The players aren't going to roll over. They are going to play their hearts out until relegation is inevitable. A total payroll lower than the team that's fourth in the MLS Western Conference will do it. They got £100 million in TV money and they're spending £13 million on wages. Their big signing was Josip Drmić who played 5 games last season due to injury. They are a small club but so are Bournemouth and Burnley who are spending £36,760,000 and £41,704,000 on salaries respectively, according to Spotrac. The Premier League payroll pie If they stay up, because Watford, Sheffield United and Newcastle are worse than them, it's a bonus. But good luck to them. Hopefully they'll have a hell of an academy in a year or two's time, if that's where the money is going. 16 of their players are out on loan, which is almost Chelsea-like.
How are these numbers calculated and do take into account that promoted teams' payrolls will only have increased relatively recently?
Eh, that's only because old bias keeps it from happening ... who knows what would have happened if A- the OLD OLD bowl system would have allowed for Boise St or Louisville or Tulane or UCF or TCU an any of their given Cinderella years to play and upset a top ranked team (and be able to be voted as national champion) B- The OLD Bullshit Championship Series wasn't weighted so that the Boise St or TCU or Louisville or whomever was only ever going to "get in" but not play in "the game" Now though: C- Today's system has already forced changes and given us a little bit of the old days due to big schools having to play people out of conference (Clemson/A&M - Texas/LSU etc). It's hard to hide out and unless you're running away with it you aren't guaranteed to be in the field of 4. It's better, still needs a little work, but better. Of all of it, yeah the Big Bowl money ushered in a very exclusive top end to Division 1 football. They want to hide behind the scholastic pretense and length of schedule and all that shit ... yet LITERALLY every other sport at ALL NCAA divisions and ALL football NOT in Division 1 has playoffs. It's fookin stupid.
Interesting news today. Wycombe Wanderers, owned by 800 supporters, had put their club up for sale to attract investors that can help the club move forewards (upwards of course). Dutch former superstars were interested to put in the Dutch magic, but it seems they prefer a Yank investor. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...sortium-bid-League-One-Wycombe-Wanderers.html Star-studded consortium of Dennis Bergkamp, Henrik Larsson and Dirk Kuyt 'made bid for League One Wycombe' with plan to 'catapult club into stardom'... and deal could be revived if US takeover falls through Dennis Bergkamp, Henrik Larsson and Dirk Kuyt are keen to buy an EFL club Trio are part of a consortium who made a serious bid for League One Wycombe Ronald Koeman and another former Holland star were also involved in the deal Former players had hoped to run Wycombe themselves and achieve big things However, the club's board pulled the plug on the deal to pursue another offer That's a smart move boys. Go after the money instead of knowledge.
Oh, the rare "US Money that could have gone into our pyramid going into an open one." That's gotta help your bingo cards stalled on "Cartel" and "Without MLS we'd have nothing"
I mean, he loved New Orleans enough to buy a MiLB team from Denver and bring it there. Nobody pitched reviving one of the USL hiatus teams - New Orleans Rush sounds good, doesn't it? No market ripe for carpetbagging like Chattanooga? Detroit Silver Wolves? Miami Swmp Wolves? San Diego Bay Wolves? So disappointing....
Yeah, but to get your hands on the epl bonus without sandhoppers money spending is a big lure. Anyway, you can't ptove a point in the Dutch league with stressing academy productsshould be used. The big issue I have with epl clubs is that they give almost no chances to academy players. The set up the Dutch consortium presented was exactly that, going with academy players. One of the targets the consortium had was to transfer the Dutch academy knowledge into that club. I already saw comments by readers after seeing the offer was refused to please..please buy my club.
It's getting better, see: Ross Barkley Ruben Loftus-Cheek Andreas Christensen Tammy Abraham Callum Hudson-Odoi Mason Mount Marcus Rashford Jesse Lingard Paul Pogba Timothy Fosu-Mensah Scott McTominay Andreas Pereira Héctor Bellerín Ainsley Maitland-Niles Harry Kane Harry Winks Trent Alexander-Arnold
Manchester United could be RELEGATED this season amid terrible ... https://talksport.com › football › sam-allardyce-manch... - Vertaal deze pagina 1 dag geleden - Manchester United are currently two points clear of the relegation zone ... Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Sam Allardyce reckons they could go down.
How long ago was it that a certain person told us that the top 6 fans havenot got to talk about relegation, because it's a non existent threat because money trumps merit? I was laughed at but hey a couple of months later and they are talking about it on tv and not this ignorant idiot, but insiders of the epl....Now there's someone sweating in a corner and desperately praying...buy some stars asap...buy some stars asap
However the point is stars want silverware chances as the pay is great at any top club. There comes the merit doom looking around the corner...to sign stars you not only need money, but also the prospect of hunting for glory.....After the United matcg against AZ Alkmaar fans were complaining that even for AZ players it would be uninteresting to sign for United.....Merit..Merit all the way ...and also tomorrow...not only today.
Barely 1/5th of the season played. 2 games out of 3rd. They have a +8 GD or better over 5 of the 8 teams below them. It's not even the middle of OCT. Only Liverpool and Watford have any true separation at this point. EVERYONE from 18th to 2nd is only 3 games apart. Remember a few years ago in 15/16 when Chelsea were 16th after 8 matches? How the "talk" about the possibility of relegation was drummed up by the media? How'd that work out again?
They finished TENTH! Yet it was supposed to have been impossible for them to finish outside the top 4 wasn't it? Just like it was impossible for Leicester to win the league? Or impossible for Bournemouth to stay in the Premier League? Manchester United were 'too good to go down' the last time they were relegated! So we're Spurs, two time European Champions Nottingham Forest and Europen Champions Aston Villa! (to name but a few!).
Yes, they finished 10th ... In their worst year in forever they still finished ahead of half of the league and further away from relegation (13pts) than European play qualification (12pts). You're dead set on trying to make a point against things that have not been said. EVERYONE in here has stated that anomalies happen, that one offs happen, that there will be a bad season here and there ... etc etc. Again, I ask you: Since that HIGHLY ANOMALOUS season of 15/16 what has happened in the EPL? Answer that. Manchester United last went down at the end of the 73-74' season. It's a poster example of what toxicity can do to a club ... and how exactly were they too good to go down? They'd been not very good for 5yrs prior (finished 18th the season before being relegated). ManU did win the league, but also finished in the bottom of the table as well during the 60s/70s. Maybe you should go back and check that site you keep telling me to go to. AGAIN: THE STATE OF THE GAME TODAY .... not in the 70s when ManU/Tottenham were last relegated and Nottingham won the Euros. THE GAME HAS CHANGED
This year could wind up being an anomaly and it wouldn't negate the point that the top spending teams in the EPL (and all of Euro soccer for that matter) consistently finish at the top of their respective leagues. The data is there but choosing to ignore it is pretty easy for some.
Guys the Yankees have only won 27 World Series (more than double the next best team), played in 40 World Series (double the next best team), and have won at least two World Series in every decade since it began except for the 80s (which is the only decade they haven't won one). They're the only team in baseball to have won more than three WS in a row. They've won at least won AL pennant in every decade since the 20s. They've won 23% of the WS ever They've won 34% of the AL pennants ever ... but you know they don't win every year so saying they win all the time is pretty fookin stoopid eh?
MLB is decided through playoffs so the best team over the course of a season doesn't always (probably rarely) wins. The Yankees have won 4 out of 21 titles since the luxury tax was introduced and three of those were in the first four years after the luxury tax was introduced.
