******** these guys so god damn hard.

If we win, we may just destroy the franchise for a second time.

I have to say- I have a bad feeling about this game.
That said... my feelings don't mean anything.

I really don't want to lose to these guys right now. But if I'm being perfectly honest with myself, I sort of feel like this is about as far as we have any reasonable expectation of going given how this team has performed all year. So IF we crash out, it won't be too big of a let down.

What I don't want to see is LAFC rains down the mother of all beat-downs on us in a playoff elimination. That would hurt.

I don't know what to expect, but that seems to be the Galaxy this year.
Zlatan was pretty bad v. MN. My wife is convinced he doesn't care. His pregame interview was that it doesn't matter what happens, he's the greatest still.... so she interpreted that as he doesn't feel like he needs to prove anything. Which translates into him not really caring about that game. It was hard to refute watching him play.

I've been hearing that Zlatan would be a beast in the playoffs- I haven't seen any evidence of that in the one playoff game we've had so far. His passing was horrid and his effort wasn't as good as his passing. Hopefully he shows up at the Stanc.

I said this in the other thread. Both maximum glory and maximum humiliation are possible. But Zlatan needs to have a big game. The biggest of his Galaxy career. Hopefully he's saving himself for this event.

I'm of the opinion that rtdavide's wife is probably right, but that the atmosphere Thursday will give Zlatan no choice but to wither or to bring it, and I don't think Zlatan's personality, drive, or ego will allow the former. Now will his innate competitive disposition be writing checks that his aging body can't cash? Possibly.

Turf toe really hurts. I had it this summer and you get random pulses of pain that shoot through the toe. No matter what you are doing, that pain stops you dead in your tracks. Understandable that he is not playing.

I’m the opposite. I have a good feeling about this.

Because they locked up the SS so early, and because they didn’t play in the first round, I feel that they haven’t played a true competitive game in weeks.

I also feel like all the pressure is on them. They’re the higher seed, they’re at home, they’re building a rep for not winning the big game, and they haven’t beaten us. That’s a lot to have on your shoulders.

Only thing that worries me is that MLS has made it their mission to make sure LAFC is successful. I get the feeling for the league it’s LAFC or bust this year. It’s a failure for them unless they win it.

Yep. As far as I'm concerned, we are playing with house money. Let's let Zlatan be Zlatan and go out there and punch them in the mouth and see how it shakes out....

Why do you think this? Both LAG (due to Zlatan) and LAFC should be good TV draws. And if LAFC loses I don't think they will lose any fans (they will just grumble and recover for next season). Worst case for MLS is us losing badly. We are hanging onto our "super club" status by a thread due to our recent crap years. MLS benefits from both LAG and LAFC being strong brands and the rivalry narrative being compelling.

In the EC both NYCFC and Atlanta also will be good for MLS viewership. The only disaster I could see would be an RSL-PHI Final. Who wants to watch that?

I think it’s to the leagues benefit to have two successful teams in NY and LA. Successful meaning well supported but also winning cups.

I think, and this is all my own speculation, they want to avoid LAFC becoming another Chivas USA, or simply, to be another Clippers, or our shadow. LAFC is new and trendy and nothing will solidify them more than a major cup.

A coworker (lafc fan) on Monday morning told me a loss to the Galaxy will only solidify LAFC is the 2nd team here. They know it and the league knows it.

I don't think LAFC is in any way in danger of going the way of the goats. Due to their stadium and it's location they have a solid foundation to build on. And they seem to have good management who have made some smart signings. Shitvas had neither - it had no stadium and was run by idiots who identified the team with an unsavory and unsustainable premise.

Now as far as 1st or 2nd team in LA, I don't know why MLS top brass would care at all. Garber et al just needs both teams to continue to be big draws.

And yes LAFC fans will definitely be butthurt if they lose to us again and have to endure another year of "can't win the big ones" narrative. But they also have a SS and a regular season +48gd to fall back on so I don't think most of their fans will be as quick to cede #1 status (in their minds) as your coworker.

I think bottom line our "brand" needs the win more than LAFC because of recent history and because we are sailing into the wind of some misguided perceptions. Tbh a very close game won't change much but we definitely can't afford a bad loss.

Some compelling discussion. If only we had some sort of definitive answer. Like maybe something on social media ... from Mike Magee.

I don't know man. This may be their best opportunity to shine. They had all that expansion extra money to throw around without the burden of any bad contracts like every other MLS team has to deal with. In their two years of existence they've made some bad deals (Ramirez net loss and Horta) just like every MLS team inevitably does and it will begin to bite them as they move further away from their inception and all the mulligans that come with it. They also are very very reliant on a single player that really is too good for this league. How long does that stay that way? (both in his ability and his willingness to do that)

To me it is very possible that these are golden years for the LAFC franchise.

I wasn't disputing that at all. Things have gone extremely well for them - it had to for them to end up with that gd and only 4 losses. It would be astonishing if they ever reached those regular season heights again. My point was something different - just that it is unlikely they will go the way of the goats. They will likely be a good WC team from here out, with good years and lean years. Like the rest of MLS.

Also agree that this is peak Vela. Issues of age and greener pastures loom.

I was thinking about Vela today and realizing that this must be what it was like for other teams when we had Landon and Keane when they were both clearly too good for the league.

On the positive side - if we go so far as to win another Cup there will be no doubt who is the number one club, past and present, and I don't mean just in LA.

Anyone heard any updates as to the status of Kaye and Zimmerman? Huge loss for them right down the spine if neither can go.

Damn straight. If we win the cup, anybody that says we didn't deserve it can bl*w me. We would have had to go through 4 of the best teams in the league and at minimum 2 of them will have best of all time records and players under their belt.

For me, LAFC is like Seattle who came into the league and immediately thought they were better then us. We upset them constantly and it took us pretty much dismantling our roster before they were finally able to have their vengeance and get the cup that we kept them from for about the 1st five years. I feel another upset is coming in less than 48 hours for LAFC.

I havent been around because im currently in Colombia but they have been broadcasting the games here. With that said Chivas 2.0 must be thinking oh no nightmare scenario lmao Galaxy is winning and Zlatan itsnt even scoring lol I guarantee he'll be scoring against LAFC. Ive been representing out here proudly wearing my LA Galaxy gear (pics to come tomorrow) and everyone out here says Zlatan is a beast. I ask if they know who Carlos Vela is and they say who ?
They also who JDS and Cristian Pavon are :). Well just wanted to pop in I have to get back to the Boca vs River Plate game. Vamos Galaxy !!!!!
