The Mexican Nt has been a different animal in recent generations. In previous generations, fear was not a problem...talent and experience was the problem. The 1994 World Cup squad may have lacked talent, but they were not afraid. The same goes for the 1998 squad, etc., all the way through generations of guys like Hugo Sánchez, L Hernandez, Suarez, Hermosillo, Borgetti, Torrado, Palencia, Ramón Ramirez, and of course Blanco and Aspe. They were not afraid. They may have been limited, but they were in matches to win them, no matter who they played. Today's Mexico National Team just can't seem to figure out how not to be afraid of teams who play to win. The masculine culture of Mexican soccer seems to have been replaced by an "everyone is better than us" mentality. It's the same mentality that you see where fans are essentially begging to cap dual nationals and to chase after people. There's no confidence in what is here, no appreciation of Mexixan culture and contributions, and no belief in our own people. When Argentina plays, they play with national pride. They play for their people. They play to humiliate the Mexicans. How does the current Mexican National Team respond? By not digging in, by allowing themselves to be pushed around, and by allowing a less-talented team to dictate physicality on the field. Yes, the Mexican Team is MORE TALENTED than that Argentina squad. On paper, Mexixoshould be piling up cuatro a Cero's. The difference is in the minds of the players. Argentina believes, the Mexican doesn't. Argentina wants the battle, the Mexican doesn't. Argentina wants to win no matter what, the Mexican wants to win only when its easy. There is a big youth element to that lack of belief. However, there should also be a bit of excessive belief by some of these young players. I just don't see it. Personally, I think it's a cultural thing. Mexican players grow up hearing about how awful Mexico is and how much better everyone else is. Argentinian players grow up knowing exactly who they are and what is expected of them in the national team...they're expected to be a source of pride for the nation. Mexican players are just trying not to get caught up in sociopolitical drama. Do they even have an idea of who they represent and why they represent them? Do they have a sense of pride for the fight? Do they have the sense of pride that led Chicharito to continually challenge himself in his career and to execute and get results with the national team? Do they have the pride that Ochoa exhibited against Brazil, Germany and so many others when he did what it took to preserve results and intimidate those who tried to intimidate him? Where is the pride that overshadows reticence? Where is the belief that overshadows fear? Has the Mexican Team lost its masculinity?
It was one stinker of a friendly in what’s been a productive and encouraging year for the national team under Tata. We turn the page and entrust the experienced manager to learn from the loss. This is nothing like the Osorio years.
Lol, the Sarcasm here might not be appreciated by those that don't read the US threads where you get dumb shit like this.
Believe it or not, I do believe the cultural aspect is a huge contributor to the downfall of the team. Masculinity is so demonized in current society that it is considered “bad” to be competitive, assertive, and strong willed. And it is considered “good” to be passive, permissive, and non-violent in confrontation. Truthfully, we’ve turned into a nation of sissies in a very short period of time. This point is proven by the fact that men have drastically lower testosterone than previous generations. It’s actually quite sad. And I’m quite worried about the longevity of the nation. As General Frank Villa said it, “our country won’t go on forever if we stay as soft as we are now. There won’t be a Mexico because some foreign soldiery will invade us and breed a hardier race.” That foreboding seems like its coming true. Nonetheless, this shows in our MXNT performances where our team plays with a lack of heart and grit.
Well I agree with all of that except pro athletes have plenty of T popping through their vanes, including our MXNT. There doesn't seem to be a "masculinity problem" for the Dutch or English, for example. And Mexico is a nation of pudgy short dudes eating too much rice and beans and tortillas. They don't seem to have a problem. Find better players and find a ********ing coach with a clue. We are less than the sum of our parts until they find a coach.
So we need to stop eating so much rice, beans, and tortillas, and instead spread rice, beans, tortillas, all over our giant balls to see progress? I'll get right on it!
This The way Tata made adjustments in the 2nd half showed he at least makes the necessary changes unlike Osorio. Just wish Tata made those adjustments earlier, like after that first or second goal
I may be wrong, but I get the feeling like this MXNT is representative of its generation and their whole goal in performance is not to offend the other team because the other team has higher victim status. We wouldn't dare oppress the sad millionaires from Argentina by elbowing them off the ball, hitting them hard enough in the tackle that they start looking over their shoulders, and wiping the floor with them. We fear oppressing teams through soccer imperialism even though we are soccer third world right now. I find the "reticent navel-gazing soccer oppressor" role to be completely unwatchable as a fan and person who they represent when they put that uniform on.
This comment sounds like a disregard of the loss of masculinity. As a man, there has been a historic connection that meant to possess characteristics of strength, confidence, assertiveness, boldness, fortitude. Does it mean that women do not possess these characteristics? Of course it does. But men are also capable of being nurturing, sympathetic, and tolerant of others. Rather, it is the traits which are more prominent. Nonetheless, there’s a reason why men are meant to be the ones to respond when something goes bump in the night. Because men are naturally hard wired to fantasize about driving their enemies beneath them through the use of brute force. Every man dreams about some intruder trying to break into their house, and to be free to put a .45 hole in that person’s skull. Just as it is natural for a man to see a beautiful woman and think, I’d like to have sex with her. Yet, a man’s discipline and code of honor is what prevents him from acting against the forces of his civilization. Furthermore, it is relatively new to modern society to social engineer boys to become more feminine and girls to become more masculine. Some will argue this is progress. I would argue it is negative progress. The consequences of this social agenda has done little more than create absenteeism among fathers, beta males who women don’t want to have sex with, and men who exist in the shadow of their masculinity by becoming oppressive, opportunistic, dysfunctional, and cowardly. This is due to the fact that society has forsaken the role of elderly authentic men who know how to guide younger men through the journey of their own masculinity in a positive and productive way. Therefore, we have become a society of Mama’s Boys and Peter Pans. Neither of which, are the Authentic Man.
This thread is real.. On some other plane.. If you are watching this Argentina vs Mexico game, please note how these guys are hungry, nasty, savage animals foaming at the mouth.Contrast that to the selected players for the #USMNT. Naive, soft, little puppies. These things are a reflection of one's environment.— 3four3 (@3four3) September 11, 2019
Well yeah, Argentina is to us what we are to the nads, just how they shit their pants when they play against us our players play like idiots when they see Argentina's shirt.
