Yeah, just seen this! Really hope it’s blown out of proportion! I mean after seeing the team bond well over the last few years, really don’t want a divided Squad like under the ‘ Golden Generation ‘ when apparently the Squad was divided due to Club rivalry.

    He shouldn't start either IMO

Oh dear.. The escalation of this City-Liverpool rivalry can't be good for the team.

    Blimey. Not ideal.

It’s not great but at least he hasn’t been sent home. It was always a bit risky having a meet up the day after a fiery game but Southgate couldn’t really do it any other way. Hopefully a one off.

Difficult to comment on the basis of the few infos we have on the incident itself, but this is extremely surprising.

Ridiculous. Why don't they grow up.

Deal with it privately and move on. Seems a bit ridiculous to me to make an official statement and announce a player won’t be considered for a game.

Didn't deal with it privately because it had already leaked.

You can still deal with the issue privately. Re-reading it I think that statement is pretty awful.

    From Sterling's Instgram:

All faintly ridiculous, but it sounds like it'll blow over quickly enough.

Probably been handled well and Sterling is a good guy really and is probably a bit embarrassed. I reckon it was a real head-loss that they had to address.

I just wish they'd found a way to keep this in-house. The "leak" could have easily been dismissed, and now anything but a perfect result against Montenegro will produce a massive media backlash. It feels like there are a lot of ego's developing all of a sudden.

I don't expect the players to be best friends, but i hope this is nipped in the bud, because we don't need another divided dressing room like we had under Sven

I wish the players would realise nothing in English football could be bigger then England winning a tournament. Absolutely nothing. We practically have a home tournament coming up for heavens sake. Every season they get to compete for the PL, its not going anywhere.

I remember watching Rio, Lampard and Gerrard discuss this same kinda thing on bt sport a while back and just being annoyed. It just seems so dumb, other then Spain can't think of others having this issue.

Of course not. That’s why I said Southgate couldn’t really do it any other way.

Needs to be nipped in the bud quickly and Club rivalry needs to be strictly put to one side when meeting up with the England Squad! I’m sure Southgate will have a team meeting about the issues with how to behave on International duty and leave out any Club banter or winding each other up! It all starts as a joke or banter as they call it these days but things can soon escalate into problems which isn’t needed within the England set up!

Tbh Southgate's man management and handling of the general dressing room has generally been exemplary through his tenure so I am confident we don't need to worry long term.

Maybe not but I’m just not sure leaving Sterling out of the Montenegro game was necessary but then again, I wasn’t there and didn’t see it, so only Southgate and the England set up know how it went down but both Gomez and Sterling are adults, surely just getting them together to sort it out would have been enough rather making it into an even bigger deal with a public punishment for Sterling.

Unless he absolutely smashed Joe or choked him half to death I would have just sat them down and sorted their issues and made sure it was the last time we saw that behavior in the England set-up. Both available to play.

I think it's the right thing to do. No player is bigger than the side.

If this was a more important game do you think he would have got the same punishment ?

I suppose like Marcho says, it is tough to understand their rationale without being there and seeing it.

It's just shit because I don't think Raheem thinks he is better than anyone or the team and a head loss is probably going to be blown out of all proportion knowing that some just want his blood. Think we all have had a head loss at some point.
