I tried googling for info about the super draft and was shocked to find so little information about it - like the specific date for the draft. What I did find was:
    • word was (didn't see anything official) there would be no combine anymore; teams would cover the college cup, maybe there would be some kind of league-wide player evaluation there, teams could invite prospects in for training/workouts like other US sports leagues do
    • league was exploring some kind of convention type thing for teams, like the 'winter baseball meetings' to get more media attention and give teams the forum for working on deals.
    • Draft would be held in conjunction with the United Soccer Coach's Convention, Jan. 15-19th (as usual), held in Baltimore this year
    • Draft would be done by conference call, no live media-event (again, didn't find any official announcement or release)
After various trades, the Revs currently have 2 first-rounders (#6, #13) and 2 second round picks. Third and fourth round picks were traded away.

From Topdrawer - "This year, instead of the traditional MLS Combine, the league has decided to host a player showcase game in conjunction with the College Cup.
Another tweak to the format is players can play while also retaining eligibility; no Generation adidas offers have been extended or signed, allowing underclassmen to compete in the game and then decide to return to school if an offer doesn't materialize.
The Athletic's Sam Stejskal tweeted out the roster for this year's showcase, which obviously excludes players from Wake Forest, Georgetown, Virginia and Stanford."

Draftopia Mock draft has the Revs taking these two players in the first round. 2nd pick they show the Revs taking Tanner Beason a 6'1 defender from Stanford but they talk about Henry Kessler so not sure who they really think the Revs will take. Reading their picks they did that on several choices so they are all over the place. I have to agree on there thinking though but I feel the Revs will go heavy on defenders and will take two with their first 4 picks
    1. New England Revoultion: Milan Iloski, F, UCLA

New England gets a the best player on their board rather than drafting for need at 6. The 5-10 155 lb Milan Iloski can play striker, secondary striker, left wing, or right wing with his versatility. Iloski has 17 goals, 2 assists, and 36 points in 2019. He reminds me a lot of a former Revolution draft pick out of UCLA named Kelyan Rowe so New England drafts Iloski at 6.
      1. New England Revoultion: Tanner Beason, D, Stanford

New England gets the best player on their board at 13. The 6-4 185 lb Henry Kessler has helped Virginia record 14 shutouts so far in 2019.

Does anyone "draft for need" in 2019? Would teams not always take the best available player, given the low likelihood of any draftee making the team?

I very much agree with you, but does it make a difference now that we have a Revs 2 option?

Interesting. We could "build" Revs 2 with 3 strong "position of needs". (A Striker, a CD/M, CB who can use both feet for example).

As I see people talking about drafting for need or want ... I go back to the arguments we used to have here, and just laugh. Starting late 200X quite a few of us kept saying that we should be using the draft as a filler, and sign players in the January window first. Quite a few others kept arguing.

    Ah ... good times.

Mostly yes, but seeing how the Revs have a glut of HG midfielders, I'd say that position is probably not a priority.

I would say at this point, anyone who's not drafting the Best Player Available is probably doing it wrong.

Looks like MLS will sign Virginia striker Darryl Dike to a Generation Adidas deal.

Will probably be gone by the time the Revs make their first pick, but it should push another good player down to us.

Am I right to think that we have an international spot to use on a draft pick, if needed?

    I don't think so...

    1. Carles Gil
    2. Gustavo Bou
    3. Adam Buksa
    4. Luis Caicedo
    5. Wilfred Zahibo
    6. Alex Buttner
    7. Cristian Penilla
    8. Samba Camara
    9. Michael Mancienne

There's a rumor that Mancienne might be close to getting his Green Card, but that would still only bring them to eight, which is the limit.

Just for argument’s sake, could we sign him and then bury him in Revs 2 as a long term project?

Technically, I suppose they could. If he signs directly with Revs2, the senior club can only hold his rights for 2 years without signing him:

    https://www.mlssoccer.com/league/official-rules/mls-roster-rules-and-regulations
If the senior club signs him, then sends him on long term loan to Revs2, I believe that frees up the international slot (but not the salary budget).
