I now watched the full game on the AFC YouTube channel, and I see what you were meaning, @unepommekun. It looked like Aussies' only kind of strategy was: "Let's randomly kick the ball as far away as possible to get some short relief from the pressure". o_O Their central FW Fowler was quite fast, but she had no technique, so she didn't pose a real problem to our defense: thus the "kick the ball forward" strategy didn't really have a decent target.

As soon as our girls adjusted to the game (in the first minutes, their passes in Australian last 30 yards were lacking a little accuracy) this became a no contest.

The moment we started scoring one goal each two minutes, at the beginning of 2nd half, gave the impression that we could have easily reached an USA-Thailand-like score.

In fact, they only inserted Princess Ibini, who on paper should be their best player, at the beginning of 2nd Half; on the other hand, she had no impact whatsoever on the game, so not starting her could have been the correct technical choice, after all. :cautious:

Anyway, a Japanese player that I especially liked today was Sara Ito; she appears to have everything on the technical siede: all kinds of good accurate passes (volley-passes, no-look-passes, assists in the box, you name it), an exquiste proficiency in trapping the ball, the ability of timing an header to beat defenders who are much taller than her (as seen as she scored 5th goal); at one point, towards the end of 1st half, she dribbled the most of Australian defenders like traffic cones, à la Yokoyama. Superb.

About the late brace-taker, Maho Hirosawa, she looks quite tall for Japanese standard: how tall she is? Both her goals were beautiful: the first one was as powerful and accurate as it gets, while for the second one she waited for the GK to go down, misleading her by faking a shot. She sure made the best of her playing time.

Who's Ikeda's female assistant coach who uses to wear a baseball cap with a ponytail? She looks familiar to me: is she a former player?

Random observation: without comment you can clearly hear everything happens on the pitch; I found incredible how high pitched our players' voices are when they sing Kimigayo: ok, they're young girls, but how do they manage to do that? :p

I really don't know who came up wth that idea, but that person deserves to be sacked in the morning. If Japan has to wear those at the Olympics, I cannot imagine the amount of ridicule the teams will get.

That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing Japan wearing white and red hooped shirts for football like their rugby counterparts. The men's rugby team looks great in those.

Oh, ok: I was sure I knew her. :) She basically retired soon after 2011, when I started following Nadeshiko football, but I remember very well about her (was she playing in Iga, in her last season, if I remember well?). Her face grew a little thinner, but she can be anyway recognized quite well. And she keeps being a beautiful woman! How old is she?

I am happy that she's being successfull in her coaching career: being Ikeda's assistant is an enviable position. When was she appointed? I don't remember having seen her at the U-20 WWC in France last year: I was there in Brittany and I guess I would have noticed her if she had been on the bench already (but maybe I just missed her?).

She was the first Nadeshiko League player who played as she was a mother.
She was an assistant coach of Little Nadeshiko from 2016 December.
PrimaHam (now Iga) won the title for the second time in L League in 1999.

So, if I get it right, Miyamoto was appointed assistant to Little Nadeshiko (U-16/U-17) and she keeps following them right now that they have become Young Nadeshiko (U-19/U-20), but she wasn't with Young Nadeshiko's previous cycle, so it's normal that I didn't notice her in France last year? Did I get it right?

I did my researches and found that she's going to be 41 in December.

The AFC Youtube streaming feed had a chat window next to the video where people were trash-talking the way they use to do about the prettiness of players and teams: more than one person there explicitly appreciated "the Japanese pony-tailed assistant". :)

So, Suwon won it, and Ikejiri (no.11) and Madoka Haji (no.5) are back in action today as Suwon host the WK-League final 1st leg.
Also a chance to see the Korean champions Incheon 'Red Angels', who'll be Beleza's opponents in the AFC Experimental Club Championship in Korea later this month.
If either Haji or Ikejiri does the postmatch winner's interview, something has gone very wrong - Incheon are heavy favourites to win their 7th title in a row.

Despite the nickname, it'll prob be Suwon in red, and Incheon in blue today. The 2nd leg is on Monday 11 Nov.

    (1st leg kickoff 10am GMT / 19:00 JST)

I believe it's an honorific to show respect, Blissett-san, but don't take my word for it. I used to think a draw was a radish and vice-versa.

And so the first leg just ended in a 0-0 draw: a very good result for Suwon, I suppose, since they were supposed to be swept away.

I only watched short excerpts from the live feed, but the teams seemed quite evenly matched to me.

The last 4 minutes of injury-time of the game (it actually became about 10 minutes), that I happened to watch, were probably more eventful than all of the rest of the match. In the 1st minute of injury time, Incheon's captain got the second yellow and was sent-off for a foul on our Mayu Ikejiri who was running centrally towards the goal (in my opinion, it could have arguably been a direct red for denying a clear goal opportunity, but anyway, since it was the second yellow, it didn't make much difference). One minute later, Incheon's GK got injured during the long subsequent attacking action from Suwon: 2nd GK wasn't even ready, since she had to run to the changing room where she had forgotten her gloves!

The 0-0 stayed, but I suppose Incheon's captain will be disqualified for the second leg, so Ikejeri's, Haji's & Co. chances are getting higher.

Apart from Incheon missing Beatriz Zaneratto, did any of the two teams miss any young player for U-19 AFC Championship?

Also, Beatriz is a quite important player in Brazil NT: it looks like South Korean League is managing to attract quite a number of international talents, something Nadeshiko League is missing since many years. Not sure if it's good or bad for the development of domestic talents (after all, Japan wasn't at the top back in the years when Nadeshiko League had Brazilian players also), but I anyway wonder why Korean teams are apparently better at signing players from overseas, despite the fact that in the latest years Japan NT has been consistently better thatn South Korean NT. Are those teams better funded (Incheon Red Angels have Hyundai has sponsor)? Or is the league more successful than Nadeshiko League, so better attendances translate into more investments? :cautious:

What can this mean for the respective growth of South Korean and Japanese women's football's environment?

Because she plays for the Matildas they probably do not choose her, which to be honest makes sense. She has already been to a senior world cup. But then again Ibini is there, so who knows?

Young Nadeshiko could select Jun Endo and Saori Takarada, but they are not playing here.

By the way: I read Saori Takarada has her birthday much late in the year: she'll be 20 on 27th of December. Please remind me at how the rule works for U-20 WWC: are the players eligible for it if they have their 21st birthday on the same year of the WWC?

I don't think the level of play in the Nadeshiko League (as far as skill goes) is affected in any way due to the lack of foreign players. But I do think it affects tactics and for that reason I think it would be nice to have a few more foreign players from Europe, America or Australia in some teams.

I think Beleza and INAC are the only teams with most of their players being full-time (correct me if I am wrong). I am sure some of the other teams have one or two full-time players, but everybody else has to rock up to work every day and then go to training. Because of this I think it is difficult to attract anybody really good, because who wants to work?

Of course you could wave a lot of money at somebody, but Japanese clubs do not have a lot of money to spare.

I do think the clubs could reach out more to young talent from other countries. Watching Australia at the AFC I was thinking how Nojima would be a really interesting team with a player like Princes Ibini. It does not seem so unrealistic when you consider that her sister plays in the Korean League.

Your mistake is understandable: after all she's not eligible for a question of mere 5 days (27th of December to 1st of January).

AFC U19 Final and 3rd place games in 13 hrs

Young Nadeshiko will not have such an easy ride against Korea DPR but I think they can do it.
If the other day is anything to go by Korea Rep should have the better of the Aussies.

    Busy weekend
