Even though we only have 1/3 of the potential American contingent in this game, I'll have it on. Kickoff is at 2:30 PM Eastern on FS2. Dieses Team schicken wir heute Abend auf die Wiese 🔴⚪️💪🏻 #f95 #F95WOB pic.twitter.com/IPrTN9XsaQ— Fortuna Düsseldorf (@f95) September 13, 2019
Our starting wolves against @f95 💪🐺 #F95WOB pic.twitter.com/Bb8HTxSDte— VfL Wolfsburg US 🇬🇧🇺🇸 #GetENwithUS (@VfLWolfsburg_US) September 13, 2019 Here is Wolfsburg's line up without Brooks
I don't know if I'm Morales or Brooks that I'm accepting another call up for meaningless friendlies in North America during the season. Too disruptive on the body. I'd concentrate on staying fit for my paying job.
3': calamity in the box as a Fortuna defender clears off a Wolfsburg attacker and the ball bounces back toward goal. Steffen closes the space well to make a desperation save on a desperation shot, and the rebound is pushed wide.
If I'm Morales I want to take the opportunities I can get to try and impress GB. He hasn't had much opportunity with the Nats.
16': GOLAZO 1-0 to Fortuna on an absolute laser from Giesselmann following an overhit cross. VAR review about whether the ball went out of play first though. Goal stands! Video: https://streamja.com/RO0k
“The goalie gave us a victory sign, so we gave him some toilet roll ...” 🎶 Fortuna Düsseldorf #ultras keeping it old school at home to Wolfsburg tonight.#f95wob pic.twitter.com/6koAFEaDza— Matt Ford (@matt_4d) September 13, 2019
Rooting hard for Fortuna and not just because of Steffen: they're one of the last clubs in top Euro leagues to refuse getting a sugar daddy, and to me that has a big ethical value.
Goal for Wolfsburg. Break down on Dusseldorf's left side. Wolfsburg Brekalo beats his player gets to the end line and sends a cross on the ground that is easily finished by Weghorst
29': Wolfsburg goal, 1-1 Good passing move from a throw-in, then Brekalo megs Bormuth wide, puts in a low, driven cross for Weghorst who sidefoots a first-time finish through Steffen's legs. Looks kind of bad, but it would have been extremely fortunate had Steffen actually saved it. His positioning as the cross came in was a little bit off though. Video: https://streamja.com/n5eO
Now that's how you start a @Bundesliga_EN matchday! 🚀 Niko Gießelmann fires Düsseldorf into the lead from a tough angle. #F95WOB pic.twitter.com/QLLsb9eYkY— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) September 13, 2019
45+2': Steffen goes to his right to make a diving save on a low Weghorst shot that may have taken a deflection. Rebound is cleared, and a subsequent header is sent wide of goal. HT: Fortuna Dusseldorf 1 - 1 Wolfsburg Steffen has 3 saves.
Steffen's distribution today is a world better than it was against Mexico. Speaks ill of the US's tactical set-up.
All tied up! Weghorst slots it home after some great work from Brekalo to get @VFLWolfsburg_US level. #F95WOB pic.twitter.com/oUvRC9fpYm— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) September 13, 2019
86': weird sequence as Dusseldorf completely falls asleep on a free kick from near midfield. The ball was played directly in, about 40 yards, on the ground, with a cross falling to Gerhardt about 5 yards from goal. Much like his first save, Steffen closed the space well, and the shot bounced off the inside of his right calf and deflected wide right of the goal for a corner.
5 saves for Steffen to only 2 for Pervan, Fortuna getting outshot at home 15/6-11/3 by the Volkswagens. Steffen has had a decent game, all things considered.
