Depends on the reason. If they pull with insufficient notice, they are totally justified to file for an injunction, which is what the Fury threatened to do last year.

However, if such decision was ever going to happen, CONCACAF would give them sufficient notice.

In which court? CAS would be the place for such a case and its unlikely they win on the merit that FIFA's own rules are unfair... Why'd you agree to it in the first place then?

    MLS richer than FIFA? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

This isn't about "supporting" CPL. It's about enforcing their rule, the same one preventing UEFA clubs from playing in other country's leagues. If you think one second they would set a precedent giving ammo to those clubs you're sadly mistaken

Some think they wanted out of soccer all along anyways. I tend to agree. Only the CAS would here their case and even then, I doubt they have one.

I dont know the technicality of the exit clause in a single entity league such as MLS or much money and in what way it'd be divided.

Its unlikely that back in 2007 and 2011, the CSA and CONCACAF and FIFA would have signed a deal making it next to impossible to reverse course on sanctioning those 3 in MLS.

The rules are crystal clear and all parties knew well in advance how it works. Sanctioning was always conditional and FIFA ultimately has the last say.

There's no case against FIFA here. Whatever needs to be settled in such a separation would have to be settled between the league and clubs.

An injunction is used to stop a party from taking an action in litigation. Just because you give someone notice that you’re going to do something doesn’t prevent them from getting an injunction to stop that action.

The court would be whatever court the plaintiffs could persuade to take the case.

And the plaintiffs wouldn’t have to win the case. They just have to make the defendants bleed money for years.

FIFA has no interest in becoming part of a lawsuit in the US. That would expose them to discovery and depositions in American courts. FIFA executives don’t even like coming here, for fear of being arrested.

US court don’t care about CONCACAF’s made up rules.

You're fun to read. Reality is that sanction is a privilege, not a right. FIFA doesn't have to sanction anyone in non-compliance of it's rule.

If you think that such scenario wasn't already fleshed out and included in an exit clause with MLS, then you dont know business. No parties would get into an agreement without defining clearly what would happen in such scenario.

The question isn't "if" FIFA can remove the sanction or not. The answer is "absolutely" they can. When the head of the CSA threatened to pull the teams from MLS, no one from the league rebutted him nor denied that he could do it.

The real question is how does that work? That's between the league and the clubs. Miki Turner tweet about such potential scenario and what comes back the most often is that teams would have to sell back their shares to MLS at the minimum.

The whole legal angle isn't happening, less so in American court. This would go to the CAS.

And you’re uniformly clueless when it comes to anything to do with legal issues.

You love to rely on Concacaf to do CPL’s dirty work for them.

Last time I looked, Miami is in the US.

Based on what information is available regarding non-ticket revenue, I give the league a better than 50/50 chance of surviving that critical first decade. There is certainly room to grow in terms of fan support. If the league does survive long term in will be because that fan support grows since the rest of the revenue is ultimately tied to the appeal of a large fan base.

Hopefully by the end of the first decade, the crowds will be closer to 10 000 than the 4500 they are today. The trick will be weathering the dip that is likely to come in the next couple of years as the "new car smell" wears off. I suspect the average attendance for many teams will be down before it is up again.

"1 goal is what Forge incredibly scored in all nine of their meetings with Cavalry in 2019. Cavalry won the Spring Season and the Fall Season, but Tristan Borges-inspired Forge’s third consecutive 1-0 win in the fixture saw them cause an upset in the maiden Canadian Premier League final."

The Forge played the Cavalry 9 times this season?? And I complained about the 4 times the Sounders faced the Timbers most seasons..

They do have a lot of regular season games against each opponent given the low number of teams in the CPL. Hamilton and Calgary also met home and away in the Final and happened to draw each other for home and away in the Canadian Championship. Most years it would be fewer matches.

According to this French article quoting CPL commissioner David Clanachan, the league has made powerful allies since it's launch.
While both Garber and Clanachan have acknowledged that the relationship between MLS and CPL are inexistant, CPL is in direct and frequent contact with Javier Tebad, head of La Liga and with Christian Seifert of Bundesliga. They inquire regularly with CPL and asking if they can contribute.

He added that the league is open to foreign investors wanting to own a club in the league

This could be massive for FC Edmonton. A partnership with the other summer pro-teams in the city would be wise. Collaboration is better than competing against one another,

Not sure, but ownership merging under one sport umbrella like in Toronto, Ottawa and Calgary would be huge for the CPL club. (Where are you Katz "Edmonton Oilers")

Add: According to this source, FC Edmonton and the Edmonton Eskimos are working on a plan for the construction of a facility (ies) capable of hosting all the summer sports.

I've heard that FIFA is also helping the CanPL, but don't know in what capacity - I read it in an article. I'm just wondering if you've heard anything more on that? Is it in expertise, or money (God knows FIFA is massively wealthy), or both?

Do you have a link to the article? It would definitely be interesting to read.

That being said, it could be all of the above. One of FIFA's missions is to grow the sport globally and creating a league in a country that doesn't have one and can support one is an excellent way to do that.

It would be nice to know even what the salary cap actually is. It's interesting perhaps to hear that the CPL doesn't have allocation-money-type exceptions, but we really have almost no information on what they do have.

I think I had posted it before when the league was looking to launch last year. I can confirm that they are getting financial help from FIFA as well. I can't look for it right now but when I come around to it, I'll post

I'm surprised there haven't even been any leaks. USL doesn't give out their payroll information, yet we still get leaks periodically about what the average salary is for USL players and a general range for what payrolls are.

They aren't sharing salaries to keep an edge in negotiations to control costs, best they do that until there's an "CPLPA" We keep hearing under 1 million but it's actually in the league's best interest to keep implying that to control costs.

The likes of De Jong at Pacific or Edgar at Forge aren't taking a hometown discount to play in CPL. Canadians playing oversee were asked if they'd be interested to come home. Overwhelmingly it was
    1. Level of play
    2. comparable (no one's taking a hometown discount)
Recently, Edgar, the league and clubs said that many Canadians overseas expressed their interests in coming home to CPL after witnessing the 1st season. Edgar pointed out that former CanMNT players as well were calling. That implies that the level meets their minimum and they are confident they'll get similar pay.

Just like MLS, the disparity in salary will be there. Guys from
    • U-Sports (Draft minimum wages)
    • Developmental leagues (lower tier)
    • Trials (minimum)
can't expect high wages, their stock are at their lowest and the league is clearly not overpaying for talent.

I think you have "low class" and "top class" pay (no elites aka pricy internationals for now). It will take time to see a "middle class"...which would be guys showing good performances consistently at CPL level (players being resigned I posted in the off season thread.

Preventing leaks as proved an "annoying area" where the league has excelled. Whatever gets leaks, seems to be on purpose...like the "planned aged restrictions for international signings". They announced recently that nothing will change for roster rules...

I'm guessing they leaked the rumor to see what the reactions would be and made a decision.
