https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/09/13/chicago-fire-announce-ownership-change-and-relocation Free at last. Free at last. The Chicago Fire are free at last.
I looked at the push notification from the app and was somehow surprised by that. HauptmanOut has been achieved.
Great news for Chicago. Apparently Mansueto wants to keep the name Fire, so if there is a rebrand it will be probably only to the crest.
Personally I find it hard to conceive how you keep the name but change that crest without making it worse. That crest is among the best in the league, I feel - Unique among peers, apt for the name, and done without any cartoonish flair. So if they go that route I hope they do so with great care.
Are we sure this new guy is better than the old guy or is it just going to be more of the same? At least he's a billionaire...
He's already put up major $$ to break the Bridgeview lease. The importance of that cannot be understated.
this guy has a cost basis in the hundreds of millions, as opposed to $35 million. have to think hes for real. lets see if he fires nelson rodriguez in the next 15 minutes so we can know for sure tho
I'd pile on but my team is currently staring three seasons out of the playoffs square in the face so...
Congrats to the Fire fans. As much as Mansueto has invested, he seems unlikely to be an absentee owner like Hauptman.
Because of their recent failure to suck epic donkey balls on the pitch, Philly seems to be doing better business, but it would be useful if other big market teams could get going. So good for Chicago. Houston, we have a problem.
Considering he's paid $400 million to buy the team (vs. $35 million what Hauptman paid), bought out the remaining lease at Seat Geek Stadium ($60.5 million) and is moving the team back to the city (Soldiers Field) which isn't going to be cheap. So he's invested almost a half of a billion dollars since last July. If he's going to sit on his ass and do nothing it's going to FAIL miserably.
The number of fans who assume he's going to just sit on his ass after dumping a shit ton of money into the team has been baffling to me this season.
