When is the roster release? I know you said it was Friday, but you can't have a YNT camp thread without someone asking if the roster has been released yet.

No uly? I think Pomykal is nursing a nagging injury so wonder if he will go.

I also don't know the latest with Servania.

Regardless, Dotson starts in the No. 6 for this team.

I am actually very, very impressed with Dotson. If he puts in the work, I can see him going far.

I would put Johan Gomez in this camp as well. He is at Porto and has already scored 1 goal in 3 games. Just wait until he catches his stride and starts to fill it up. Guys that have a knack for scoring are invaluable and he does it.

Don't get your hopes up. He's a U-20 player at the moment. I don't see him moving up the U-23s right now - except for 2024 (when he is age eligible)

I think the forwards under consideration right now are Ebobisse, Toye, Soto, Ferreira, and Haji for now. If they qualify for the Olympics, maybe Sargent

I agree but if they are calling up Uly for the U23,(not sure if they are) I put Johan there. For some reason one of if not the most prolific scorers in the entire DA for many years is not considered in that same conversation, and I think he should be. Add to the fact he is now playing at Porto in a true soccer environment and if he produces over there, move him up.

Playing "up" an Olympic cycle is very hard to do. Especially for the Olympics when the roster 18 players, including goalkeepers. The gap between an 17-18 year old and a 22-23 year old is pretty big. Sure Porto is good at development but is he going to get beyond the club's U-19 team anytime soon.

Ebobisse has 12 goals for Portland and is playing well. Toye is in a slump but has shown some big moments against good teams. Soto has a lot of momentum from the U-20 WC, knows the players, and also has a lot of DA success.

I'd just be very surprised to see Kreis looking at the 2001's and younger, unless a guy like Reyna looks like he's knocking at the door with BvB'.

just seems weird since uly has superior goal scoring stats at least in the u19s than reyna and is also older

Uly is a stud and needs to be on the squad if he is healthy enough. As a matter of fact... there are about 5 or 6 names that will probably be on this roster that should have been called up to the Nations League USMNT squad. What a joke.

I don't think the door is closed to either player. First thing though, Reyna has the U-17 WC. That'll essentially rule him out of the next 2 U-23 camps. He's running out of time.

Uly is interesting. Good winger and that position isn't all that deep on the 23's among the domestic options. The lower-tier Euro options like Sabbi and Amon are either unconvincing or oft-injured.

If he keeps blowing up at the U-19 Bundesliga level, perhaps.

Agree with you. My argument is if Uly is on the squad, Johan should be considered as well. Don't want to make it a deal between those two as they are both elite players, but the hype machine goes a long way for some.

I'm not really getting this parallel between Uly and Johan, can you elaborate? Uly plays at a position of need and has a track record of production at YNT levels, whereas Johan hasn't really been called up. And doesn't Uly have much better numbers in a better youth league?

Not making a parallel as he does play a different role but it seems Johan has gone undervalued over the last few years. He was the most prolific scorer at the vaunted FCD Academy, best 11 DA player and now plays at Porto. Most of all, he scores goals everywhere he goes, at the DA level, at the NTXSC level the few times he played there, and now getting started at Porto. I am not sure if FCD offered a pro deal or he turned one down, but I would argue he has as much upside or more than Ferrarie and Pepi at FCD. Those two got the attention while Johan scored goals. If there was a hype machine behind him like some of these other players, folks would be clamoring for his inclusion as well.

But to the poster above, they have some regular MLS starters as forwards for the 23s but Johan could be given a shot on the team and a spot to come off the bench. Particularly if we are including other 01s.

There's no reason for Johan Gomez to be playing above his age group. I don't see what he's shown thats so great for him to be playing up an age group. There might be no 01's playing in the U-23's. Why has Gomez all of a sudden become the best '01 and then a player worthy of playing up an age group? It doesn't make much sense, IMO.

I would hope Sam Vines finally gets a U23 look this camp.

Would also like to see NCFC's DJ Taylor get an invite. Over 60 USL starts the past two seasons. Let's see how he compares to MLS kids.

I based it completely on production and goal scoring ability. There is no dispute he has been the most prolific goal scorer at FCD over the last few years. That's not subjective.

If someone had posted on here every weekend for the last three years with highlights of all his goals, (Johan scores again, Johan with 20 goals in 15 games, Johan scores against Real Madrid in Generation Adidas, Johan leads FCD U19 DA for second year in a row) I think the attitude about him may be different. Fairly certain if was a Kleiban kid, twitter would be screaming for him to be in all these camps.

A proven goal scorer is one of, if not the, most valuable position on the field. Tons of teams can maintain possession, work the ball around, defend etc. It's what happened in the 18 yard box that makes a team deadly and you have to have a goal scorer to do that. Johan has been that player his entire career at FCD and anywhere he has been tested.

The u23s have a ton of guys and probably no 01s should be considered for that team. I tend to think, based upon production, Johan is one of if not the best 01 goal scorers oi the country. Will see how he does at Porto but off to a good start.

Hoppe scored more. He's not playing with the U-23's, nor should he be. The strikers in contention for the U-23's (Sargent, Weah, Soto, Ebobisse, Toye, Wright, Ferreira, Vazquez) are all full-time professional footballers. There's no sense in promoting Gomez or any of the other strikers below the '00 age group.

We'll see how Gomez, Hoppe and other strikers develop their games over the next year or two. Gomez certainly has a chance to play at the U-20 WC in two years.
