Expecting to see our starters take a rest. Pretty meaningless game except for building up our 2nd unit with valuable minutes.
Also a bit meaningful in the sense that we could help eliminate a strong contender in the CL. There was a similar situation last season, and the team Barca failed to put away in MD6 ended up reaching the final.
Messi rested (and not traveling), same with healthy Pique and Roberto. Still not medically cleared though back in training are Alba and Semedo. Also injured Arthur (no return date) and Dembele (February return). So all that said, 20 man squad named, and hopefully we see lots more rotation (such as resting MAtS, Lenglet, Busquets, Suarez as well). Nice to see Fati returned to health, and Puig, Araujo, Morer, Perez, and Pena all traveling. We go through in first no matter what, however Inter and BVB are tied on points, but Inter up 3 on goal difference (and they each beat the other at home), so I guess I feel bad for BVB if we field a non-competitive team, but BVB knew that was a risk if we beat them at home.... Is Inter more dangerous contender for CL than BVB? Maybe a tiny bit more, but no reason we need to kill them off now by not resting and rotating. If we see either Inter or BVB again it will be in quarterfinals at earliest and either one we'd be happy to see again. Neto Wague-Todibo-Umtiti-Firpo Alena-FDJ-Vidal Perez-Griezmann-Fati That would rest just about all starters save for de Jong and Griezmann, so sub them off with two or three of Puig, Sergio, Ivan, or Luis also playing 30-45 minutes. Also a possible 4-4-2 in the 2nd half.
And just to add, the tiebreaker is head-to-head, including aggregate goal difference. Inter wins that 4-3, so whether BVB wins 10-0 or 1-nil tomorrow they will lose the tiebreaker. So they need to win more points tomorrow.
Thanks, I saw the scores of their respective wins, but did not know if that would come into play, or if overall Goal Differential would, since they each got a win. So Inter just needs to match whatever BVB does, but needs to at least assume BVB wins at home. I guess leaving Messi at home must really piss off BVB supporters.
What's interesting is that the shoe was on the other foot last year, we played Spurs in Match 6, already qualified, played about half our starters but still managed a draw. Had Inter won over PSV they'd have reached the elimination stage, but they lost, so Spurs went through and all the way to the final. Just read that for a draw today we get 900,000 Euros, for a win we get 2,700,000 Euros. Playing well without Messi and Pique and MAtS is priceless and builds the Barca confidence (not to mention the brand value).
Official: Neto Umtiti-Lenglet Wague-Todibo-Junior Alena-Rakitic-Vidal Perez-Griezmann Not really sure of lineup with 5 defenders, but Todibo can play DM so that's how I showed it in the weird 2-3-3-2, could be a 4-4-2 also with Todibo and Raki doing a double pivot. Or 4-3-3 with Vidal or Alena as a forward but I cannot really see that.
Perez scores against the run of play, beautifully timed runs by him and Vidal (and great pass to Vidal from Griezmann). Vidal first timed that pass to Perez who first time shot it with his left foot. Perez drew a save from the keeper earlier, otherwise Inter has been more threatening. Perez dependencia?
I won't mention any scores outside of our group, but will mention that BVB are up 1-0 over Slavia; so as things stand BVB would advance in 2nd place from our group. Inter need only to match or top BVB's result today to advance but that's not the case at the moment.
Damn, score levelled as Lukaku's blast deflects off a Barca defender leaving Neto no chance. I think the deflection was off Vidal, no fault of his, just trying to block the shot.
Man, I don't believe in jinxes, but both games were equalized shortly after I posted that. So I apologize to those who do believe in jinxes. Both games 1-1 now so Inter is back "in" as things stand at half time.
Oh oh ... Inter have to attack. That last miss might hurt. Suarez coming in for Griezmann. Would have liked to see Griezmann play the whole game.
Julian Weigl gets two yellows in the 2nd half and now BVB must maintain their 2-1 lead with only 10 men for the last 13 minutes.
