Depends on the lineup. No matter how good your best players are teams are usually punished for the weak links so if Trapp and Zardes don't play it could be an improvement. One problem is there are a few more weak links that haven't played or played much so if they get big minutes without the best players who've left it could be worse.

This is sort of a must win game. At least as must-win as a friendly can be.

YouTube has highlights of that game. Uruguay with at least a 2-1 edge in goal scoring opportunities. Also, unlike Mexico, they put their shots on goal, Navas made several saves.

I agree with this except I am putting Ream at left back because the game is in St. Louis.

This Uruguay is missing most key players: Cavani, Godin, Suarez, Lodeiro, Matador & Sanchez.

They're renewing, so they played several younger guys in San Jose and they looked good (I'd say the CRC-URU game was a higher level than the one in NJ).

They gave the start to Maxi Gomez (Valencia) as striker against the Ticos, so I expect "Cabecita" Rodriguez (Cruz Azul) to start this one. Other changes from the CRC game: Gaston (Independiente) in place of Coates (Sporting), Gio Gonzalez (Peñarol) instead of Martin Caceres (Fiorentina) and Fico Valverde (Real Madrid) in place of Betancur (Juventus).

In short, I expect them to try a weaker team than the one they started against the Ticos. So we might get a result, although a 1-1 or so is not unreasonable.

Since all our starters are practically gone and we aren’t calling in reinforcements...

What i’d try to do, although, know Egg will make sure the XI sucks....

    GK Guzan (Gonzalez) 46
    RB Cannon (Lima) 70
    CB Miles (Ream) 85
    CB Zimmerman (Long) 46
    LB Dest
    M6 Roldan (Yuiell) 70
    M8 Lletget
    10 Pomykal
    RW Morris (Baird) 70
    FW Sargent
    LW Boyd

    Prediction: Uruguay 2 USA 0

What does Uruguay have to gain from this match except some cash and some experience for newly capped players? We are not up to the level of competition they will be playing in their big games.

What is the point of playing Guzan? If you think his leadership is needed to be it but I think I put JG out there and see how he handles himself. No pressure. We suck right now and everybody knows it. Give him a go.

Not so sure about this. Even if we get crushed I doubt the powers that be in the USSF will can Egg. They chose him so are pretty committed to his success, which in this case means giving him a ton of rope to show if he can succeed.

It might mean a lot to players and fans tho to see the team succeed against a decent foe (even if just their b team). After that last game I suspect any neutrals are turned off the team while loyalists might find them just too painful to watch.

Egg is fairly predictable. So here I go:

You just decided that all by yourself after seeing him for 20 mins in one friendly under a confused and crap coach. True, he’s probably better off under Kreis, but the rest of us might want more of a look instead the same retreads that we absolutely know can’t play at the international level.

Wish I could say I had any interest in watching this one...

Why are there so many here picking Guzan? Is this what you expect Egg to do, or what you want to see? For all his EXPERIENCE? How much longer we gotta put up with the Lions? How long until all these guys simply retire from int'l soccer?

Didn't think it could get any worse after Couva, but it seems to be.

Assuming the plan calls for playing out of the back, up the middle---

    --------------------------Sargent--------
    ------------Morris----------------
    ------------------Lletget------Pomykal---Roldan-----
    --------------------------Yueill-------
    ------------------------------------------------------Cannon----
    ------Lovitz-------Ream------Robinson---------
    --------------------------Guzan----------

    A nominal 433.

Roldan's role would be that of providing numbers in defense and attack, a role excels at.

Lovitz: give him a run out.

If playing out of the back is a priority then Long needs to be sat or moved the LB.

The midfield trio should provide a major uptick in creativity.

Yup. That captures it for me as well.

USSF, if you're on here, please consider that Gregg may be in over his head. And if he is, shouldn't you cut bait earlier in the cycle than later?

How? The coach isn't getting fired, the players aren't getting replaced, the federation isn't getting replaced, it doesn't hurt our chances in any competition whatsoever ... must win for your state of mind, then? Well, I wish you well.

Can anybody blame them? Real pros, playing for good teams, and they are subjected to Egg's "play it out of the back", and his unadjustable "system", not to mention Will Trapp running the team.... I am sure they'll have some choice words when they get back to their locker rooms.

Berhalter has connections in management. There is no "must win".
