They were first awarded with a ceremony this year. The Serie A 18/19 was the first one. :ROFLMAO:

They had the grand gala of football in Italy but this new format just began. No excuse to plan it on the same day as the Balon d'Or.

Real Madrid is my passion. However, you're gonna sit there and tell me Real Madrid is not also an institution? A business as you say? Of course it is! Just like any other sports club in the world.

At the end of the day... Real Madrid doesn't pay you, they don't really "care" about you.Whether you want to put your effort or energy in cheering for a team, is all on you. I fell in love with this team at a very young age and now that I'm much older, I don't see myself stopping.

If you think Cristiano meant to say that Real Madrid is only a business to him and he didn't feel anything towards the culture surrounding Madrid, you'd be a fool.

    Here, for a refresher:

"I've always dreamed to win the Champions League with Real Madrid... and we are only one step away from doing it"

    We can agree to disagree.

If Ronaldo loved real Madrid as much as his fans claim he does he would still be playing for Real Madrid. End of discussion.

I was confused as well because they had already done awards earlier in mid season I think. But this "grand gala" has taken place in previous years at the end of the season. It's not new. Although before last season it seems like it didn't coincide with Balon d'Or.

More importantly we had a moron here who claimed Lebron James is the most clutch player of all time & carries teams by himself. That is the most offensive thing I’ve ever read on BS.

Lebron james never has been and never will be anywhere close to a Michael Jordan.

Uh oh, another real fan fake fan convo ?

Seeing them all in person is not unique, successful maybe, greatest, well that’s just your opinion , which of course you are entitled to have, others may have different parameters with which to determine greatness, so maybe you shouldn’t use “we” there.

Meh. There are players that have 0 affiliation with the club, yet are still here. That's like saying if Raul loved Real Madrid, he would have retired there. Or or or all the club legends that left for whatever circumstance.

People mock Messi for not showing up at Anfield, Roma etc when Barca were knocked out. Difference is that when Ronaldo had an off night like semis against Bayern and final against Liverpool, his RM teammates stepped up. Benz scored 3 in semis and final, Marcelo scored a Golazo at Bayern when we were down, Asensio got the winner. Bale scored the brace in final etc.

Ronaldo was brilliant against PSG and Juve, but RM had so much success in CL because we were a complete team. Where as Messi was absolutely amazing at home against Liverpool, but when he has an off night, Suarez and co are even worse. Either Modric or Ronaldo winning BDR last season would have been well deserved for me. Modric won World Cup Golden Ball.

No one expected Croatia to reach the finals. Maybe they didn't have the toughest road to the finals, but Portugal were pretty pathetic in Group stages when they won Euros and qualified as 3rd place team. That didn't affect Ronaldo's chances. Modric wouldn't have won if he had gone to Inter for sure. It's a popularity contest to a large extent. Inter or even Juve doesn't have that much visibility with regards to voters. Inter won a treble and Sneijder reached WC final too still Messi beat him rather easily to individual awards.

I don’t know, I think there’s a slight difference there though, in terms of club legends, I’m not sure why Ronaldo left, money?, I think for sure if he wanted to stay here he could have and still be starting, so he left for whatever reason,

as far as I know Raul left because he had to if he wanted to play really, in short his best playing days were behind him and everyone could see that, we literally had to push most of these players out, I’m not so sure we pushed Ronaldo out, I think he wanted to leave, but, just a thought.

    Why did Casillas leave?
    Why did Pepe leave?
Are we also saying they don't love the club?

He's the reason they got so many Liga titles last year and we only got two despite having Ronaldo.

On a consistent run of 38 games Messi is just too good. As said he can have a off day here and there, but they are always in the race for the title. Even in their worst seasons they finish just a few points behind us (maybe 1 exception). Thats why they choke in the CL, they too dependent on him. When he has an off day (or 2) there, they are kicked out. Cuz the rest is just not good enough. Suarez doesn't even know how to score away from Camp Nou, Dembele always injured, Griezmann is a walking L. When they had Neymar it was a different story of course.

People are getting "love playing for Real Madrid" and "loves Real Madrid" confused. Only a handful of players love Real Madrid, but all of them love playing for Real Madrid.

Bringing up a player that left because he was basically boohed out the stadium and another one that left because he wasn't getting the money we were paying him in one sentence is pretty weird but whatever.

Since Iker left, he's been following the club, commentating on what's going on and interacting with the guys from the squad on social media. Despite being boohed at his farewell match.

Not sure if Pepe has ever really cared about Real Madrid since he left.

Hence the difference: Loving Real Madrid vs loving to play for Real Madrid.

That PSG away comeback had Neymar's finger prints all over it. That's why Barca want that old thing back. The last CL final they won, Neymar was absolutely excellent in it.

They spent almost twice as much to replace him in 3 different players (Coutinho, Dembele, Griezmann) but none of them has proved good enough. Those are some big shoes to fill. Imagine replacing Messi.

Messi never shows up when it counts for Argentina & hasn’t showed for Barca in the CL when it counts for years now. He didn’t score against in la Liga for almost 4 years. These are the cold hard fax. Deal with it you nerds.

Portugal won their only trophy with Ronaldo off the pitch: That happens and the Ronaldo fans won't stop quoting that until the end of time.

At the end of the day who cares. Both of them are approaching the finish line, one of them sooner than the other.

I dont think anyone can seriously claim Ronaldo has had a better year than Messi. Van Dijk was phenomenal and consistent in 2019 and even then I would still give it to Messi.

Ronaldo was on the pitch for the final he got injured. He was the main reason Portugal even got to the final.

Comparing Ronaldo & Messi international career is laughable. One is a hero for his country & the other is seen as a failure. Fax is fax.

    That wasn't a huge risk.

In fact it was an attempt at an astute move knowing he was physically slowing down and needing to find a club which could still win CL in a league he felt he could still dominate.

Cristiano was arrogant thinking he could leave Madrid and still win the balon. I'm sure he expected he would win, then coukd put juve over the hump and win a CL to cement his legacy.

Instead he has slowed down and he missed out on breaking the balon record himself.

It's better he sees Madrid as a business and remain professional, then see it as a joke and use the club as an all-expenses-paid vacation getaway.

Damn, that must mean that Casillas left and gave up the last two years of his contract without getting any of his money back, because you know, his love for the club is so uncondtional. Right?

Porto are also going to pay his contract in full despite not having to do so.

Both Raul, and Iker turned down Chelsea when Abramovic took over. Ronaldo actively reached out to Juve in December so he can leave the club. That's out of his own mouth.
