Pot 1, pot 2 it doesn't really matter what place we finish because we usually get the group of death anyway, lol.

I see it differently, whichever group gets Portugal becomes the group of death. We aren’t lock in with them, it’s that they are lock in with us! Forca!

lol a couple weeks ago when he scored his first Champions League goal he was being lauded by the Spanish press as showing why he was bought for such a large fee. A couple weeks before that they were questioning his value. A couple weeks before that when he was ripping teams to shreds in pre-season he was being lauded by the Spanish press as showing why he was bought for such a large fee. Rinse and repeat.

He's 19, just got bought by one of the biggest clubs in the world for a fee that is 10x what Man United bought Ronaldo for, a fee that is Top 5 in the entire history of the sport. On top of that, he's basically been told that his country expects him to eventually be able to ceaselessly transfer the mantle from Ronaldo, the greatest player Portugal has had and will ever have. Needless to say, I think the kid is going through quite a lot right now and poor performances can be understood and even excused.

What cannot be excused is Fernando Santos putting Joao Mario in the Starting XI. To not only disrupt the midfield that he has been successively going with in recent times but to include a player who hasn't even been good enough to get called up during said recent times boggles the mind. He actually thought Joao Mario would bring more to the team yesterday than Bruno Fernandes. Crazy.

You blame Mario? Not the guy blocking shots for Ukraine and being aimlessly offiside for no reason? At least Mario completed attacking passes and gave an outlet to players. Felix looked like he was picking flowers from the field.

And for the record I do not see anything in Bruno Fernandes to warrant his praise either.

No, I blame the coach who is inconsistent in his Starting XI and consequently disrupts the ability for this team to gather cohesiveness and chemistry, as is often the biggest detriment to a national team.

Bruno Fernandes is a much-vaunted player who is not only responsible, between his goals and assists, for most of his club's goals this season, just last season he broke the European record for goals in a season by a midfielder. Against the Dutch in the recent final, he was undoubtedly one of the best if not best players on the field so he certainly isn't a player that is consistently unable to bring his club form to the NT, as was actually the case for a long time with Bernardo Silva. And this was a final.

    'STAR MAN - Bruno Fernandes

In a team blessed with attacking talent, it was the Sporting CP man who caused the most havoc for the Netherlands with some instinctive and creative play in midfield.'

Joao Mario wishes he was in Bruno Fernandes' shoes.

    Bad news.

    William is amazing.
Also was frustrated yesterday. I take back my comments on Joao Felix.
He is a great player I am just disappointed he hasn’t performed to his ability .

    FORCA PORTUGAL.
    We will still
Qualify and be a contender !

Félix is very young, so I expected a lot of irregularity in performances. The attitude was disappointing, definitely. Still I'd be happy with him starting but sub him quickly if he doesn't put the work in.

Ronaldo also needs to have a word with him. Captains need to help the manager in getting players to put in the work. And if he doesn't learn...then bench.

William Carvalho’s surgery went well according to reports. He’s expected to miss a minimum of 3-4 months.

He'll be back in March then...leaving 2 months to get back into form before the Euros. Tight timeline.

Why not call up Eder for the next couple of
Games? He is a guy who gives 100 percent.

    minimum of 3-4 months.

More likely he will be back in May if everything goes right. Worst case scenario is he now has less hip support "Less mobility" and nerve damage "Limp and or crippled foot"

We still have Ruben Neves who can fill that DM role, although i am not sold on Neves defensive game, therefore i would agree with you.. this is very bad news.

    question for you benfica tossers
Ferro is he any good, could he be ready to line up along side
    Dias in the national team?
only thing i've seen of him was last year, his goal in the CL or it was the Europa

    I'm not benfiquista, but...here's my 2c:

Ferro is decent, with a great upside. Not as good as Ruben yet but I'd be happy to see him over Pepe with whom I lost all trust. He's given a great service to the NT but it's time to retire. Ferro and Dias could be our 2 CBs for the next decade.

They compliment each other in leading benfica to the bottom of their champions league group every season.

    Dias has performed
    Well for the seleccao though.
