No need to feel bad at first blush I thought it was Julien Green.

Whats the big deal? According to certain doggies, we don't have any talent.

He still looks fitter than Freddy Adu.

He did nothing to take the energy out of the ball. A better technician would have rounded his chest in a concave manner thus allowing the ball to fall directly at his feet rather than the ten steps it took for Weah to make re-contact. Anyone who thinks that play is a display of talent, doesn't understand the game.

I like young Weah but someone should teach him the fundamentals of trapping a ball with his chest.

You serious? He beat a defender because of that touch. Controlling it to his feet means he turns the ball over. The defender was waiting for that traditional control, and because it didn't happen, Weah got past him immediately.

Not even close...the defender had already badly overrun the play.

Seems to me Tim intentionally pushes the ball with his chest into the space that the defender is about to vacate. It seems Tim anticipates the defender is going to try and tackle the ball if Tim chests it straight down so instead he ‘chest pushes’ it into the space. The fact that Tim immediately takes a step in the direction of where he is pushing the ball with his chest seems to me at least to show he knew exactly what he was doing.

So it seems both Weah and Adams will be back after the international break.

    Yay.

Look at the video, you can clearly see he intentionally pushes the ball forward with his chest to beat the defender. That’s why he reacts so quickly. If he was intending to touch into his feet, his body shape would be completely different. Your analysis of this play iterates that in fact you are the one who hasn’t played the game at a high level.

I think we should have several pages of discussion on whether this 1 second clip means Weah is good or bad.

If you look at frames 13-25, you can clearly see Weah's chest move back and to the left.

    Back... and to the left.

    baaaack... and to the left.

Weah: occasional brilliant first touch, occasional donkey first touch.

One of my greatest soccer memories is seeing a fully in-form Ronaldinho eviscerate Villiareal in 06. Every. Single. Touch. Sparkled. He was undeniably, eye-popping talented and the best player on the field by miles. Weah can conjure up a moment like that once maybe every 4-8 first touches, which is better than most and certainly top tier in our pool. He's still so young and inexperienced though and if he can stay healthy, he can hopefully knock that rate down some. He knows he's good and he knows he doesn't know how good he can be, which gives as all, himself included, hope.

His vision is meh. That's why I want him as a striker, not as a winger/side AM.

I hope you're kidding there, chap. That defender, whom he beat, was within a half step at the end of the play. If Timo stops and keeps ball at feet with perfectly synchronized ball to concave chest movement then Timo would not have been able to burst forward and get past said defender.

I love BS. Where else can you discuss about 30 video frames to judge the entirety of a player? :)
