Here's your all-purpose thread/sticky for generic YA news -- odd "Whatever happened to..." questions and posts, questions, and other stuff you just aren't quite sure what to do with.

    Here's last season's:

Here's an archive of YA "All About..." threads (they used to be much more interesting and active, worth a look if you want to see some blasts from the past):

Here's the Detective Work thread if you're interested in researching guys who might be Yanks Abroad:

And the obligatory old-school photo. If you know who this is, you will definitely date yourself.

I'll have some more guidance from my immigration law firm later, but this isn't really anything that is going to change the citizenship status. There's a lot of misinformation in the 1st cut of articles.

    Here's the general provision:

The rule clarifies that it only affects children not entitled to U.S. citizenship by birth—meaning that if a child is born abroad to parents who were citizens at the time of its birth, the child would still be recognized as a birthright citizen (although not always). The policy would also not effect a child born to a U.S. citizen parent who has had residence in the United States before the child’s birth.

That's not 100% accurate, but good enough for initial discussions.

Just to clarify, Benjamin Mendy is not African-American (or American for that matter). Seems the AP wasn't thinking clearly in their original tweet.

That's what happens when we choose a label for something (race) that describes something else (place of origin).

A good example of how hard it is to make the 1st squad at a big club:

U.S.-raised, T&T-born, and I haven't looked into citizenship closely yet:

Rogers moved to the United States from Trinidad at age 7. When he graduated from Elmont High School in 2013, he moved to England, where he played for the Eccleshill United Football Club, progressing to the division below the professional level before being offered regional contracts in Spain.

He signed with professional soccer club UD San Pedro’s reserve team in 2015, and played for Division Three and Four soccer teams in Spain over the next three years, while also attending Marbella United Football Academy’s professional preparatory program. There he met Coach Alexandar Mutavdzic, who taught Rogers many of the technical aspects of the sport that children in Spain learn at a young age. “He’s a hard-working boy who made huge progress,” Mutavdzic said of Rogers.

He went on to become the third-highest scorer in the Spanish Football League’s Fourth Division in the 2017-18 season, and was offered a professional contract with the Annagennisi Karditsas Football Club in Greece in 2018.

Rogers, however, broke his kneecap in a charity game in England before he could sign with the Greek team. So he returned home to Elmont and spent all of last year recovering.

Here's a tweet noting that a guy who works for a San Diego youth club has been named a scout for Necaxa.

A '97 named Shadi Atassi was at Real Avilés for the 2019/20 season and may or may not still be there.

It’s an honor just to be nominated.

If we win we should thank the academy, our agents and tell the kids (if they are watching) to go to bed. Also, we should apologize if we forget to thank anyone.
