Chris Cappis has started most games for Hobro. The kid has size, excellent motor solid defense and will score. He plays as an "8".
I think Pax plays a better 10 than Miljevic. Pax can defend too. There is a reason why he was the engine of the U20 team.
He has to help out. Our team is not that strong to stay up with the single forward. I think Sargent also comes down a lot when his side has a problem recovering the ball.
How could you possibly know that? None of us has seen an extended runout of Miljevic. I think we are also get stuck on the “10” concept and talking in circles.
Yeah, but we need him as a 6. He’s going to have to figure that one out if he wants to play for the US.
"he may be the player we need to break out the most." And how many pro appearances has Ledezma had? Just pointing out that their are others out there that may break out and fill the role other than your anointed one. And GGG has been very pointed that McKinnie is an 8.
What you're seeing isn't a #10 then. Pax is a two-way player as he has great defensive instincts, motor, and is willing to get stuck into a tackle. He's an 8. Or as Luchi Gonzalez calls his role...…………..a "free 8." I mean, these players like Kevin de Bruyne and Luca Modric aren't #10s. They're #8s. Both Paxton Pomykal and Thomas Roberts (currently at the U20 camp) of FCD have said they view Modric as a role model. You could play McKennie and Pomykal next to each other for the USMNT with a player behind them like Adams as the 6. Then either McKennie or Pomykal could attack as the game dictates. Pulisic could start wide on the left and cut in centrally. Weah more of a speed merchant up and down the right wing with Sargent up top as the #9. The kid with mind-boggling passing charts for FCD is Edwin Cerrillo, currently with the U23s.. That kid is the epitome of no frills/flash, just a connector. His passing charts are usually insane. Circulate, circulate, circulate, tempo, tempo, tempo., switch, switch, switch. It was a shock for some when this kid came out of nowhere to get a callup to the U20 World Cup squad over the likes of Chris Cappis. But that's just the skill set that Ramos felt like he needed in the group. 1166853455203487746 is not a valid tweet id
A player not many of us know about. US U20 and Celtic winger Cameron Harper. Celtic's Cameron Harper scored yesterday for the U.S. U-20 team in a 2-1 win. I recently spoke to the winger about his development, Celtic, and his decision to turndown an invite for Scotland's U-19 team. https://t.co/f0Zb8lQOTN— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) September 6, 2019

I don't watch every Chicago game but every time I do watch and if he is playing I see a young kid who still trying to find his game. Sure, he can bag one if given the space and time but when he plays against tougher MLS competition his game lacks purpose. When I see Paxton with the U20 and Dallas I see a kid that is always looking to break the opponent's flow on defense and when he has the ball he makes the right choice which is very important for his position. Not sure if you saw his last game but he made an audacious pass for the score that ended up getting called back. Paxton is becoming a dual player, not just a B2B but also as a hybrid 10.
I agree. The position at the 8s in our team is pretty much set. The only way I see him getting a look as an 8 is if go with dual B2B 8s and either Mckennie or Adams is either injured or have to sit because of a card.
I agree with most of what you are saying, perhaps the traditional 10 position is or is going the way of the dodo bird. The modern 10 is becoming to be a hybrid 8. I like Cerillo but I don't believe he saw the field at the U20WC. that was a shame.
Reading his story makes me wonder why Efrain Alvarez didn't feel like Harper did. Both were born in the US both have immigrant parents, yet one felt more American than the other. Don't want to highjack the thread but just something to think about.
Ah...…………….there's some understandable confusion here. Folks are talking about two different players. There's MIljevic of Argentinos Juniors and Mihailovic of the Chicago Fire. BOth USYNT eligible. We just tried to call up Miljevic to our U20s, but his release was declined by his club. Miljevic of Argentinos Junios is a pure attacking talent. He's either a winger or #10. For the moment anyway. He's young and developing. Mihailovic is a #8, who right now is probably on the outside of the USMNT. But surely an option for the U23s.
Culture. There is a lot of patriotic sentimentalism in the identity of some Scots. There was a large migration of economically/religiously persecuted Scots into the colonial US. Proud brothers if you will, as time has made them somewhat fond of each other (with ups and downs obviously). The culture of many first generation Mexicans tends to lean toward identifying with Mexican culture for the same reasons that Americans with Scottish lineage can be fond of Scottish culture, except that they are in a transitional time where the Mexican culture is still blending for new immigrants. Mexican (Texian, Hispanic, etc) immigrants who settled Texas around the same time that the Scots came in the 1600's formed the "Tex-Mex" rancho culture that is so awesome in Texas. Those people with Tex-Mex heritage can be incredibly patriotic and conservative, much like the Scots. Even those who were naturalized in the 1980's under Reagan tend to identify more with American Culture than with Mexican culture. It's just a matter of generational proximity, I believe.
Ricardo has already gotten significant playing time with the FCD first team. Great video of Ricardo Pepi. The 16-year-old FC Dallas product is one of the top forward prospects of the US, most recently helping the U17s defeat Mexico and the Netherlands.https://t.co/0C4K2qCiRW— ChuckMe92 Soccer (@ChuckMe92Soccer) September 8, 2019
For those depressed by the senior team, the youth teams continue to get results. 1171418811217645569 is not a valid tweet id
@Clint Eastwood Totally nerd talk here... but what are your thoughts, given the success of FC Dallas youth academy and the absurd distance between Frisco and other areas of Dallas, about an expansion team in the Fort Worth area for a USL championship team?
There's Fort Worth Vaqueros in the NPSL, who already play in a pretty nice stadium. They have some youth programs and work in the community. Could they make the jump up a level? I don't know. Maybe in a couple of years of continued investment and community support. Their owner is Michael Hitchcock, a name that should be familiar to long-time MLS fans. He's the former General Manager of FC Dallas. I don't think they're ready for the jump, but maybe someday. I would argue that we have the "must have" metro areas in Texas covered with at least USL level soccer [DFW, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, McAllen (aka RGV), and El Paso]. The next biggest area is Corpus Christi, which I think we're fine to leave alone for now. OK. Back to the topic at hand. @Sandon Mibut compiled this list in the USYNT forum. After this week, fully 20 players still eligible for USYNTs have gotten full USMNT camps. A good number with even more coming thru the pipeline. Who do folks think is "next?" At this point we may have to wait until January camp for a youth debut. It's possible for a young player to debut at the League of Nations, but I doubt it. So I'm going to go MLS based youngsters at January camp. I'll go with Mason Toye. Plenty of other options, but that's who I'll guess. Tyler Adams (99), M - 10 Jon Amon (99), M/F - 2 Reggie Cannon (98), D - 8 Cameron Carter-Vickers (97), D - 8 Luca de la Torre (98) - 1 Sergino Dest (00), D - 2 Jeremy Ebobisse (97), F - 1 Jonathan Lewis (97), M/F - 5 Weston McKennie (98), M - 14 Djordje Mihailovic (98), M - 5 Matthew Olosunde (98), D - 1 Erik Palmer-Brown (97), D - 1 Keaton Parks (97), M - 1 Paxton Pomykal (99), M - 1 Christian Pulisic (98), F/M - 32 Antonee Robinson (97), D - 7 Miles Robinson (97), D - 2 Josh Sargent (00) , F - 10 Jackson Yueill (97), M - 3 Tim Weah (00), F/M - 9
Its those two MLS guys again. Brenden Aaronson and Mason Toye team up to score against Japan u23s. 1171853434817044486 is not a valid tweet id
People are right to be getting excited about Toye, and like @butters59 posted above, he's definitely fast - the only question is to what degree. A few quick thoughts: 1.) While it's early and he's clearly got some things to work on, there's a lot to like for a 20 year old prospect. Athletic build (6'3", 185) with speed, good finisher with both feet and encouraging quotes from his coach regarding his work ethic and ambition. 2.) His numbers have been impressive thus far and now he goes to the u23s and produces yet again, and in a way that looks like it will translate to higher levels. Bodes well and is consistent with Heath's comments on the player. 3.) I like that a growing MLS provides more chances for a prospect like Toye to play early and that USL played a role in helping ease the transition from the college to pro standard. The ever increasing professionalism and size of our developmental pipeline is going to continue to produce more players like Toye at every level, from early phenoms that head off to Europe to late emerging, higher-ceiling Wondo types. The national team is just on the cusp of starting to benefit greatly from this trend.
With three quarters of the year behind us my current BYOTY frontrunner is Reggie Cannon. In 6 caps he has started 5 times and with Yedlin injured is the current starting RB.
