    Which 3?

Jardim at Monaco has switched formation. Gelson Martins has been deployed as a right wing back in a 3-5-2 system. Perhaps Santos can use Martins in a similar role in the future?

I would like to see Portugal line up in a 3-5-2 , something like:

    ———————Patricio——————
    ————-Fonte—-Dias——Pepe——-
    R.Pereira——Danilo—-William—-Guerreiro
    ————————B.Silva—————-
    ——————-Felix——Cr7

This would be a very flexible
Tactic. The wing bangs can push forward to provide width when in possession, with Danilo sitting back ready to fall into the defensive line to form a 4 man defence if we get caught out in transition. The system would also allow Bernardo Silva a lot of freedom to attack and support Cr7 and Felix.

I really think it’s worth a try with the current players.

If it’s a wind up, he must be Z?

Man, i do not mean to be disrespectful at all.. but what is your logic behind these selections/formation?

I mean, ultimately.. none of this will happen. Portugal are Euro champs, Nations League champs and have since gotten back on track in their qualifying campaign. F.Santos isnt going to change too much either with the formation or line up. Why does he need to? Its been working for the most part.

Certainly, there are some questions with the d-line but the solutions likely will not come from a new players inserted into the team... i mean, the R.Semedo addition you included is just one of the wildest things i have seen in a while.

No disrespect taken. I believe in freedom of speech. However, I should point out the fact that I study football tactics in depth during my spare time.

I strongly believe my 3-5-2 tactic would fit this Portugal side like a glove. Especially with the wingbacks pushing up and Danilo dropping back to D when necessary.

Rúben Semedo is very promising as a CB. He has the physicality and technique.

Yes Portugal is nations league and euro cup
Champs. It is a great time to be a Portugal fan.

Our next game is against Luxembourg which is an easy game in theory. Santos should use it as a game to test new things and experiment. I would elect to field an ultra attacking side , especially since goal difference might be key in this group.

    vs. Luxembourg
3-5-2 like Jardims Monaco or scolaris Brazil 2002, with attacking
    Wingbacks

    ———————Patricio—————
    ————Pepe——Dias—-Ferro————
    G.Martins——————————-Guerreiro-
    ————————William——————
    ——————Lameiras—-Bernardo——
    -Guedes——————Felix—————CR7

We are 2nd in the group. This is not a time to be experimenting with new players, lineups or tactics. The job of qualification is not complete. Santos will stick with what has been working.

Absolutely delighted to see Ruben Semedo called up. Thoroughly deserved.

Amazing ! 8 players formed in Sporting academy. Btw , Joao Mario still has quality. He looked great for locomotive Moscow in the champions league.

    Welcome back João Mario!
Also, who else is excited to see Bruma back in the fray?

My main grievance is not seeing Gelson Martins. He has been electric with Monaco and can play RB if called upon.

Based on this team, I would go with:

    Vs Luxembourg 3-5-2

    ————————Patricio—————-
    —————Dias—-Pepe—-Fonte
    Pereira————William————-Guerreiro
    —————Bernado-B.Fernandes
    —————-Felix———CR7

    Vs Ukraine 4-4-2

    Pereira———-Dias—-Semedo*—M.Rui
    —————-William—-Danilo————-
    JMario———————————B.Silva
    ——————Felix—-CR7

*i would start Ruben Semedo against Ukraine. They are a tough physical side and we need someone strong and virile to counter them.

Usually I agree with the Santos call ups, but Bruma is a huge head scratcher. Lost his starting spot at PSV and hasn't done anything of note for awhile.

I think he’s just rotating those non guaranteed squad positions to keep the fringe players motivated. I actually think it’s not a bad ploy if that’s the case

    Hmm. Makes sense.
    Think you might be right.

Leao and gelson Martins should have been called. Other than that I’m fine with it.

Anyone see Joao Mario against atletico ? He looks like he has been lifting.

I don't like N. Semedo. He was bad defensively his last time with N.T. Why also take R. Pereira over Cancelo? He is also a defensive risk. You would thing he would want these guys playing together more often so they can get used to each other rather that switch guys in and out for every game they play.

Also don't understand taking Pizzi. He has never looked good playing for the N.T. R. Sanches dropped again. Don't understand Santos' logic.

Ricardo is considered a top 3 rb in the premier league. Why would sanches even be called? And ya Pizzi is trash but he wont play so who cares

Our midfield is incredibly average I don't know why everyone keeps pointing to the defense.

If you consider Bernardo S. as a forward. Then I don't think any of our midfielders would crack into the starting lineup of Spain, France, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands. So yes very average. But the defense has not been good, especially since Pepe has been missing from it and may never be the same anymore as he once was plus not too many trust Fonte.

That’s not good, especially since Danilo’s form/attitude has been awful recently for Porto

I was pleased to see Joao Mario get the call. Watching the Lokomotiv-Atletico match last week I thought to myself that he'd be back on the NT soon, but didn't realize it'd be this soon. He looked good on the ball and provided all of Lokomotiv's excellent, dangerous passes throughout the match.

Regarding RB, Pereira is now widely recognized as an absolute terror for opponents to deal with. He's a top performer in the EPL week in and week out, yet has barely had a chance for the NT. Meanwhile, Cancelo has only just started seeing the field for Man City (and he even played LB on the weekend, FWIW) and before last week hadn't started a match aside from vs. Preston North End.

Santos has shown recently that he is going to call up the players who are in form and playing regularly for their club. He has that luxury because the current pool of players from which he draws is pretty loaded, especially at certain positions. Not calling up Pereira now would be a huge mistake.

I agree. Joao Mario has been fantastic for Moscow, including against Atletico Madrid.

Imo he was superb at Euro 2016, and a key player for the team.

Ricardo has been unfairly shunned from the team since being thrown in at the deep end against Uruguay. He’s been absolutely brilliant for Leicester and is one of the best full backs in the league, a league in which Cancelo has one start to his name. It’s the right call

    Ricardo is quite overrated.
Cedric Soares deserves more appreciated. Solid player who was key in 2016.

I agree that Cedric was underrated as RB for Portugal. But there's always someone to complain regardless of who fills that spot.

When Cedric was starting every match, the complaint was that he didn't provide enough to the attack. Now people are saying Ricardo Pereira, who has played in one competitive match for Portugal (I repeat: ONE...COMPETITIVE...MATCH...), is overrated/a liability even though he is literally one of the best players in the Premier League and has never gotten a legit shot for Portugal.

Prior to the Uruguay match, RP had totaled 126 minutes across four friendlies for Portugal. He has played 0 minutes since, a time during which he has become a highly, widely admired PL player and has WAY MORE than earned a spot on this team and a chance to play.

1 match and he was mostly
Responsible for a premature World Cup exit. Although Uruguay were good, we were better and should have won if we had competent defending.

Hopefully he can integrate into the team and grow with them. I have a feeling that Santos will stick with Ricardo Pereira if he keeps his form up with Leicester.
