"We'll see. He's got an ability to run behind the line and to be sharp in central areas, which will naturally get him more goals, but I'm not going to say right now that's the solution. We'll see going forward." Actually, it's not that terrible of an idea. He's been in great forms, can run behind the defense, always in the right positions to be dangerous. He's a menace in the box. If Tammy is still injured by Wed, this is a very real possibility. Giroud just got his last chance, Bats haven't shown much in his last few appearances. Who else is there to play forward? He doesn't have to play as a target #9. Imagine a front 3 of Mount, Pulisic, and Odoi interchanging. That can cause havoc for opposing defenses.
“Actually ...” I disagree. Unless they plan to go over the top and chase down balls, maybe. I don’t see others creating much for him in the build up game.
Once upon a time Barcelona had great success using Messi as a False 9.,,, Of course, maybe they had much better supporting cast at the time (Messi was pretty good too). With Pulisic as a False 9, is CHO currently a better option than Willian or Mount on the wings ?
I think people underestimate Willian around here. CHO and Mount have a long way to go to be as useful as the Brazilian in what we call "transition."
I guess you didn't have, or hear of, Esse Eeeee Ennaayy. I watched WC's, WC qualifiers, Euro's, and the European Champions Cup (old name of Champions League) on SIN in the eighties. Tony Tirado anyone?
I'd love to see him nominated for Young Player of the Year. If he keeps performing, he probably stands a great shot alongside one or two of his clubmates as well as that kid at Newcastle.
Weird coincidence that his stat map thing looks so much like Raheem Sterling’s. Of course someone will explain why it’s not.
Somewhere in this thread I said that Sterling would be a good one to base his success off of in terms of age and production.
Agreed. It’s an ideal alternative formation to give Chelsea a more compact 4-4-2 with Abraham and Pulisic better able to exploit their speed on the counter attack. Smart if they go that route as they have struggled with their openness against some of the top top tier clubs, Ajax, Man City, especially underperforming ManU.
Wake up guys, we've got a game to play today. Happily, all lineups lead to Pulisic. https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation...pulisic-to-lead-the-line-james-to-start-again Based on Chelsea fans' voting: "Olivier Giroud (5%) didn’t fare much better either, while the question marks over Tammy Abraham’s injury see him restricted to just 37%. But as Michy Batshuayi once gain fails to even crack 50%, it’s Christian Pulisic who gets the start at the top, just as Lampard has hinted. 4-2-3-1 (56%) Arrizabalaga (97%) | Azpilicueta (80%), Tomori (88%), Zouma (79%), James (77%) | Jorginho (72%), Kanté (94%) | Mount (63%), Kovačić (71%), Willian (64%) | Pulisic (88%)" More likely, per the author: "I basically went with the same lineup as the community with the sole exception of believing in a Tammy Abraham return for this game, with Mateo Kovačić giving way. For me, this is currently our strongest lineup. 4-2-3-1 Arrizabalaga | Azpilicueta, Tomori, Zouma, James | Jorginho, Kanté | Willian, Mount, Pulisic | Abraham"
And within a Chelsea striker analysis ... "But that line of thinking is not backed up by Lampard’s substitutions, which eventually moved Christian Pulisic into the center forward position. Pulisic may be pretty good in the air for a speedy and light winger, but he’s never going to be confused for a striker. Still, that experiment, which had its genesis back at Borussia Dortmund, may yet continue in the near future." https://weaintgotnohistory.sbnation...again-if-abraham-misses-more-time-for-chelsea
So this is on NBC Gold again :-| Interestingly, it appears that the streaming deal for these matches in UK run through Amazon Prime. That's of course location restricted, but I just tried using a VPN connecting through a UK IP, and it appears to be available when I sign on to Prime that way... I'll keep you posted.
That isn't NBCSN. The matches on TV today are Manchester United v. Tottenham followed by the remainder of Liverpool v. Everton. You've gotta pay to see Chelsea live.
Glad to see Tammy back in and CP at left-wing where he belongs. This might be the best lineup they have right now. 4-2-3-1: James - Christensen - Zouma - Azpilicueta Kante - Kovacic Willian - Mount - Pulisic Tammy
