I swear - at first glance, I thought these were police who'd been called to a game.

The female referee shown should take her earrings out.

I am seeing more and more referees, male and female, wearing earrings while on the field.

I self assigned myself some (5) games for this Saturday in the Division-II Fall Championships (teams that don't qualify for President's Cup) figuring I'd have a relatively relaxing day of shortened soccer games. I was just officially assigned the games so I looked at the rules of the tournament, "District Tournaments with only one bracket of four (4) or few teams shall play all games of regulation length." So it would appear that my 1-U17 and 2-U16 games are full length. And because life hates me, the last game of the day is U-17, full length, between two teams who will be playing their first game of the day, *sigh*. At least I know where they want to play the ball before they do so I can get there first. It makes me look fast without having to be fast.

Wait... self-assign? Please tell us more. You self-assigned yourself high-level age brackets?

I've seen many a referees still have their wedding ring on...

Well, this is my crappy story of the week.

I have been putting together an effort to get PINK ref shirts. I contacted a vendor who was willing to work with me and told me that they would give me a price of $25 for an Elite $40 shirt if I could get 150 buyers. My plan was to offer an optional Cancer charity donation component along with the purchase and make the donation in the name of a local soccer mom who recently passed from Cancer.

I contacted hundreds of refs in my area, just to see if there was interest. So far, I had about 60 refs signed up. Even my HS assignor was on board with it.

Then I get the word from USSF that Pink is not one of the sanctioned colors. And that all assignors (me included) are supposed to enforce this. So sorry, maybe Fall 2020, this will change.

I was hoping to do something different and cool. No profit to me. Good of the game, Charitable action and possibly even referee retention (lots of kids signing up). Nope :(

I would never ask someone to take off their wedding ring. I don't even make adult players do that.

These games are not 'high-level'. The ages are but any of these teams would probably be taken to the cleaners by a U-13 DA team. The players probably have never met a grade 7 referee, let alone a grade 6. The games are so low and far away (hour drive) that I'm not sure the assignor would have put me on the games. Case-in-point, I didn't request games on Sunday and haven't been assigned games on Sunday. EDIT: Although there are some Division III girls games without referees that are 10 minutes from my house that I might volunteer for.
And technically, it isn't 'self-assign' even though that is what Game Officials calls it. I request the game(s) and the assignor can choose to put me in the game or not. I started reffing non-rec soccer in 2010. It has taken some years, but I think I've earned the seniority and privileges.

I bought a Score pink shirt from the referee store. OSI 3XL fits me fine. But the Score 3XL barely comes down to my belly button. In times where I'm doing U9 and U10 solo girls, I would have no problem wearing a pink jersey. As long as my belly button doesn't show. Does anyone else besides Score have pink referee jerseys?

I can recall several select-level USYSA sanctioned tournaments in past Octobers in which many of the USSF referee crews wore the pink jerseys. Granted, they weren't DA or other high-profile events, just typical travel team tourneys. I suspect they employed: Don't ask, Don't tell.

My vote is to make the bright pink an official color and drop black, red, and either blue or green. Three colors is plenty. (Yeah, I know, no on cares a whit about my vote.) So far as I can tell, we're the only place in the world that thinks it makes sense to have 5 official colors. Making it 6 would be even more insane.

refereestore.com used to be a Score reseller before getting their current in-house brand.

That is the vendor I am working with. I don't think it is a Score shirt. The logo is an emblem with a whistle in it. They sent me a sample and it seems pretty normal. It was an adult medium and it is just a bit tight on my 5'9" 180 bod. But I normally get large.

I have a pink ref jersey in the old thick pinstripe style. I used to wear it on low level solo AYSO girls games.

Made my debut back from surgery. Solo on a U12 and line on a U13. The line was no fun. It was hard to get going from a standing position and it took a lot longer to stop the run and change direction. But I made it back so I’m counting my blessings.

Good to hear you're working back into it. When I had my knee done recently, surgeon said recovery is 2-12+ weeks... the part he omitted was that two weeks was for the 15-18 yr olds, 12+ or more were for us 50+ ones... Took me months to be okay after 6-8 miles on a good treadmill.

When my knee was scoped, years ago, I was, of course, sentenced to physical therapy. One of the things I had to do was, wearing a harness connected to a stationary anchor, walk away from the anchor. About my fourth or fifth visit, the cord broke. Apparently, this was the subject of some discussion among the PT's during the week before my next visit. My rep was established. "He broke the sport cord!" "Wow." I didn't think I was putting THAT much stress on it.

My uncle (was a NISOA national ref, Ohio North State ref, had his first heart attack running the Texas South state fitness test) was fired from PT after his triple/quadruple, I can't remember, bypass. He would start out at a 5 mph jog. Once the sensors would go wonky due to sweat he would slowly increase the speed through the half an hour until he would finish the last 30 seconds with an all out sprint. After his second session the doctor said, "If we keep letting you come back here, your insurance company is going to sue us for malpractice."
