They had one of the best logos in MLS, I don't understand why they wanted to change it (outside of greed for new merchandise sales and/or the president of the club's daughter maybe owning a graphic art company).
Most infuriating is for no reason at all they added a ********ing FC (pronounced phonetically) - the dumbest ********ing move ever. I just don't get why everyone wants that asinine thing at the end of their names here lately.

edit: the ridiculousness of the word-salad that is the reasoning behind the new badge makes me want to throw up a little

“The mirrored icon – with flames inverted to become a crown, hence the Fire Crown – tells the story of a dramatic rebirth and a city’s triumph,” explained a club release, while “the change from ‘soccer’ to ‘football’ reflects a long-term vision for the club as Chicago’s global ambassador to the world’s game.”

another edit: heeheeheehee, tweeted out by the Kickers

The "FC" is just dumb. The Bears are Chicago's football club.

I also don't understand why a team would name themselves after a city's worst tragedy, like the SJ Earthquakes, the NY Jets, or the Utah Jazz.

FWIW, the Jazz originally was the New Orleans Jazz back when Christ was a midshipman (remember Pete Maravich?). They were moved to Utah and the clueless ********s who owned the team were too stupid/cheap to rebrand. The Jets were the Titans, but the previous owner kept bouncing checks to players so there was a rebrand. Jets is dumb and generic and long predates 9/11. I lived in the Bay Area when the Quakes were an NASL franchise. It's a bit tongue in cheek because folks from outside California always mention the possibility of earthquakes to any California native as something scary. Growing up, the ground shaking was just part of life and NBD.

Of course the Earthquakes were originally the Clash. I have no idea what album it was a reference to.

If you go on the san josey forum, according to them the Earthquakes are the joke.

Strangely, the name change irritates me more than the logo change. They actually had SC in their name as it should be in ML.

I did not account for code tags converting a bracketed letter into nothing after I tried to emphasize the "S" in MLS.

I find it entertaining that Inter Miami is building a roof over their entire seating areas ... in their temporary stadium in Ft Lauderdale while we only built half a roof over two-thirds of our stadium.

I don't think the temporary stands behind goals are going to have canopies much like eaglebank field. Of course the canopies over the other stands are actually going to cover the stands.

To be fair, it does rain every day in Ft Lauderdale.

I looked at the pic on their Twitter, its tough to tell, but you're right, the cheap seats will be out in the warm rain.

Given the problems Miami has had in finding a "permanent" location I would bet money the "temporary" digs at the new Lockhart Stadium will become permanent.

Well, they are building their "temporary" stadium with field boxes and a roof for at least the sideline stands. Its does look a bit spartan, but it's going up damn quick. Metal bleacher framing, but it's their "temporary" home. I guess this is what you can do with some real money and a desire to get shit done. That said, with how this has all been dragging out and is now playing out, Inter Ft Lauderdale is still making a good show of it.

Their younger signings look really promising and their veteran signings seem quite shrewd. I am sure Robles will find a way to stick it to us at some point this year.

    Nope.
Once Miami gets their permanent stadium done New York Yankees FC can move in.

And why the hell is Miami playing their home opener on 3/14 against another warm-weather team? Why?

Well run, thrifty, small market, KC just dropped high 8 figures on Alan Puldino.

Discuss, because my knee jerk is gloom and doom.

It's a perplexing move for KC. On the one hand, their offense was pretty good last year. The problem is their defense. Sporting *should* have signed a standout central defender, who they could have gotten for a lot less than $10 million. And KC is the ultimate system team; Are they really going to demand that Pulido lead the defense by sprinting at every pass back to the keeper?

On the other hand, Liga MX is several steps up from MLS so it's a real coup to grab their top scorer.

As I said, my knee jerk reaction is gloom and doom. They built this stadium to compete in MLS2.0 when the 3.0 era was in full flight. Just wait until Miami and Charlotte are up to speed, combined with Toronto, Atlanta and NYC already setting the mark for MLS3.0 spending. Not to mention you've got signs New England is serious about spending. Cincy is going to figure shit out. We are ********ed as well funded MLS2.0 team in 2020 and beyond.
