I'm not too heartbroken over this, he always looked a bit weak on defense

It's not really a tough loss given he's never played in our set-up, he isn't as good as our current options, and he doesn't have elite potential. It's a nothing move. Dest was never going to be good enough for the Oranje IMO.

  4. Yeah, I consider him more of an attacking midfielder. I do like his technical abilities and forward drive, but as I wrote a few posts back, he simply isnot up to the standards defensively. The (sparse) moments Feyenoord was on the break out and in the Ajax box/last third he was nowhere to be seen (well, at the Feyenoord box).

  5. You realise you're repeating a mantra about our midfielders/attackers/defenders in general, do you.
Look now. Koeman now has a plethora of choices in all lines.
If Ihattaren chooses Morocco, it can be understandable from a pov about how many players line up for a spot. You only can field one and the number of midfielders you can bring to a tournement isnot unlimited too.
Koeman has ample choice for any spot in the Orange team, but if you choose to ignore that fact you regret everything.

I'm talking about RB. In my opinion it is our weakest spot currently and has the least amount of prospects moving forward. It's a spot that needs fixing

  7. You missed the point the same talk a year ago was about the lines/spots I mention. So in a year it differs from night and day. Insisting on the now about a spot while the reality hass shown the now means nothing in a year time is simply ignoring facts. Dest was never the solution for at least the coming 12 months or ever for that spot, as he simply isnot up to the defensive standards the players we use now have. But if you keep denying that, just take a good look when a very weak Feyenoord was in the attack where Dest was.

  8. Dest was excellent attack wise against Feyenoord.

Please Zeefuik plays way more than Dest. Bye bye and good luck with the USMN. Karsdorp if injuries allow him to play is the best future RB we can have at the moment.

I don't disagree with you that he is still too weak. Especially against better competition. But he is only 18 years old so has time to grow and add strength and become better defensively.

I know things can change over a year and someone can pop on the radar and develop quickly. But for now things are bleak at RB and Dest gave Oranje a promising prospect in an area of need

  11. I personally saw him more as an attacking midfielder with the qualities to match that.

Best wishes for Dest. He probably could have waited until the season ends to see where things are, but I think ultimately he has made the right decision. The USMNT track would give him more exposure, career-wise and commercially speaking. Who knows, if the stars aligned, he may be playing once or a handful of times for Oranje, but keeping the spot and playing regularly is a much more daunting task in Oranje than in the USMNT. I doubt Oranje will miss him that much.

Dumfries is 24, Karsdorp 25, Hataboer 25... they are all miles ahead of Dest at this point, and they can/will get better physically and defensively. Veltman is 27, reaching to be what's considered to be the golden age for a defender. Jeremie Frimpong of Celtics could be a surprise. He was part of the Man City successful FA Cup youth team, but is now going the Scottish Celtic route to gain first-team experience. But darn it, he is of Ghanaian descent - so the moment he's uncovered, he will be snatched out from Oranje :x3::p

A leftback or rightback position is really the wrong position for that however. Most of the glory goes to strikers, midfielders, keepers and CB's. How many fullbacks are famous?? Very few IMO.

Having said that I hope he becomes successfull and gets his mug a Wheaties box

Trust me... with the state of the USMNT today, if you can manage two consecutive passes in a row - you will get the glory! Regardless of position. :p:D

With RB being an area of need moving forward, someone to watch is Frimpong with Celtic. Just starting to get more playing time and already has 1 goal and 1 assist in two games as well as a MOTM in a cup game. Also from watching highlights of the games it looks like he has a few pre assists as well. Not the biggest player but gets up pitch really well and has some nice skill

He may have been , I havent followed his career for the last couple of years.

But he's not injured now, no reason not to call him up for the November games. Lodewijks is at least keeping an eye on him, which is good

Bakker and familia- Castillo are long term projects. Wijndal should be an upgrade to Blind hopefully and break into NT after the euros.Bosz is also trying to mould sinkgraven into LB but looks like he is to vulnerable to injuries.

On the right I think kardorp,Tete and Dumfries could battle it out for the first and second.

Former ManU LB, Alex Buttner moves to MLS here in the US, signing a contract with New England. I don't think this will help his NT aspirations.;)

  22. He still has them?
By the way, how is Leerdam doing. He's now in the mls final for the title, but how is he doing from a quality performance pov. Is he an option for the Orange squad?
I was kind of surprised he went to the States while he's good enough for any club aspiring to get far in the EL.

Memphis with 2 goals and the 95th minute match winner from a little solo run. Beastmode.
