The frequency at which Championship teams play matches is insane. There's no good reason for 24 teams to be in that league.

Reading currently fifth from the bottom, with both 'boro and Huddlesfield having a game in hand on them. So Reading haven't really improved one iota since the the end of last season.

So is Reading still playing with a 3 man backline?

Yes, only way they can accommodate their 3M guys (Morrison, Moore, Miazga), who may well be their three best players. They're up to #17 already, so it's starting to work.

is the fact that Chelsea´s defense is HORRIBLE making it at all more likely that MM gets another chance there???

He can´t be THAT much worse than the players actually on the Chelsea roster at the moment, imo.....

He has the odor of MLS that the Chelsea staff can not forgive. Wouldn't he be like 5th on CB depth? Chelsea is 1 of those big clubs that refuses to look at non-superstars to come to their rescue.

well didn´t Lampard personally play against Miazga and didn´t Miazga get the better of him when that happened?? that´s gotta count for something at some point....

I watched him play ~1.5 matches at Chelsea, and he stood out as the worst player on the pitch for either side.

Seriously? I thought it was said he was impressive in his debut match

I'm all for boosting our YAs but he's nowhere near Pulisic's relative level. Nowhere.

nope if you think about how both Tomori & James are now being featured - both have looked good so far this season. If we are being real, Miagza is 8th in the depth charts. I have him behind Rudger, Dave & Hector - I am judging Hector based on his Copa de Oro performance for The Reggae Boyz

Isn't the suggestion that he join Chelsea effectively saying that (ie, he's good enough for Chelsea)? He's not good enough for that level (as Pulisic is).

Gotcha. I thought you meant he was on Pulisic's individual level of performances. I presumed Miazga was a cheap option for depth for Chelsea and they certainly treated him as such. It's a shame he never got more of a run in with the club or opportunities in the damn cup competitions at least. But I'm sure he'll prove he's first division quality somehow. Just not at Chelsea's level.

I hope you're right. He's doesn't look like the Championship/MLS/B2 level is beneath him - he doesn't look bad at all but not a guy that better teams are fighting to get. I've only watched him a couple of game this season though so I don't feel strongly.

Until he approaches the end of his Chelski contract he's probably going to be priced out of the market that could use him. I've not really watched much Reading tbh, but I did watch a lot of Vitesse, where he played with Mount, and it was clear Mount was "more special" but MM was one of the better players on that team as well.

His best shot at "Top League" play is as a cheap option to help shore up a bottom-dwelling club, but he's not a cheap option until he can start to be looking at leaving for free.

What do you think the economics are for a bottom third EPL team looking to shore up their defense? What can they afford relative to how much Chelsea wants, both in terms of annual pay (under a loan) and a buyout? Thanks.

I don't have any inside knowledge on this, so I can only go by what is reported out there. I had thought that MM signed an extension, but I don't see any reports of it, so if not he's out of his Chelsea contract this summer? (Anyone know anything different?) If that's the case, it would be more likely he could get someone taking a flier on him. He makes a nickel, but not so much it would scare someone off that thought he could help. Dunno what rights Reading got with the loan either. But few lower end EPL teams pay more than 4-5 million or so for defenders unless they're pretty special.

I think NUFC, who I paid a bit of attention to due to Yedlin, paid 5+ for Krafth, 7 for Fernandez, 4 for Schar, 1 mill loan fee + 10 million buy option for Willems and they loaned someone else for about 1 mill whose name is escaping me...

But I wouldn't be shocked if MM were available on a free if this summer. He'd be a good investment at minimum.

given the trends, it’s unclear to me that economics will be a limiting factor in miazga moving. They could always agree to a higher sell on percentage if he plays well at a higher level.
