I'd not seen that when I was in school (as there were surely a lot of drunken idjots at tOSU then too), but do recall folks walking across the Olentangy in winter when I was in school. The talk also was, in those days (late 70s-early 80s), that if you fell in, they would pump your stomach, just to be safe.... But that may have been an urban legend. The river is a lot cleaner than it used to be--I've seen at least one beaver swimming under the Lane Ave bridge.

From my memory of the original renderings shown they had a very short period (maybe weeks?) to put together a rendering and it was known to have been rushed.

The Downtown Commission is scheduled to meet on September 24th. Last month we learned that the team would be presenting their plans to the Downtown Commission during the September meeting. As such, I would assume we will see renderings no later than the 24th.

This is going off memory and most likely off by a lot but....I seem to recall NRI has an architectural vision for what the Arena District is to look like as a whole. The stadium and apartments/condos are the last piece. They want it all to fit together and throwing a space ship into the mix might not be in their vision.

I could be wrong and most likely am but from what people are saying, the Space Force renderings sound amazing.

Reading this thread I feel like a young boy who is listening to some teenagers wax about what a naked girl looks like and that they saw them in magazines in their dads closet - only to realize my dad didn't have a closet.

Storefront in late September and groundbreaking in early October was what I heard from Bez at the STM event mid-summer.

As a person who doesn't live in or near Columbus, i still try to keep up with major development news in the cities in this region. I havent seen anything mentioned yet that a bridge across the Scioto to Franklinton is in the works. It's a great idea though.

The pedestrian bridge that is happening is indeed the Olentangy one, which really only helps to serve access to the Olentangy Trail (though that could be a good link to the northern neighborhoods for bicyclists)

The Olentangy link will be great, in terms of general 365 day use, but I doubt it'll do much to enhance connectivity to the stadium for Crew games, which almost always end after dark. The bike trail isn't lighted. And that area of the trail isn't its safest stretch. Obviously, it doesn't provide access to any additional parking.

Anyway, here's what the city said about the Scioto bridge in 2010:

You can see renderings here (pp. 66-67):

    https://www.columbus.gov/uploadedFi...Library_Documents/PDFs/2010 DCSP 12 Ideas.pdf

The arguments in favor of this bridge are exponentially greater than they were in 2010. When I've seen this referred to, by the way, it's always been a "City" responsibility. Here, for example:

    https://issuu.com/mksk/docs/2010_downtown_columbus_strategic_plan/8

Well, we should know more soon, I suppose.

I have a hard time believing we won't get a pedestrian bridge built across the Scioto at some point, given the recent completion of the National Veterans Memorial, the ever increasing number of developments in Franklinton, and the project (pictured below) about to get underway next spring on the Scioto Peninsula.

There is already good connectivity across the river into the center of downtown via the Broad Street bridge, and to the River South district via Rich and Main Street bridges. The city will need one connecting to the Arena District to be fully connected across the river.

Looking at the map, nationwide probably should have been extended across the river--except for that pesky interchange there. That intersection took a lot of work to become more or less workable in the first place. Extending Neil south might have worked, but there are a lot of tracks in the area. But a pedestrian bridge there? Maybe.

(For those who don't want to scroll through the whole document.)

This seems fine. I'd like to hear the reasoning behind the location/length of the bridge.

Generally, when cities strive for something "iconic", they think they're going to get the next cool sculpture or structure thing but then end up with something like:

    or this

I'd prefer they just focus on making it as functional as possible and design the aesthetics to fit the surroundings.

One would hope so. Honestly, this peek-a-boo with the renderings is, if not unprofessional then at least not smart.

It makes it seem like there's a favored group whose money is somehow more important to the management than the thousand-to-two thousand I myself spend with them year after year. If you're going to show it, show it. If you're not, then don't. That's fine. But it's beginning to seem like the same old Crew, where certain people got favored treatment depending on what dicks they sucked.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting things, and if so I apologize, but even if it's not true, allowing it to look that way is a bad way to handle things. I thought Bez was smarter than that.

I suppose that's one way to look at it.
