Alumni night made me realize why I love this team so much. Bobby wasn't the best coach, but the Polish Rifle certainly helped make early years exciting. Harkes may be a bit of a villain, but he was professional and happy to return for the celebration. Clark is one of the greatest ever, and I miss the days when he was an all star. There will be those calling for our current coach to be fired, and calling out our team for leaving points on the table. This season is lost (yes, I am in that stage of grief). I am just enjoying the storied history and celebrating the fact that we still have a team to support. One more home game and then it is 2020. Go Crew!
This pretty accurately sums up my feelings. I love the history of this team and that we're once again allowed, encouraged even, to celebrate it. More and more lately I've found myself just standing in the stadium enjoying the moments regardless of the scoreboard. That building - this business franchise - is so much more than scores. Though I've never had a brain for stats, I rarely forget the way things make me feel and as shitty as the scoreboards have been this year, it's felt good.
Two of them i knew from the Xoggz--Obi Moneme (Indy Blast too) and Ricci Greenwood. Obi is now a neurosurgeon.... Got to talk with Obi about the old days--pre-Crew.... And spent about 10 min with Fear Jeff Cunningham....
That didn't come up when we were talking--did find out that the Clarks have moved to coastal NC, though.
Note that an auction for the Alumni Night jerseys is up on the Crew webpage... https://e.givesmart.com/events/ely/i/
And speaking of douchebags, I had to check on my old buddy Keith Laughlin. It looks like he's still running NASA.
One of my favorite memories is when my Wings SC beat his team (he was coaching some of his W'ville South kids) in an indoor match. They did not take us seriously, as we were a fair bit older (most of us were O-30) and they decided to push up with all 5 and leave our striker unmarked. When it got to 5-0, then they realized that they might have a problem. Our striker had played at Northwestern, you see....
Jon Busch added to the Youth National Team staff.... Congrats to IFA GK Coach Jon Busch @HPG_GK on his appointment to the U.S. Under-20 Men’s National Team @USYNT staff. He’s with the team in Rogaska Slatina, Slovenia to play in two friendly matches vs. Croatia and United Arab Emirates U-23 teams. 👏🏻#cf97 #USMNT @ussoccer_da pic.twitter.com/tN7VrENNu3— Indiana Fire Pro Academy (@IndyProAcademy) September 5, 2019
