LIVERPOOL, England, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Everton manager David Moyes says he will look to sign a striker in the January transfer window. Everton are the Premier League's lowest scorers with four goals this season, a figure that has left them in the relegation zone with three wins in 12 games. "We have the worst scoring record in the Premier League so we know where the problems are," Moyes told the club's annual general meeting on Thursday. "That's the area I feel we need to strengthen in January if possible." http://sports.yahoo.com/sow/news;_y...0aA--?slug=reu-everton&prov=reuters&type=lgns
http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2002390000-2005540761,00.html It looks like they're going after Keane, no the other one.
Keane has been on our shopping list for over a year now. He's highly likely to come in January - if he doesn't, Davey will surely be sacked.
Aside from the story, the link leaves you looking at a promo for stories on the aptly named George Best, who appears to be in his final hours. Could he have lived any harder (only four, not seven, miss worlds, says he didn't show up for the other three)? But he was something to watch. One of the very best, ever. The modern game, although it would make him a much healthier, more boring, Best, could use him. What's the quote: "I spent most of my money on birds, and booze, the rest of it I wasted." When asked whether he'd rather score the winning goal in the euro cup, or with a miss world, replied: "I don't know, I never had to chose." Here's hoping he doesn't suffer too much, and that when his life is replaying, his heart is up to it.
Two of the greatest sporting quotes of all time. What a shame- the guy clearly had a brain along with talent. BTW- There is a very funny clip on meta (somethingorother).com, which has a clip of Ali G interviewing Beckham/Posh- he absolutely rips them. Its hilarious. Beckham doesn't even try to defend himself ('cause in most cases, he simply didn't have reply)..
During a Northern Ireland - Scotland match, the Scottish manager decided to assign one of Scotland's "Hard Men" to defend Best to try to take him out of the game. Best walked around for a few minutes before breaking to recieve the ball. The Scottish defender, seeing his opportunity, closed in to take out Best. Best, anticipating what was going to happen, touched the ball through the defenders legs and ran around him to collect it. The Scottish defender, realizing he just got nutmeged, got up quickly and turned to chase after Best and possibly take him down from behind. To his horror, George Best had turned back toward the defender and was running at him again in the opposite direction. The surprised Scottish defender dove in again attempting to take Best out. Best, one step ahead, touched the ball through the defenders legs again and again ran around him to collect the ball. When the Scottish defender got up and turned to face Best again, he saw Best standing over the ball staring at him. Best motioned with his hands to the defender, "Come on." The defender, understanding that he was way, way out of his depth, motioned back with his hands, "No thanks." Best passed the ball off to a teammate. The Scottish defender may have made his reputation as a hard man, but he left George Best alone that day. The message that I interpreted from Best to the defender was, "You want to come after me? Then I come after you. Let's see how you like it then." This is a true story. It is hard to forget a player like George Best(As you can see, I have long since forgotten the name of the defender). Oh. Sorry mods. Go Josh Wolf.
I saw George in 1969 (on TV ... from the records, Oct, 22) for the USSR-Northern Ireland WCQs prior to the 1970 WC. The Soviets had three defenders on him pretty much the entire time and won 2:0. PS. Now, if Josh Wolff could copy a move or two off George (on the pitch strictly) ... PPS. It'd be interesting see if Everton would buy both Keane and Wolff. I doubt it but I do think Josh will end up in the EPL anyway.
