Both play Right Back. Assuming that both are healthy, and available for future selections, where do you slot them in, position wise?

    Yes.

During the Canada game I could have sworn I heard Ian Darke say that Dest actually prefered playing on the left.

Regardless, even if not true, I think Dest is one of the few of our players that can succeed playing "out of position."

Of course once Adams comes back Yedlin loses his place unless GB puts him on the wing. :/

Dest wherever he fits the tactic - may be left back, right back, right wing, lm, or rm. Utilize like we did Fabian, increasing his value. There's nothing Dest can't do at left back that he does at right back. He's relatively two-footed, not long-cross oriented, rather shot-oriented. That he can actually do better on the cut in at lb.

Cannon and/or Lima fit in and right and/or left back until we have further info. Both have probably out-played Yedlin for the nt recently. Especially if you're going to play possession, Yedlin is far from an ideal fit.

I'll be livid if Cannon doesn't play tomorrow to qualify him for the UK work permit to facilitate a move to the EPL where he reportedly has an offer. When he's there, then he may be viewed differently.

Dest will end up being a touchline RM in due time.

While that occurs Beerholder will play swapsies with him and DY

If we had to play Brazil/France tomorrow in a R16 World Cup game:

    ---------------------------Steffen-----------------------------
    ------------Miazga-----Brooks-----Long-----------------
    Yedlin----------Adams-------McKennie---------Dest
    --------------Morris--------------------Pulisic---------------
    -----------------------------Weah------------------------------

    Assuming:

    1) Brooks regains form and becomes a starter for Wolfsburg again;
    2) Weah & Adams return as they used to be, and keep improving;
    3) McKennie plays for the NT as he does for Schalke.

    Subs:
    Horvath
    Zimmerman
    Ream
    Cannon
    Yueill
    Lletget
    Zardes

    We'd still get destroyed, though.

Do we have any official confirmation?

From what I've seen, he needs to play in:
    • 60% of competitive games for a team ranked 21-30 in FIFA Rankings
    • 75% of competitive games for a team ranked 31-50
The FIFA ranking in the article I read was "over the last two years." I'm not sure if that's just the current ranking at the end or there's another way to get it.

This would be Reggie's 8th game in 10 games over the last two years -- Gold Cup plus Nations League (nothing in 2018). Which would definitely lock it in.

But the US is #23 in FIFA rankings, so maybe he's already qualified? No idea on my end, really, but I haven't seen anything but a few twitter posts by random people on it.

Either way, I hope he plays.

EDIT: Lowest ranking we've had over the last two years was 30th.

I want both on the field. Dest at LB, Yedlin at RB.

against Brazil/France, I would not defend with seven two way players (i.e., force morris and pulisic to expend a lot of energy defending). I think we'd have to switch one of the top three for a more well-rounded player.

IMO, this is really a good problem to have. We've got two younger FBs pushing for an EPL starter's NT spot. Partly because Cannon and Lima play a little more possession, a little more reserved, but still.

Yedlin is still a solid player. Not perfect, but still good. And Lima/Cannon are not without fault.

Until we get a natural LB emerging of international quality (maybe Gloster of PSV for instance)....................then I'm also in the Dest on the left camp. Yedlin, Cannon, Lima, etc. battle royale on the right.

TIm Ream at LB ain't gonna cut it against even the top of CONCACAF......................

We have not heard that he has an official "offer" from the UK.
We've heard "interest" from a Premier League and a Championship club. In the summer window there was interest from elsewhere in Europe and Mexico.

Either way, this is low hanging fruit for the Cuba game. Start Cannon.

I think this is a tough call. We have to consider is it better to have one of our more accomplished players playing a secondary position to get Yedlin on the field or do we want to maximize our top guys in their best spots? And I guess I wonder why we would want to make someone like Dest a utility player to plug the gaps. Personally, I want my utility players to be more run of the mill types. I don't think you want your top players being fill in guys all over the field. And I consider Dest one of our top players. I'm not 100% sold in either direction but I do think it is a much more complicated decision than just flipping Dest to the left to get more strong players on the field.

And that's without even getting into the thing where Dest is one of our most skilled players and is better in traffic further forward than most of our other guys. So, if you want to pull him out of position, does it make more sense to move him forward? I see Dest being an important piece of the puzzle for this team but he's still young and there are a ton of factors that will affect where he ultimately ends up. I just tend to hope it is in a single position he can lock into rather than getting pulled all over and never really making one spot his own.

I wish someone had asked Berhalter whether Dest's start at RB was more about Dest at his preferred position or more about wanting to play effectively with 3 CBs against Canada.

Its not really a tough question.

Bruce Arena said once that Landon Donovan was our best forward, our best winger, and our best midfielder. He often didn't put Landon in his favored position. He wanted to field the best TEAM.

If we're overall a better team with Dest on the left and Yedlin on the right..............then that's what you go with when the games start to mean something.

If your national team is performing like you want it to, the guys leave their egos at the door.

JOB was playing LB for Ajax and CM for us. Who knows what his best position was. Dest might play LB now, RB later and somewhere in midfield eventually.

Sure, if we're better with Dest on the left and Yedlin on the right, you play them there. But, we don't really know that. Maybe the drop off for Dest fro right to left is large or the improvement of having Yedlin on the field is so slight that it doesn't actually work that way. Or, why not move Yedlin over? The tough part is that when you move people around, it is not a simple matter of who are the "best" 11 without considering position. Our best 4 defensive guys would probably not be our best 4 man defensive line. I'm not saying Dest can't be moved around. But, I think there are a lot more factors involved and it's a stretch to say we know for sure how it shakes out best at this point.

And in a real life that coveted RB spot goes to Adams of course. Just because our DMs are so good.

Apparently, Lovdixz is rated over Dest to Berhalter.

Clearly his bias in not that extreme, because Dest played in the much more meaningful game in the camp.

Yedlin on the right and Dest on the left is like a boxer who is right handed and decides that he will jab with his right and go for the knockout with his left.

There's plenty of those. There aren't many with an inverted stance.

p.s. I am speaking historically as I don't watch boxing anymore and don't recommend it to anyone.
