No longer a Barça lounger: Sergiño Dest at PSV (olf FC Barcelona)

  1. We did win, as first European nation since the , the World Champions title by beating super power Cuba in the 2011 final of the World Baseball Classic under Yank coach Brian Farley.

It’s because he has a pulse and has played left back more than once.

That we’re posters on a message board and not professional coaches?

I'm stuck in the wissels with you!

Dest and Pierie on the AjaxA bench today v. Heerenveen. (1/2 our backline of the future!!)

I was in Amsterdam last year and saw more people playing catch in the park than hitting a soccer ball around. I thought it was surreal. They didn't look American, either, though I didn't ask.

    This. Is. Insanity.

He’s better than 2 of Pulisic, McKennie, and Adams??????

I do think he has better technical skills/technique going forward on the ball than Adams or McKennie. But is he a "better player..." That's a different kettle of mackerel...

Dest has lots of upside due to his ball control, quickness and vision. But there is more to being an exceptional pro than those attributes (though they are really huge to have, of course.) Time will tell.

Watch if van Rhinj gets off the bench for Heerenveen today. He was 1st choice Oranje Sr. team for about 8 games... and is now rotation for 'veen. We sometimes underestimate all that must go right for a promising player to reach the top and stay there.

Of interest today: Vletman back to RB. (I'm guessing the thought is just Dest is tired after his play and flight, but Vletman has been playing RB and CD. He turned down an EPL move earlier this year.

I'm not going to bother with a game day thread unless Dest or Pierie get in. I'll keep half an eye on the game, in case.

Quite a few of our game day threads are for guys who never left the bench.

If folks are watching and want to do PBP, knock yourselves out. I'm not going to PBP unless one of them gets in, however.

Not a bet I would make, but he might just be. His ball skills are subtly awesome.

And as a defender he’s a turnstile. A young turnstile who will certainly improve (or be moved to the midfield) but a turnstile nonetheless.

If you can handle the morning wood I’m about to create...Gareth Bale began his pro career as a fullback.

Haha, pump your brakes you little mynx. Bale is also a freakishly good athlete, combining power, pace, and size with great ability and mentality. Dest is very quick but will never have the tools Bale has. Doesn't mean he can't one day play for a team like Real Madrid but we're talking about two different player types entirely

This might be Dest's best game yet. 2-1 Heerenveen (Odgaard x2) despite Ajax having 70% of the ball...

And Dest comfortably resting on the bench.

(my bad, read it wrong. 2-1 Ajax. Odgaard with 1 goal - what I get for only half paying attention.)

    Goal for Ajax LB tagliafico

That's what confused me. LB Traficone gets a 2nd Schuur as well. Defenders on a scoring rampage... Heerenveen looking at other season of suck. Not a good game for Dest or Pierie at this point.
