❌ Harry Kane ❌ Neymar ❌ Paul Pogba A number of big names have missed out on #BallonDor nominations— Sky Sports News (@SkySportsNews) October 21, 2019
No. He’s the fifth Asian nominee for Ballon d’Or. Hidetoshi Nakata - 1998, 1999 Seol Ki-Hyeon - 2002 Park Ji-Sung - 2005 Younis Mahmoud - 2007 (the only Asian player to get votes in the final voting round)
Also, only European players were eligible for Ballon d’Or before 1995, which is why Cha Beom-Kun was never nominated, which is a shame since he was the one Asian player who actually had a chance of winning Ballon d’Or.
Memorable week for Son : named among the 30 best players in the world and became the best Korean and Asian scorer ever in Europe.
Sonny off at 68'--SO close to a hat trick. Brilliant runs (that pace was deadly) and showed a willingness to create and cross. Great to see some life from this team after the worst form it's been in since early this year. Red Star is the weakest team in the CL but any team in the CL can't be underestimated (look at PSG & Pool...) Hopefully they can carry on some of this confidence vs Pool on the weekend
Asian scorer in top-tier European leagues, but not overall. Maksim Shatskikh scored about 70-80 more goals while playing for Dinamo Kyiv and other Ukrainian and Russian clubs. Unless you consider Australia “Asian” now since they are in AFC. Then it’s Mark Viduka, he was an absolute goal machine in the Premier League with about 90-100 more goals than Son in his European career.
Son's speed is no joke. Sonny put on the JETPACK pic.twitter.com/q98C3hQjUV— Donnie Kwak (@KwakaFlocka) October 22, 2019
on wikipedia there was an error on the number of goals of his Heung min which was finally corrected. son Heung min is at 121 goals tied with cha bum. he only needs 1 goal to become the best coreen striker in europe
Lol what are you talking about? There is no long list or shortlist. It’s been a simple process for the past 20-30 years. There was never a longlist/shortlist for nominees.
To avoid any more dumb comments about Ballon d’Or: 1. There is no such thing as a long list or a shortlist. That’s some dumb rumour that has been circulating among Korean netizens this week to berate Seol and Park’s achievements. 2. France Football draws up a list of nominees and publishes it before the vote. This is the only list they publish. Son is just a nominee, exactly like Seol and Park. 3. Designated journalists vote from the nominees, listing their top 5 choices, who receives points accordingly, and the player with the most points wins the award. The only Asian player to get points was Younis Mahmoud in 2007.

I hope Barcelona realize Sonny is better than Griezman and Neymar (at least for their tactics) and make an offer for him. This guy deserves some titles. Imagine the runs he could make on the left getting passes from Messi and company. Goddamit penalty for Liverpool as I'm typing this.
