a couple runs deep into the German half. He's still not an ideal player but better than any other option right now. Other than the slip, de Ligt was very good; he often pressed Mane far up and dispossessed him or caused him to make back passes.

The club needs to find someone other than Memphis who can score goals and the MF needs more competition.

I didn't think Germany was all that special last night and their defense is rather slow.

This is tiresome; if you two want to continue this, do it via messaging. The game is over and let's move on.

  25. I think in "De Kuip" de Ligt wouldnot have slipped. I saw a few Germans slip too on that Arena pitch. Unfortunately not while we had the ball in the penalty box.
