So it’s 1 AM in Spain right? They must be just about ready to sit down to dinner to talk about the transfer… Unless they’re still having their afternoon siesta.
I'll join the chorus, defense still wins championships in this league. Just look at the last 4 MLS cup winners. Need to get stronger at the back and have a team committed to defending.
Agree, but the Gs haven't been this way since forever (2014??). A premier club should be premier from top to bottom, but just look at their crackpot PR team from the last several years.
Sounds like the Galaxy also have a new Goalkeeper.. http://www.football-oranje.com/vermeer-can-leave-feyenoord-for-la-galaxy/
Until demonstrated otherwise, I say Steres is our best defender, so he should be firmly planted as a started to begin the season. And by similar logic, Gonzalez is our weakest defender.
I agree Polenta was our best CB, but unfair to Steres to say he's incompetent. The rest of the backline, sure.
Christian Miles (I think he does the radio broadcasts of our games???) is talking about it as if it’s done. When asked on twitter why he was talking about it as if it was done, he said because it is done. Just needs to be announced. I think this is happening... Haven’t been a big fan of Chicharito (USMNT fandom runs deep) but I’ll support him and root for him to break Zlatan’s record.
Chicharito 5 years ago would have been more interesting IMO. But I'll also be hoping he can rejuvenate his career and beat out Zlatan's (and Vela's) records!
Anyone hear any solid news on Alessandrini? Have they given up trying to resign him as a non-DP? Is he in talks (or signed) with anyone else? Do we remotely have enough TAM left to potentially sign him? We would kind of be loaded on offense if we could somehow keep him.
Logic would say that Allesandrini is out there trying to find the best situation for himself. I’d say there is a 95% chance that is elsewhere and a 5% chance it’s a one year “prove your worth/durability contract” with us. Would be awesome though.
Just came across some random Australian journo claiming he’s about to sign for Melbourne City. I would have thought a better club would have taken a flyer on him. I wish him the best if turns out to be true.
Chicharito is not done according to COG, who is more reliable than the Twitter account above (LAG_Rumors) IMO. Re: Chicharito — Told no deal as of yet. I don’t consider that a good sign or a bad sign. Just not done. #LAGalaxy #MLS— Corner Of The Galaxy (@GalaxyPodcast) January 14, 2020 Also on Alessandrini and Vermeer : @MelbourneCity are set to sign Romain Alessandrini by the end of the week subject to medical. Touched down in Melbourne within last 24hrs. #Aleague— Nick Scialpi (@ScialpiNick) January 14, 2020 1216883381989933069 is not a valid tweet id
So according to the last rumors, we'll sign Chicharito, Zambrano and HG Cameron Dunbar. Our roster would be : GK (2) : Bingham, Vom Steeg. RB (2) : Araujo, Feltscher. CB (3) : Zambrano, Gonzalez, Steres. LB (3) : Insua, Acosta, Traore. DM (1) : Kitchen. CM (3) : Jona, Lletget, Corona. CAM (3) : Kljestan, Alvarez, Cuello. Wingers (3) : Pavon, Katai, Dunbar. Strikers (2) : Chicharito, Zubak. I'm assuming Skjelvik is gone which looks like an evidence. I count 9 internationals (Feltscher, Pipo, Zambrano, Jona, Insua, Traore, Pavon, Katai, Chicharito) for 8 spots. That's 22 players so still a lot of spots open. My whishlist : - a starting DM to push Jona as a box-to-box player behind Lletget. Danny Williams is available and could be a good domestic signing IMO. - our depth up top is ridiculous. We still need at least one solid winger (Alessandrini as a TAM player with a green card would be perfect but doesn't look likely at the moment) and a backup striker (LAFC has BWP on trial right now, I wish we'd give him a look). - cheap CB depth (DePuy from G2?). - GK's backup as it looks more and more likely that Bingham will stay. I can see the club giving Vom Steeg this role and sign Eric Lopez (G2 GK) as a HG third keeper.
Per #MLS/#USL sources, Adam Jahn is set to join #ATLUTD pending the completion of his paperwork. I'm hearing #PHXRisingFC would bring in a $100,000 transfer fee for the striker.Jahn knocked ATL out of the 2017 playoffs with #Crew96 and made USL Best XI last season (17g, 7a). https://t.co/RHswqhQ2T9— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) January 14, 2020 Damn that is a move we should have been looking at
I'm fond of him and if this gets done, I'm on board. But a $17.2m deal? I feel like if we wait until June, there would be better options at that price. Perhaps the justification is that few other players would draw the expected revenue in this part of the world?
Thanks for the well laid out update or our current roster situation. I'm not sure however what you mean by "ridiculous depth up top". Currently we have zero starting quality center forwards. Let's assume we get Chichirito or an equivalent. Then we will have one starting quality cf. What happens if that starting cf gets an injury? Start Zubak? Please, no. Not only is he not starter level, he would be one of the weaker forward subs in the league. Compare to say LAFC last season with forwards like Diamonde and Brian Rodriguez coming off the bench. Or Atlanta bringing in Villalba regularly in second half (he was more of an attacking mid but he was a dangerous goal scorer). Our other option is playing players out of position with say Pavon playing cf. I think that will lead to a lot of other problems. On wingers we are in decent shape I think. Obviously left wing is covered with Pavon. Based on his resume Katai will probably be decent at right wing. And Lletget and a hopefully improved Alvarez will be able to play that spot as well. I see our needs in order (starting from assumption we have Zambrano but not yet Chicharito): 1. Primary striker (hopefully Chicharito) 2. Second striker, journeyman level. 3. High quality cb to pair with Zambrano. 4. High quality right back. Feltscher is a goal sieve and Araujo is still developing. 5. Defensive mid capable of working with JDS. Ideally would be a work horse and/or disrupter in the mold of Sarvas, McCarty, Larentowicz or even Dema. 6. Goalkeeper upgrade. While goal #2 isn't sexy, it's pretty important. We got lucky last season with Ibra staying healthy almost entire season and can't count on that happening again next season. My expectation is we will get #1 done. If we accomplish none of the others I will be disappointed. If we get 3 of the above goals accomplished I will be happy, 4 or more and I will be thrilled. edit: I guess Zambrano is still very iffy. If that is the case then add getting another quality cb as our 2nd need on the list.
I don't think that's accurate; Boca played good team defense under GBS. But you can't really implement team defense with Zlatan as your #9. Last year, we didn't really have a defensive scheme that I could figure out, which is why I think we just attacked all the time. So for me, having a striker that will play defense (and Hernandez does) is already going to improve defense a lot.
Feltscher is NOT good enough - he was one of the reasons we gave up 59 goals in 34 games. Agree with you that Araujo is likely a better defender.
