Did you see that at the halftime celebration? How did she appear to be moving? Hope it's not serious.
Jenna is fine. The boot is just precautionary. She will be playing vs. Clemson. I believe Kirsten will be okay as well but I have direct assurance that Jenna will be on the field for Clemson.
Looks like Gabby will miss the Pitt and maybe VT games. Congrats to her! https://www.canadasoccer.com/canada...nal-friendly-match-in-japan-p162384-preview-1
As will Heather Payne: https://www.fai.ie/ireland/news/vera-pauw-names-her-first-squad-ahead-of-euro-2021-qualifier
I just got a chance to watch the game in its entirety. FSU was the better side, but CU is legit. As has been mentioned, they model themselves after UNC, but not quite as many UNC caliber players. They are definitely a legit top 15 team IMO, maybe even top 10. The 2 goals we scored were sublime. We had several other chances that were very close to the same. Kmac stole a ball deep and passed to a diagonally attacking Jenna, who just missed it. Someone crossed a ball from the right to Deyna who also just missed it. Deyna sent in a couple of balls in the 2nd half that were inches away from being awesome! This offense is as dynamic as any I've seen at FSU, and that is without a high pace player up top. They are better IMO than any team we've had at creating good chances in heavily populated defensive spaces. A lot of the credit for that goes to Deyna, Yujie and Jenna. Once again, I've been impressed with the progress I've seen out of Kmac. Now if we can get Heather to not do 2 or so baffling give aways a game. The set piece defense is still shoddy, and while she played well for the most part, CJ once again punched a ball that she should have caught. Baffling!!! It didn't hurt us, but it could have. Catch the darned ball CJ! Don't know why we didn't see Clara. She's been solid in wide MF IMO. I will say that Abby is showing a little more aggressiveness lately. That pass to Deyna was a thing of beauty.
There were multiple times in run of play where 21 players on the field were within 30 yards of Syracuse's goal. SU wasn't even challenging the ball until the final third for much of the game.
Lots of that going around. Duke played five at the back against Virginia. Midway through the first half Virginia must have had 80% of the possession. The game went into OT and the game opened and Duke had two breakaways (footspeed is going to be the Cavs undoing this year) that they squandered. So, yeah, bunkering worked for Duke. You and I should expect a lot more of that this season.
I would guess that, while not identical, UVA, Stanford and FSU are the 3 upper echelon schools that emphasis ball control and possession to create chances. There may be more, but those three jump to my novice mind. What would you call UCLA? PSU? I'm putting USC and UNC in the attacking from the get go more direct style. Feel free to add to or correct as needed.
Defensive footspeed and tactical naivete...yes. You cannot continue to have your CBs try to break lines by dribbling and not get burned. This formation needs a CDM who will think defense first once a CB steps into midfield or much better decision making wrt to passing from the back 4. Too many sloppy passes. UVA are also very vulnerable to the high ball.
UVA have a lot of possession in nonthreatening areas....across the back 4. Teams sit so deep because of UVAs offensive footspeed wide. I think all these schools are happy to crate chances any way they can. UNC can certainly play bat a faster pace based on how they tend to sub. It also is a reflection on what you recruit. of the schools you list, you could argue that FSU and UVA are the least athletic.
Stanford shoots like a machine gun with the trigger stuck. UCLA's losses were to two teams that were really pissed and were going to take it out on their next opponent which happened to be UCLA. They (UCLA) pass with surgical precision but so far the goals haven't always come, both losses were shutouts. They outplayed California but Cal's goalkeeper is a tall octopus with lightning quick reaction time, she just doesn't get scored on. I won't see USC, probably will miss Stanford at Colorado because I moved 250 miles away from Boulder, but I will see Colorado at UCLA on October 10, A common characteristic of the top teams I have seen not in person, is the ability to pass quickly and accurately.
https://www.ncaa.com/rankings/soccer-women/d1/ncaa-womens-soccer-rpi Good news for FSU. RPI #1. I believe that the RPI is a key component come NCAA tournament seeding. If I'm wrong, let me know. The advantage of playing a tough OOC schedule along with the ACC. Due to the Magic 8 ball scheduling of the ACC, we play UNC, UVA and Duke. I have no complaints! To be the best, you have to play the best. Meanwhile, back at the ACC scheduling department, UNC and UVA do not play for the 2nd straight year. I understand a 1 year hiatus, in an effort to play all teams, but there is no excuse to miss playing another team 2 straight years.
