I thought it was harsh.. looks like he will be moving on in the summer though. As long as it isn’t Man Utd I’d be happy. I’d rather he went abroad or if not then Liverpool/City.

Personally I’d like to see Maddison get a run and with no Barkley and Henderson those options are getting thin.

Yes, favre confirmed it was not because of injury. It was to improve the team. They lost 3 goals after he came off so that worked out well. ...Sancho and favre clearly not right since he turned up late from the last england camp. Tbh, I think favre isolating sancho is hurting not helping their team. They need their best players and he seems an honest enough lad who made a mistake. Humiliating him is a terrible move.I expect southgate to use it to his advantage by showing him some love.

Wow, that seems a bit extreme from Favre to be honest! Dortmund were only 1-0 down with 10mins to the break, why would you waste a sub that early on when he could have got Sancho in at halftime and talked to him more about his responsibilities that he maybe wasn’t doing or what he needed to improve on and then see how he responds in the second half. Sancho might not have been playing all that well but he sure wasn’t the only one. Seems harsh to sub him like that, thus no doubt denting his confidence in the process.

There’s something going on there, he was fined and dropped for being late back from the last international break too.

Doubt it mbappe would cost a fortune. Sancho will probably go for around 100 million

Probably because of the small sample size. Weren't there some reasonably successful ones in the 80s/90s? Sancho and Trippier from our current squad are doing alright, I'm sure others could too.

Bet there are less than 20 success stories of English players thriving at a top European team in the last 25 years -wheras there must me hundreds and hundreds of Brazilian players in and around all the top European clubs

Because English football quite comfortably pays the most, the only real reason to leave England is either for playing time or because you're among the elite few good enough to play for Barcelona or Real Madrid. Brazil, by contrast, is a third world country, where the ambition is always to leave for bigger and better things in Europe. That, and Brazil usually produce better players and more of them.

Apparently there’s not going to be a replacement called up for Barkley. You kind of now how this situation may unfold, we get nearer to the game and a couple more players withdraw and then Southgate and the FA are suddenly scratching around for last minute replacements. Obviously such a shame Grealish is injured and I think he would have been called up.

Maddison may not be as eye catching as last season but Rodgers is the first manager to play him as a genuine center midfielder. He's picking the ball up in deeper positions to help progress play and doing all the pressing and defensive stuff. If he can do it in the premier league surely he can play in midfield at the slower pace of internationals.

Agree that Brazil produces more players. However, I couldn't disagree more that playing for Real or Barca or playing time are the only reasons for leaving England. Firstly, clubs like Bayern, Juve, PSG and once upon a time the Milan clubs are all clubs which either are or were huge draws for players. Secondly, let's face it, you can get a much better lifestyle in a lot of European cities than you can in England. Would you rather play for Roma or Everton for instance? For me it's a no brainer on lifestyle and location alone. Finally, at the second tier European clubs like Atleti, Dortmund, Ajax etc you're far more likely to be playing regular CL football than at a best of the rest pl club like Everton, West Ham and even Arsenal these days.

Harvey Barnes and Grealish have done more to be called up than someone like Hudson odoi .
Both would fit into the system. Grealish the type of player who would link up the play and run with the ball .

Harvey Barnes along with Kasper Schmeichel are to of the most underrated players in the PL.

I think most English players would rather play for Everton if they were paying more, which they probably would be. It's been decades since Italian teams could compete financially. I mean, it wasn't long ago that Wilshere had the choice of West Ham and AC Milan and we know how that went. Even Tom Ince chose Hull City over Inter Milan. Most things come down to economics and family, and if a player doesn't need to uproot his family or earn less than they might do, chances are he won't.

Historically it has definitely been that way you're right, I am hopeful mind that the success of the likes of Sancho and hopefully Trippier will start to cause a long term shift in thinking. Even Smalling seems to be doing quite well at Roma. You'd hope that these players can sell the idea of playing abroad to the future generations as like you say, too often it comes down to money.

  20. It will depend on the idea a player has about himself. When rather young and not tested enough in the epl to be considered by the top epl clubs a side step to a CL playing club might be a very wise investment in yourself by having the chance to show yourself in a platform highly regarded by the top clubs.
Frenkie de Jong wasnot developed by Ajax, but by Willem II. Had he stayed with Willem II, but still shown his qualities he actually would be ignored by the big clubs or being bought for far less with a paycheck that goes with it. With Ajax he showed on the CL stage his capability to play against the best, hence his current paycheck and transferfee.

I think he means as a double pivot. We've covered this but I don't think they work together in any midfield combo.

Speaking of Rice, I don’t want to see him start both games. We’re running out of time to try other options.
