I am going to sound like a hater, but I am not sure if Gabigol can replicate his Flamengo success with the Selecao as it is currently constructed and playing at this moment. Flamengo has been creating a lot of chances and giving Gabigol a lot of opportunities to score. Not saying he is a product of the system, because he still has the talent to score a golaco out of nowhere like vs Santos and has had some clinical finishes, but he is also a bit wasteful for my liking. All top strikers miss some easy chances, but I think he can work on reducing the ones he has missed for us. With the Selecao, he may not get as many chances like he does at Fla and if the wastefulness carries over, it won't sit well.

Agree. Problem is, we don't have many options. Tite needs to figure out what's the "least worst" option.

Tite might get a quick hook if he doesn't start the WCQ well. We really haven't seen a good performance since the WC. As much as I rate him as a manager, if he doesn't make adjustments, I think he is done.

I also don’t wanna sound like a hater, but this was a horrible game !
    I almost fell asleep.
The stadium was half empty !
The field was larger than the FIFA size, and the condition was atrocious.
I remember not long ago that the Brasil national team would pack any stadium in any part of the world. Is it that the Brazilian mystique is over?
As to the performance of our team, SOSO.

3 points of possible 12 from last four friendlies. Not good.

Gabriel Martinelli has had a very promising start for Arsenal. Granted, he hasn't played against the best competition (Europa League, Carabao Cup), but still, 7 goals in 7 games is impressive. It's the fastest to 7 goals since Ronaldo Fenomeno - think Gabriel has gotten it in a little over 400 minutes. Very impressive. He's phenomenal in the air and seems to be a clinical finisher, something that we lack. And, his pace is great. I don't think I've seen as promising a forward for Brazil since Pato. Hopefully, he can keep it up.

I actually wanted him to be called up already for the senior team over guys like Neres (who has had a poor start to the season) and Rodrygo (just hasn't played enough). I'm happy he at least got called up for the U23 team, but the concern is that he's also an Italian citizen and the Italian federation has already been sniffing around.

U17 plays SF vs France today. France smashed Spain in the QFs.

I find it interesting to watch these U17 games when I catch them. The tempo is pretty insane.

France up 2 x 0. They are mostly defending after the 2nd goal.

We had some clear shots but finished them poorly.

Veron ties it up. Good comeback. France went on park the bus mode after their 2nd goal.

Comeback complete. Scored the 3rd right after France scored a goal that was barely offsides. Wasn't easy, France clearly had a physical advantage but they parked the bus and gave up any attack after going up 2 x 0. After we tied it up they attacked again and almost scored twice. Needed some lucky bounces on the first 2 goals but well deserved.

    Chupa França.

Anyone see anything about friendlies in February? Brazil did play FIFA friendlies in February in the past.

I read that 2022 World Cup Qualifiying's first match date for CONMEBOL will be March 26 and then March 31.

Hahahaha, I saw what you did there.

    Senior level: 5 World Cups
    U20: 5 World Cups
    U17: 4 World Cups

Not too shabby. Nice to win a FIFA World Cup after several years. There's also the 2021 U17 and U20 World Cups, but as always, 2022 is what we want.

We face Korea tomorrow. Hopefully Tite will truly present something novel and better when Brazil returns to the pitch in March - WCQ will start then.

I have zero expectations Tite will show something that different.

It's funny pundits are already calling for Arthur's head. Not long ago he was the solution to the midfield. They change with the direction of the wind. Now the solution is Gerson. Tite needs to decide what type of game he wants to play, commit to it, and get the best players that fit that plan. He has been struggling since he lost RA.

I am also afraid some of these call ups like William are due to contractual obligations.

I unfortunately share your view re: Tite. A win vs. Korea tomorrow will do very little in terms of recovering any political capital. He earned some by winning Copa America, but 5 games without winning and 2 of them being losses make that title win a distant memory.

For some reason, Brazil now reminds me a bit of Brazil going into 2000. Just like then, Brazil had won the Copa América, but unlike then, Brazil won friendlies after that tournament. That tournament was also followed by the Confeds, which we lost 3-4 to Mexico, but with a different roster from the team that won the trophy in Paraguay.

We all expected a lot of that Brazil, but Ronaldo got injured and things went downhill fast in qualifying. Vanderlei Luxemburgo had been seen then as a much more modern and far more up-to-date manager vs. Zagallo, but he too proved to be very stubborn and his headstrong approach resulted in disaster in the Sydney Olympics. That’s when he got fired.

For Tite in 2020, Olympic gold won’t be as much of a priority; he won't even be the coach of the Olympic squad which will play the pre-Olympic competition in South America. We did win gold back in 2016 and while a second gold would be great, the priority now is to build a team for Qatar. Back in early 2000, Luxa had a friendly before the WCQ debut at Colombia, although a 7-0 victory over Thailand didn’t mean too much. But that was at least something, and Brazil had a better win-loss record post-Copa América going into 2000 than Brazil does now going into 2020. And there will be no friendlies after the match vs. Korea tomorrow until the start of WCQ.

Tite is a student of the sport and of the sport’s history, and he knows what I’ve just described better than most of us do. Like Luxa, Tite thinks very highly of his resume and like Luxa, Tite earned his credentials partly through club success (at Corinthians – both of them). And just like Luxa, Tite is stubborn and has shown he takes a long time to make adjustments.

Tite would never admit to it, but he’s probably spent some time watching Flamengo matches; will he pick some of Jorge Jesus' methods?

He has studied foreign coaches before; he did so going into 2014 post-World Cup. If, and that’s a big if, he does study enough (or has already done so and does even more), when Brazil steps onto the field to face Chile on March 26 in Santiago, the team better show it.

On a different note, 2022 WCQ will be almost identical to the last tournament; some stadiums may be different, but the schedule is the same – with the exception that this time, the 18th and final round will be in November, rather than in October.

Here is what I found for Brazil’s WCQ schedule en route to Qatar:

    March 26, 2020: at Chile
    March 31, 2020: vs. Venezuela
    September 3, 2020: at Argentina
    September 8, 2020: vs. Peru
    October 8, 2020: vs. Uruguay
    October 13, 2020: at Paraguay
    November 12, 2020: at Ecuador
    November 17, 2020: vs. Colombia
    March 25, 2021: vs. Bolivia
    March 30, 2021: at Venezuela
    June 3, 2021: vs. Argentina
    June 8, 2021: at Peru
    September 2, 2021: at Uruguay
    September 7, 2021: vs. Paraguay
    October 7, 2021: vs. Ecuador
    October 12, 2021: at Colombia
    November 11, 2021: at Bolivia
    November 16, 2021: vs. Chile
