I don’t think I have seen a single game of his sides how do they set up? I would love to see big sol work his way up, he’s having to get his hands too dirty in the shit leagues considering he was world class not shocked though, he is black after all
True, and it should be. I mean, you shouldn’t be considering Arteta, Poch, Allegri, AND Rodgers. They have very different playing styles and philosophies. Means that those in charge have no clue what they’re doing. I, for one, would rather hope that Tuchel leaves PSG this summer.
Iwobi's best position may actually be ACM so unless they really needed the cash from his sale, I think Ceballos was the redundant addition. In addition, even if Pepe doesn't kick on, he's well on his way to exceeding the 5 goals and 8 assists Iwobi provided. in all competitions last season.
Iwobi is a very good pressing winger who is extremely effective on the left, especially in the left half space.
Listening to the Statsbomb podcast, a few notes: 1. Arsenal interviewed Allegri in 2018. Went really badly - Allegri spoke no English, came across as extremely arrogant, and wanted a huge staff. Also, Allegri was going to cost a fortune. 2. Arsenal unlikely to get Rodgers given the buyout and Leicester will likely be in the Champions League. They think highly of the way Leicester have built their squad, even if their results exceed their performance. 3. Arteta. The people that didn't want Arteta are allegedly still at Arsenal - it's tougher to hire Arteta now because there's more pressure at Arsenal. 4. Ljungberg. No need to give him a long-term contract, because where's he going to go? 5. Pochettino. Summertime only signing - Arsenal aren't going to pay what Levy would want (allegedly a buyout if he takes a job over the summer, and Levy won't negotiate with Arsenal). James was skeptical that Pochettino crosses the North London divide. Unlikely. Others: Nuno - boring, not sure he knows how to attack. Eddie Howe - doesn't know how to coach a defense, not clear he'd want to give up his control at Bournemouth. Rafa - meh Vieira - can't coach a buildup from what they've seen at Nice Ancellotti - his time is past Ted's picks, in increasing order: 3. Marcelino, if you want to play a more defensive style. Available. 2. Roger Schmidt (who I've liked for a long time). May only want to come in during the summer. Times at Leverkusen and Salzburg were really good. Has evolved stylistically. If Tuchel was available, he'd be available. 1. Marco Rose - Gladbach is the most exciting management team in the world right now, but Arsenal may be a step down from Gladbach right now. Rose has the upside of bringing Rene Maric here as well . One thing to note: one of the considerations with recruiting a manager is that people expect the United job to be open in the summer. Ted said that the Gladbach guys were at the top of their list for a customer in February (that suggests that Chelsea or United hired Statsbomb for a manager search?).
I think the answer depends on who we are serious about. Poch will be in high demand so now or never IMO. So suggests never. Too expensive. Rogers - too expensive right now. So suggests wait until the hype dies down. Arteta - can wait and see on Freddie Schmidt - IMO wait and see on Freddie but potentially move soon Marco Rose - you won't get this guy right now as he is top of BL1. Same reason you won't get Nagelsmann. Overall it is a bad situation because we can't pay to prise anyone loose.
Idk about Rose being in the same situation as Nagelsmann. Nagelsmann said no to Bayern and Real Madrid to build his own project at Leipzig and was a lame duck for a year to do that. Just took a look at Gladbach's transfer history - they basically break even most seasons. Maybe Rose and Maric turn down Arsenal, but it's not such a foregone conclusion they turn Arsenal down that you don't even try.
Nagelsmann is clever. RB is one of he most progressive clubs to be at, and he will continue to build his legend there. The guy is potentially Bayern trainer in waiting, but he is not so stupid as to rush over there, You won't get these guys right now. They know they are hot, but unless you throw silly money, they are not going to leave Borussia while they are top of BL1. They are making their careers right now. And I say this as a guy who has rated Maric for ages. I would love for us to get him.
They won’t be moving till the summer anyway, so let’s see what happens in the Ruckrunde. I think manager/first team coach is one of those areas you overpay because you can generate above market returns, and Arsenal is a high profile enough job that a good manager won't get poached. My point, however, is that it's silly to not even try to get them. You're guaranteed to miss the shots you don't take, and Arsenal do have a decent squad (albeit mismatched parts) and the money to go out and buy players. If you wait, these guys will end up in Madrid or Manchester (assuming Poch goes to Bayern).
How often do you guys watch bundesliga to know how good these guys are? I guess jitty lives in Germany but that league is weird to judge. I remember Wolfsburg winni g the league a few years ago from nowhere, it seems like Bayern get bored after winning 6 on the trot we aren’t a huge club these days so we may have to think outside the box or take what is available waiting till the summer is suicide imo
I mean sure, we should be talking to Rose/Nagelsmann but do you really think there's any chance either of them would leave within the first six months of being at a new club AND with Rose's club being top of BL? As for Poch sure, I think he's probably the best option, but as we've discussed, it involves eating a lot of gardening leave that Levy is unlikely to be friendly about negotiating with us The more this plays out the less I like the options we have available to us. Not super encouraged by Freddie's debut (but obviously willing to be patient) but the more pressing concern is that Freddie has no backroom staff to work with at all. We can't realistically have Per training the first teamers for the rest of the year, nor should we really just want a backroom of ex-arsenal players who have very little coaching experience.
Bundesliga is on Fox here, so a lot of times I'll watch the 7:30 AM kickoff in the PL, followed by the 9:30 kickoff in the Bundesliga. I watched some Leverkusen when Schmidt was there with this approach - they were a lot of fun to watch, though more than a little bit insane. Quoting bear and Llama So, I disagree with this approach. Strongly. It's more important to get the right hire than it is to get a hire right now. We aren't going to make top four this season. Thus, the only reason to make a hire right now is if we think that manager will help us win the Europa League. But cup competitions involve an element of randomness that you can't plan for. So any hire shouldn't be about "right now". It's worth waiting until the summer unless we're sure we aren't going to get the candidates we want in the summer.
Yeah I agree with you, I think our options will be better next summer, especially if ManU go with Poch and Bayern take somebody soon.
Well here’s hoping we don’t get relegated with Freddie at the helm for a season it’s mad that football is like the 10th most popular sport there are u get more ways to view it than I do or can afford to do change is badly needed here for me to watch as much as possible via tv would be over 100 a month
That was actually a decade ago, back when Bayern were not very dominant. Stuttgart and BvB also won titles in that period. Bayern's crazy dominance started with the treble under Heynckes but they have been under pressure the last year and a half. BvB really blew a great opportunity last season.
Some see Nagelsmann as Bayern trainer in waiting. Personally I think he will do more than one season at Leipzig. It is one of the big jobs in german football now, and I think he will focus on that.
Of all the guys mentioned, Roger Schmidt is one of the ones you could actually get who would be very progressive. I guess that would depend on where Edu wants to take the team stylistically. As @mebeSajid correctly points out, Schmidt had quite an extreme style and might not be right for us. Maric is absolutely the kind of talent we should be looking to get at the club, but then so is arteta and arteta is probably more realistic to get.
