It seems as though we often have a dedicated preseason thread. So here goes. Let me take a moment, though, to say how much better our friend @chr1st is at this kind of thing. We miss you. You're in our thoughts. And we hope, at some point when and if the time feels right, to see you in here again. So, the 2020 preseason... As someone who was looking forward to a good, old fashioned off season after what we endured in 2017 and 2018, thank goodness it's almost over. It's been interminable. Some dates: (or look here, https://www.columbuscrewsc.com/post/2019/12/20/columbus-crew-sc-announces-2020-preseason-schedule) Jan 18-19: Players report for physicals and testing in Columbus Jan. 20-29: Training camp in Chula Vista, CA Jan. 29-Feb. 6: Training camp in Cancun, Mexico Feb. 7-9: Players off Feb. 10-23: Training camp in Tucson, AZ Feb. 15-22: Crew take part in the 2020 Visit Tucson Sun Cup https://www.fctucson.com/2020suncup https://www.phxrisingfc.com/news_article/show/1076028 The tournament, co-hosted by Phoenix Rising FC (USL-C) and FC Tucson (USL-1; they're actually owned by Phoenix Rising) looks to be far more substantive than the now-defunct Charleston tournament. Here's the overall schedule (these are all AZ times): Saturday, February 15, 2020 Real Salt Lake vs Sporting KC @ 4:00 PM Kino North Stadium (Tucson, Ariz.) Saturday, February 15, 2020 New York Red Bulls vs Houston Dynamo @ 6:30 PM Kino North Stadium (Tucson, Ariz.) Saturday, February 15, 2020 Columbus Crew SC vs Phoenix Rising FC @ 7:00 PM Casino Arizona Field (Scottsdale, Ariz.) Wednesday, February 19, 2020 Houston Dynamo vs Real Salt Lake @ 4:00 PM Kino North Stadium (Tucson, Ariz.) Wednesday, February 19, 2020 New York Red Bulls vs Columbus Crew SC @ 6:30 PM Kino North Stadium (Tucson, Ariz.) Wednesday, February 19, 2020 Phoenix Rising FC vs Sporting KC @ 7:00 PM Casino Arizona Field (Scottsdale, Ariz.) Saturday, February 22, 2020 New York Red Bulls vs Sporting KC @ 2:00 PM Kino North Stadium (Tucson, Ariz.) Saturday, February 22, 2020 Houston Dynamo vs Columbus Crew SC @ 5:00 PM Kino North Stadium (Tucson, Ariz.) Saturday, February 22, 2020 Phoenix Rising FC vs Real Salt Lake @ 7:00 PM Casino Arizona Field (Scottsdale, Ariz.) So we'll play host Phoenix, NYRB and Houston. No info yet on television or streaming options. After that, it's home to prep for our home opener, March 1 vs. NYCFC.
No clue. If he's in Scotland, there appear to be no nonstop flights from Glasgow to the US (must be summer seasonal only). Especially if he's routing through London, then, could be connecting through lots of places: JFK, Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Philly, DC. Hopefully, the club will give fans a heads up.
You're right, though not on the 16th. I was thinking Glasgow, since he's from Motherwell, which is much closer to Glasgow than Edinburgh. There is one nonstop flight from Edinburgh to the eastern US on Thursday; to Newark on United, connecting flight arrives CMH at 3:54pm (UA 3463). So if Cadden is in a Scotland right now, and is wanting a one-stop connection to Columbus that departs out of Scotland, that would be it.
It's only about 35 miles from Motherwell to Edinburgh. I have actually taken a train ride from Edinburgh to Fir Park, for an Aberdeen vs. Motherwell match.
Right. The only fans the club gives a shit about are the Nordecke crowd. Everybody else is just a wallet to be tapped once in a while.
I remember some variation of a quote from the great Jim Smith about how Crew did not need the supporters of sections like 137. Now these similar people seem to be considered the bread and the butter. Highlighted across social media and in the marketing. Catered to. Still hits me the 180 in thinking.
I just saw that Zelerayan came in from I-don't-know-where on the Haslam's private jet. It'll be interesting to see if Cadden gets the same treatment. If so, then the Edinburgh flight to EWR followed by a hop to Signature Flight Support would put him in around 5:30maybe?
I've read that this was the Haslam's plane, but Massive Report says that it belongs to the Edwards family. Does everybody have a goddam Gulfstream now except me? Seems unfair. Vote for Bernie.
Could also be a NetJets type situation. If I recall the timing was similar to when the Browns were courting/hiring/announcing their current future ex-Coach. Also is it possible Dr. Pete got off the plane first and just stood there for the photo op? (I don't really care, I'm just avoiding work for a few mintues).
I would not be surprised if the Edwards family has a NetJets membership. I would be very surprised if the Haslams do not own their own jet.
Now don't go stirring up trouble. I saw Lucas getting off the plane and the first thing he did was hug Porter. There's a picture of the hug somewhere.
Actually, I have a family member who just sold a plane. Was expensive to maintain. Still, he had it for 10-15 years. Ex-military guy. Learned to fly in it. Would fly into Don Scott with it when he came to visit us. Cannot remember what he got for it. Not a huge amount. Less than 100k. Maybe 50-ish.
