Candidates for next US manager: Listing managers that have experience in national team level 1. Jose Pekerman 2. Juan Carlos Osorio 3. Javier Aguirre 4. Jorge Sampaoli Now other managers: 1. OSCAR PAREJA 2. MATIAS ALMEYDA 3. TAB RAMOS 4.(your choice) In my opinion I'm only listing latino coaches because that's the only way to go hahaha. Real Talk
Pekerman, Pareja, or Ramos - absolutely I would be happy with any of those three ....we could have approached Tata but no because he does not speak English that was not going to work. Ernie - hey Ernie - aren't you bilingual?
I too thought Dest wasn’t bad and showed promise, given the circumstances. But who would want to play for a coach forcing you to play stupid? The defenders looked like “you really want me to make THIS pass? Ok, here goes ...”
unfortunately not having Tyler Adams in the midfield next to Wes is killing us. edited - notwithstanding that GGG is killing us more.
That doesn't solve the biggest problem tho - no "creative playmaker/#10/ACM" call it what you will. We almost never moved the ball through the attacking 3rd middle cause we had no one there that could receive, turn, draw attention, and make a pass. It's a huge problem. Morales/Trapp/Wes does not have enough playmaking ability. CP is wide and always double teamed. Boyd isn't really that kind of player either. We had this issue a bit when LD and Demps were both wide - but for all the stick Reyna used to get he's twice the ball-carrier that Wes, Trapp or Morales is. Even Bradley is (was, realistically). The passing out of the back died at midfield as there was no one to receive, turn and burn. We always ran out of bodies.
I agree ... but Adams and Wes are so athletic that they help to make up for the deficit that is Trapp .... kind of like Kante for Chelsea is like having two midfielders (a freak of nature) ... Adams is kind of like having one and a half players. Trapp is half a player.
When is Adams’s gonna be healthy? I see nothing in the Yanks Abroad section. He didn’t have surgery right?
Adams plays regularly for his team, and is regularly "injured" when Gregg calls to say "Hey, how's my RB doin"? It's just one of those things Fortuna spins.....
I agree. If we are going to be a team that can pass through a press, a friendly is the time to try it. In a competitive game we can always say, its not working this time, so boot it long. The complete lack of offense was my biggest concern; that is not nearly as easily fixed as making a different choice on how to advance the ball from the back.
You picked Wes. Wes. Remember Tedesco? He tried Wes at ACM, striker, DM, RM, LM and CB and eventually, just put him somewhere all americans end up, RB. Why? Because he was hoping to make him a better attacking passer. The guy who really made Schalke04 go was Goretzka. That kid was fantastic as a low lying midfield, triggering the attack. Or playing further up the pitch to conduct the half court offense. Where is Goretzka in the US camp? Nowhere. Pomykal people are hoping will get there, but he missed his chance 5 years ago by not starting down the CP path. Yueill, sorry, not in the same class as a bundesliga sub. Maybe one of the latin guys under Tab has a shot but 1. not under the current US soccer regime for racial/cultural reasons and 2. latin players can't fit into the US system because we don't play soccer. We play systems that stress a theater resembling soccer. Adams, the only guy on this team capable of playing as a professional CM with passing ability has been made a f**cking right back. That little piece of stupidity is literally all you need to know about coach, gm, and ussoccer and player positions.
Brazil Argentina England France Germany Spain ——- I should say top 12 really Italy Portugal Colombia Netherlands Belgium Croatia —— I’d still give an advantage or say we’re about even with talent-wise... Mexico Russia Japan South Korea Nigeria Chile Uruguay Paraguay Venezuela Ghana Ivory Coast Senegal Sweden Denmark Peru Norway Switzerland Poland Serbia Performance-wise though, I’d say right now, we’re about on par with Jamaica, New Zealand, Finland, South Africa, and Bolivia. And that’s being generous.
Fair enough. Though having watched Chile-Argentina on Thursday night, I can safely say our players are not close to the current Chileans. I would probably move Uruguay up also, Suarez, Cavani, Godin. Lodiero, who crushes it in MLS, did not even make their 2018 WC roster. If American, Lodiero would be a lock starter for us. So I would say top 14. But still, good list and I mostly agree, giving my limited knowledge of the current players in many of the teams in that third group.
I don't think he would not take the call up, but I definitely think the longer he plays RB, the less motivated he is to make the trips. Dest was played as LB. Next time he might play LB again or maybe LM, or maybe RM or RW. Wes might play LM or ACM. It seems to really depend on who is available from MLS at the time of selection. Danny Williams said as much several years ago: it feels as if the USMNT is pushing the MLS more and more. If he is saying it publicly, then it is being said in the dressing room. no one is immune to obvious injustice and the us squad reflects this injustice. Poor form, poor soccer, poor results.
I don't get it. Are you implying Brooks flew over and participated in training only to fake an injury at the last minute because he suddenly remembered he doesn't like Berhalter? That seems unlikely.
Gonna need you to show your work by telling me when Adams last played for Leipzig. They've played 4 competitive matches this season, starting August 11. Has he played in any of them? Or in any of their preseason friendlies?
I doubt the US will ever hire a latin coach not born in New Jersey. I would personally hire Arsene Wenger and give him eeearnie's job, cordeiro's job and both beerholders . Organized, loyal, excellent manager. He can hire and delegate across the board.
The thing is, look at our potential Olympic squad, and honestly I think we are a legitimate quarter-finalist, maybe semi-finalist, squad if we take the tournament seriously. All of our best players, minus Steffen, Yedlin, Morales, and Brooks are all u23.
Olympics could be very interesting. IIRC, clubs do NOT have to release players for the Olympics, so that could be an issue for many teams. I read somewhere that some South American teams (who have their qualifying early next year) may only be taking domestic players this time, which would certainly help our cause. Japan (the host) sent a U-22 to the recent Copa American and they played very well.
Bulgaria just gave up a goal to England remarkably similar to the nonsense we tried to pull. They must be coached by a relative of Berhalter's.
