Saw this and creeped him on Twitter lol. Doesn't have anything Sockers in his bio but his posts are mostly Sockers. Looks to be very busy. Actually has some good takes on a number of things. For a guy I'd never heard of up until around this time last year he does look the part on social media at least. Some others I've spoken with have said they really like him too. It seems like theres such a shortage of good young coaches in Chicago. Like I can't think of a younger guy that's really broke thru in forever. All the old guard seem to have it locked down. Same guys for the last 15+ years. Its like Chicagoland has gone stale. I feel like we need more new blood. Guys that can bring some new ideas and challenge the status quo.
Jaguars are definitely closer to Varder than Hawks or Nationals. And like Nationals, they have issues keeping some of their top kids from playing on the MRL team after committing as evidenced by their 0-11, at U19, to a watered down Nationals DA team (but I understand that the game was a lot closer than the score). Jags did manage to snatch one of the four other games- so there is hope. EGA and KCA are not deal with this and clearly better now- not during the Obama administration.
is there some kind of news letter you all subscribe to for this stuff? its remarkable how much you know about the chicago girls soccer landscape. how do you even find out this information?
This is newsletter I think many of us have been around the block - know coaches, been to multiple clubs as parents, coaches and more. Being a coach I can tell you that news travels VERY fast - shit comes back if you are not careful - it's a much smaller world then what most parents think. My youngest started at Magic when she was 4 - Sockers by 6 and really only 1 player who she started with is still there - well 2, one came back from Eclipse this season and plays 2003. The rest have all gone to other clubs, Eclipse, FCU, Crystal Lake Force, FCX, Hawthorn Woods, Team Chicago and more. Parents stay in touch and those who know about the sport always have a good deal of information. A good deal also comes when parents leave clubs like Eclipse, FCU and Sockers - where everyone is fearful of speaking up as it may impact where their player ends up. When those parents leave, a lot of info spills out that they would not have said while at the club.
Looks like the Eclipse Crosstwon Classic got delayed a week.... more time for NB to charge those batteries.
Can be tricky figuring out what info is actually truth and what's just perception or opinion when it comes from parents. Especially the ones who leave a club. All you'll hear is the bad and not the good. Heres the most common thing I hear from other parents: Communication is bad. I will admit that its a problem with almost all soccer clubs and coaches but you'll only hear about it when there's a problem on the field like their player got cut or isn't playing much. Most of what I hear is thru the grapevine. Coached on and off for a local club for 7 years made some friends in that circle. Dating myself here but played high level club 16 years ago and some of my old teammates now coach. Luckily got myself out of that coaching life for the sake of starting a family. Coaching is not an easy lifestyle especially if you want to actually make livable wages.
I generally confirm through contacts close or in those clubs. I don't want to ruin some coaches life. I also think I agree to the good. Frankly I don't see people here on a witch hunt. At least not yet.
Plausible... the 06 coach has how many teams? All six games were postponed. The online wagering sites are doing well earning the float. I'm not sure these games will ever be played, postponed twice now. Hope he/she is recovering well.
ECNL rules say they have to be played and pretty early in the season so the clubs with 2 teams don’t play games with the results that would impact standings. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if they try to not play them.
The games were moved to next week for a few different reason. One was NB had two games in Michigan and got back late Sunday. Separate thought: getting to NB for a 6pm game on a weeknight is going to suck. Better leave by 3:30 if you live south of 88 and want to warm up
I think 2168 and 2170 are pretty clear where I stand. I think that NB will be a better club in 2-3 years - too early for that just yet however.
Clear as mud. Obvious NB will get better in time. I don’t think many disagree. But are you saying that NB will ‘be better’ than OB in 2-3 years?
I don't disagree that its possible in the long-term with all the problems in OB. But take a look at the way the rosters changed from last year: a lot of the weaker players from OB ended up on the NB rosters while the top players from NB ended up in OB. For whatever reason there's still a pull in OB for individual talent even with all the negativity. While NB is designing this wonderful program on paper with "nutritionists" (lol) and having "college connections" its still the experience on the field that's gonna make or break them. Come December it'll be a lot clearer.
I don’t think you can count FC United out on girls side either (not that anyone is). Back to DA/ECNL debate I’m betting the DA pull becomes stronger and stronger as they figure it out and perception shifts to it being more and more the pinnacle (USWYNT farm teams). Convinced that’s a headwind for Eclipse anyway you slice it. Girls or boys.
No no and ...no. 1- uswnt does not care if a girl plays da or ECNL. The one local 05 member just went from da to ECNL this year. 2- even if that were remotely true, about 30 girls per age group are in gnt pools vs the 2250 girls per age group play da/ECNL and matriculate to college each year. So for the other 98%, I am not sure matters a lick.
You're not wrong but it goes beyond just playing time and resources. You can look at so many clubs that have playing time in an elite platform and resources that still don't have it together. Campton DA and Eclipse Solar last year are perfect examples. Just planting a flag in the ground with ECNL or DA isn't enough to have a good program. Resources and super communication isn't enough either. The guys with the boots on the ground are the ones that make or break a program. How quickly we forget that CS wasn't the only one fired from FCU for inappropriate behavior. He was high profile but JS was let for for the same reason albeit a different situation.
I agree but frankly I would not put the crew with boots on the ground in OB in my top 10. There are few decent coaches there these days. Better at NB? Likely not but really not that much of a difference. JS can be good but he does has his flaws and I know what you are refering to. It really will come down to who they bring in over the next 2-3 seasons IMO. Of course OB could make similar changes as well but I think they will still lack other crucial resources.
