My dad told me my Italian grandmother, who was born in Abruzzo, spoke a dialect that would not be understandable to anyone who spoke "proper" Italian. :)

My mom is from Abruzzo and my dad was from Calabria. Depending on the area of the region all dialects differ from town to town. My mom's hometown is right on the Lazio border and her Abruzzese dialect is closer to modern Italian than the Calabrese one. Still , they aren't the same as the main language.

So the team with professional players is winning. There's a strategy for you.

Michigan Stars haven't updated their website since June and Facebook says their next game is against Cosmos on August 31.

The Cosmos site says you can stream the game live.

Milwaukee's site doesn't mention the Member's Cup but it does have the "Founders'" Cup table.

So their social media effort is going swimmingly.

This is strange since one would think they would want to celebrate the paradigm disrupting Member's Cup in every way possible. There is certainly a fantastic sponsorship opportunity staring them right in the face. They even share the same ethos!

Speaking of the Founders Cup... anyone know what happened to Albion SC in San Diego? They were all poised to make that move and now they’ve vanished from it like a fart in the wind.

They apparently decided not to pursue it. Their regular season NPSL team made it to the national semifinals before getting beat by the Cosmos.

The originally announced NPSL Founders Cup list of teams:

    New York Cosmos
    Chattanooga FC
    Miami United FC
    Milwaukee Torrent
    Detroit City FC
    Miami FC.
    ASC San Diego
    Cal FC
    California United Strikers FC
    FC Arizona
    Oakland Roots

Four of those teams made to the Members Cup along with additions Napa Valley and Michigan Stars.

Miami FC, Cal United, and Oakland are playing the NISA Showcase this fall.
Detroit and Chattanooga will also be switching to NISA next spring.

    I'd forgotten about Members Only.

The one tidbit I really ever knew was that MO was very popular with the Mafia. There was even a reference made to it in a Sopranos episode.

All the cool kids in my Junior High had Members Only jackets. (According to google the jacket was introduced into the U.S. in 1980).

I remember having a jacket of that style, though I honestly can't remember if it was a real Members Only or a knockoff. Given the prices, it was probably a knockoff.

Google Napa Valley 1839 and see what it says in the results if you would like a bit of a chuckle.

    Yeah, I had a Members Only-like jacket, not a real one. So I guess I wasn't really a member.

It is an amazing story. Some parts wonderful in what we've learned, some parts tragic in the history of mistreatment of poor and minority persons.

I had a knockoff, because of the idiotic pricing for MO.

The new competition will run March-April, break for the traditional summer season May-August, and then resume August-November. They say that teams that play in this new season will be expected to participate in the summer season.

They say that this is completely separate from the Members Cup teams.

If you could make upgrades to your league's professionalism (not involving paying players) just like that, why wouldn't you just apply that to your existing league?

The idea that this will bring serious investors out of the woodwork is NPSL-level silly.

So be really upgraded from March to April, go back to being your usual NPSL level of shitty in the summer, then go back to being a grown-up in the fall? Okay, Sparky.

Is it exploitation to have unpaid amateurs play for 9 months straight?
