I'll add to the above; IMO, she needs to either embrace the reserve position or retire. I don't see her returning to a starting position, no matter her form and even with a new coach. She's a great option from the bench, and has a chance to make the Olympic roster as a bench player. But I don't think she'll be starting without injuries to the current starters (God forbid).

I would refer Lloyd to the advice given a baseball player in "Bull Durham."

The only things you say in an interview are "I'm glad to be here," and "I just want to help the team."

Likely the start of a series of events such as occurred following the World Cup in 2015. I think it shows that so far as the players are concerned, it's the World Cup that matters. The new cycle begins as soon as the Victory Tour is over. The Olympics may matter, but not that much.

Perhaps, there could be a major plot twist where Carli Lloyd also becomes pregnant because, why not? That way she doesn't suffer the embarrassment of being "kicked off the team" by new coach but simply, she found herself pregnant and subsequently retires that way. But I think Lloyd is too competitive and stubborn to get pregnant when she still wants to play.

There's one report out there saying that she hopes to still play in the Olympics. That would only be about 3 months to get ready, which I think is unlikely. Can you make a comeback in 3 months? Yes, if we're talking a return to practice and club play or even international friendlies (and if the pregnancy has no complications). Can you do it in good enough form for a major international tournament? I don't think so, especially with the roster probably being named in June, unless the coach pulls one from Ellis' 2016 Olympic playbook (bringing Rapinoe).

Thanks for the example to prove my point. At the fastest, Fawcett came back 3 weeks after giving birth to a practice, but it was still about 10 weeks later before she played in a game (friendly) and just over a year before playing in a major international tournament (95 WWC). Most other examples I can think of (Overbeck, Rampone, Boxx) had at least a year after pregnancy before a major international tournament. Most didn't even return to camp until 4-5 months after.

The Great Joy Fawcett could have played hours after giving birth. Conventional laws and rules of evolution and medical science do not apply since it was.......The Great Joy Fawcett.

There will be a December camp to identify new players (Current CBA also calls for this id camp to give the core team an offseason). NWSL players have known about the dates so they can make their off-season plans.

With a new coach, it'll be interesting who gets called in.

With friendlies Nov 7 and 10 approaching, Vlatko should name his roster some time this week.

Wondering what the rules are for composing this roster? It's no longer the Victory Tour, so it doesn't have to be identical to the World Cup team. But it's not the "talent identification" December camp either, so it won't be entirely new players. Does the CBA specify how many new players Vlatko can call in for these November friendlies?

Under the 2017 CBA, there’s no limit to the number of non-contract players who can be called into camp. Of course, as long as there are contracted players, its more advantageous for USSF to call in those players since they are already paying them.

Putting in place a sale to honor the veterans, eh Nike?

Nike, the day may come when my passion for this team finally convinces me to pay up for one of your overpriced jerseys...

Also, does anyone else remember when these celebratory emails from the federation always came with a discount code for U.S. Soccer Store instead of simply an invitation to pay full price for everything on the site as usual?

I spoke to the Producer of Wheel of Fortune and "Greatest Team in the Universe wins World Cup Again" would have also been accepted as a correct answer.
