Yeah, agreed. Reminds me of the ole "Morales wasn't good in 2015, no reason to call him up now!" A few posters have mentioned here that Alvarado has been good-to-excellent recently in Mexico, and maybe even captaining his side? I don't follow the league at all, but would be interested in hearing more about his performances, and certainly getting him back into camp at some point (if he can surpass Omar). He was horrid when Klinsy tried him out (one of his bold moves that failed, though I appreciated the effort), but certainly would like to see him again if he deserves it, especially considering he is only 27.

Chandler was never going to be good enough to play for Germany and Jonathan Gonzalez switched to play for Mexico and then was left off the World Cup roster.
It’s sad that I’m scared of losing to Canada, and that I, am looking up these scores. Canada only won 1-0 away today, Canada had a red card a bit into the 2nd half. That, combined with their win at home puts them at a GD of +7. With how shit we are, I wouldn’t be surprised if we lose to them in Toronto. I suppose a draw would be nice, and would put us in the drivers seat to win the group.
My Revised Roster (not what I think 3G will do) GK: Zack Steffen, Ethan Horvath, Brady Scott RB: Reggie Cannon, Nick Lima CB: Miles Robinson, Walker Zimmerman CB: Tim Ream, Ventura Alvarado LB: Sergino Dest* (Eric Lichaj), (Antonee Robinson) M6: Weston McKennie (CPT), Jackson Yuiell M8: Paxton Pomykal, Alex Mendez 10: Sebastian Lletget, Matko Miljevic RW: Jordan Morris, Paul Arriola FW: Josh Sargent, Jozy Altidore, Sebastian Soto LW: Christian Pulisic, Duane Holmes Note: instead of bringing in a MLS keeper away from his club, I’d say call in Scott. Note: Out due to injury or just returning from injury: Adams, Morales, Yedlin, Brooks, Weah, Miazga Note: u23’s I wanted to bring in but can wait on: Richards, Ferreira, Ledezma, Gloster, Llanez, Servania. Note: Cut from this group - Aaron Long, Tyler Boyd, Daniel Lovitz, Wil Trapp, Michael Bradley, Gyasi Zardes, Cristian Roldan, Corey Baird. Long, Roldan, and Boyd are still in the picture but it’s time to see from someone else. Note: I’m hoping Dest accepts the call up. Regardless, I’d probably call up his replacement, Lichaj, anyways. Note that if Dest does refuse, then call up Antonee. Notes: Weston McKennie is going to have to drop back into the 6. I’m adamant about not relying on Bradley/Trapp in these games, and Adams/Morales are injured and I’m not ready to rely on anyone else as a starter. Note: Initially, I was going to run out different XI against Cuba and Canada, but given how poorly we played against Mexico/Uruguay.... this team needs reps. Although, I may start Lima against Cuba and Cannon against Canada. Note: subs vs Cuba (Soto, Miljevic, Mendez) Note: subs vs Canada (Altidore, Holmes, Arriola)
That and to give them the experience at this level. There’s no need to see Zardes, Trapp, and Roldan continue to prove they’re not that next level we want them to be at. (Although, I’m not completely over Roldan yet).
The strategy for the first 23 is going to be to win the games and continue working on implementing the new system. That means that we should expect to see many of the same guys with a change here or there. I think that we'll see both Altidore and Bradley. vs. Canada -----------------------------Altidore------------------------------- Pulisic--------------------------------------------------Arriola -----------------Adams-------------McKennie-------------- Dest-----------------------------------------------------Cannon ----------------------------Bradley-------------------------------- ----------------Ream----------------Brooks------------------- ----------------------------Steffen--------------------------------- Morris Weah Sargent Lima Yuiell Long Morales Toye Holmes Pomykal Horvath Hamid vs. Cuba -----------------Sargent (Toye 75')------------------------- Weah--------------------------------------------------Morris -----------------Morales------------Holmes-------------- Dest-------------------------------------------------------Lima ----------------------------Bradley-------------------------------- ----------------Ream----------------Long----------------------- ----------------------------Hamid--------------------------------- Arriola Weah Altidore Cannon Yuiell Brooks Adams Toye McKennie Pomykal Steffen Hamid

While I agree with most of this, there’s a snowballs chance in hell that Egg goes for something like this. Multiple guys who haven’t played first team pro minutes? Nope.
Just to re-state my philosophy on this ….. call in dual nationals, especially ones that have been contacted by other feds. If the guy isn't ready to commit to the U.S., that's fine. You know where the guy stands. If he looks like a star in the making (Dest) keep calling him in. If there is another guy on his heels, then next man up. I'm saying this for guys that have come up through our youth ranks, or have been developed in MLS. If we back off a guy, and another country capties him to play keep away. That will be an object lesson for youngsters coming up in the future. If you call up a guy for a captie-ing match, that tells you where the guy's head is. Move on to players that are committed to U.S., unless the guy is "can't miss."
I guess we'll find out soon enough with Sergino. I'm sure that the USMNT already knows what he's thinking and is planning accordingly. If Sergino can't decide this week, I call in Chris Gloster and/or Ryan Hollingshead. That lets all of them know that the role is there for the taking. It also lets Sergino know that any slip in indecision can be capitalized upon by an upstart competitor, and if that upstart claims the position than it's an opportunity lost. That's the risk for Dest here. He has the inside track on a world cup. If he blinks, I think Gloster, Hollingshead, or another player very well could step up and take the position and make it their own.
I think Gloster may grab the spot by WC time letting Dest go to right back. Plenty of competition and depth though so no slips and falls or you're out. The roster should come out soon if they're to have a camp beforehand. Has there been a date mentioned?
Maybe. Who knows. We have heard thru the grapevine that there's a U23 camp in October as well as they prepare for Olympic qualifying. So a bunch of the kids people are writing into their lineups for the Nationas League could be there instead. Ledesma in particular has talked about wanting to be at that U23 camp. I mean, the USMNT is basically a U23 team at this point. 20 players that are eligible for the U23s have at least one USMNT cap at the moment. Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, and Sargent are likely "promoted" to the first team, and won't participate in Olympic qualifying. Maybe Dest too if he chooses the US program. But this next group down that haven't impacted first team club soccer yet...……….the Ledesma, Mendez, Gloster, Richards, Llanez, etc. types are more likely to be with the U23s.
The U20's smell blood in the water and that's a good thing. they are confident if they get in there they have a real chance to play for the full team and a shot at a WC.
I could see Sargent and maybe McKennie and Adams wanting to play in the Olympics. Maybe even Pulisic. It's supposed to be quite an experience.
Sure................. But the squad has to play in the CONCACAF U23 championships first. Clubs can refuse callups to any youth event. In the past we've had a hard time getting players who are needed by Euro first teams for the CONCACAF tournament. Regardless of the time of the year. Its really hard to predict. This time the qualifying tournament is in March. The USSF staff has to prepare right now for the eventuality that players like Pulisic, McKennie, Adams, Weah, Sargent, etc. aren't going to be available for the qualifying tournament. Clubs don't need a reason to reject those U23 callups even if they don't have games.. They can just not feel like it. The Mendez, Ledezma, Llanez, Richards, Gloster category of player is more likely to be released. For the moment they're not first team players, although that can change and then release is less likely. Anyway......................I suspect that these are the types of players that are going to be at the U23 camp in October and not with the USMNT for the League of Nations. I think its even more likely as some MLS clubs in the playoff push may decline the callups to U23 camp too. I suspect there's a ton of negotiating going on behind the scenes right now. That October U23 camp could be almost predominantly non-first-team Euro-based players plus players from just the few MLS clubs definitely out of the playoffs. As clubs are eliminated, players can be added. Like say..............the FC Dallas players. Currently they're hanging on to a playoff spot. Its all hands on deck time. What's more important? CONCACAF League of Nation or the Olympics? Depends who you ask. Some people say ANY senior USMNT event should be prioritized over a youth event. Some say the Olympics in the United States are so high profile, that success there can be "difference making."
