Dest with a very good week in the office. Excellent performance in CL play and a “tidy” on as a defense-first RB in the league match.

Seems pretty committed to the US https://www.parool.nl/sport/sergino-dest-18-speelt-zich-in-de-kijker-bij-ajax~b548dc68/

"Sergino Dest, who grew up in Almere as the son of an American father and a Dutch mother, could still play for the Dutch national team after those international matches, but there is no question of making a choice". "I have never played for a representative Dutch team. I have never been selected either. I am for the US. And I have no contact with the KNVB on this subject,

That quote doesn't seem anything other than factual to me. I'm sure he has strong ties to the Netherlands having been raised there, so if he did get a call the pull could be strong.

Agree sort of. He may be trying to light a fire under the Dutch confederation but he also might be showing that he's peeved at them and they waited too long now and he's sticking with the US.

I think it's more simple then that. He's telling the truth. He's stating facts. He's just being a smart, pro athlete. I don't think he has a great case to be peeved from what I've read. He might be trying to light a fire, but it's not much of he's just starting facts to presumed questioning.

No doubt that is another and more likely possibility. Until he plays in a qualifying game for someone it's all conjecture. If he does decently in these friendlies he may have a choice to make soon with the Nations League games.

  7. Indeed. Sometimes I read opinions from YA posters that baffle me. The Orange shirt is one of the most respected ones in the world. It's not a piece of cloth we have to push sell on someone. If he thinks the KNVB waits too long the message is "goodbye and farewell".
Virgil van Dijk, who's elected "Best European Player"and "Best Defender" and nominee for "Best Player in the World"by FIFA with Messi and Ronaldo, had to wait until he was 25 before he was deemed good enough to put on the Orange shirt.
Donot make us laugh a nobody compared to who are in the shirt, that yet has to prove he's worth to be selected, let alone wear one's of the world's epic shirts to put pressure on us?
Some posters about him need a reality check or less fantasy.

Well, I'm not putting what I think I'm projecting what a modern 18 year old might think. US just lost one a year or so ago about the same time neither of our teams made the WC. We'd made it 5-6 times in a row. If you're able to read young minds then your better than I.

You may be right about dest as the orange are better than the USMNT now.

That being said, we’ll win a World Cup before the Netherlands will (hopefully in my lifetime but I’m on the back 9.....)

Dest has to be more than a little PO'd at the KNVB for completely ignoring him while he played for freaking Ajax. That may lesson over time so now is obviously the time to cap tie him to the US.

  13. I'm not reading Dest's mind. I'm reading what some YA posters fantasize.
They're writing the KNVB is chasing him.
They're writing he's better than what the Orange team currently has on the backs. That's a claim about someone that hasnot proven one jota yet but playing in Young Ajax with mixed results against players that have proven for years to be able to face the top of Europe.

There's a pathetic urge by some people to claim a star, if necesary fantasize someone to it.
Let put it straight to you. If you want a star, you have to develop him yourself within the States. Longing for one from the dual nationality crowd, especially the ones from top national team countries not grown up in the States and with the USA as second nationality simply is deluding yourself. If that kid has star quality he's for sure going for the top national team in the world, in this case the Orange team. For the simple reason that with the Orange team one's chance to compete for the top prizes is overwhelmingly superior, let alone with the Orange team you can aim for the world's two top prizes, the World Cup and the European Cup.
If a young kid with star potency thinks I want it now and jumps over board to the USA team when he has to wait his turn, is simply stupid. Just imagin you do that and you indeed become a superstar at your club, but then you're in a national team of mediocre players with meh chances to win anything. Great choice you made.

Once again, the Orange shirt is an iconic one, a shirt that in the world represents a history of sublime matches and sublime players for decades. It's a privilege to wear one of the most admired shirts in the world, a privilege that has to be earned with a resume of high standard matches and persistent high performance.

It's not Dest that spouts that nonsense of putting pressure on the KNVB by flirting with the USA capping matches.
So I donot need to read his mind.
From what I read in interviews with him he comes across as a modest, humble kid. Not a kid that some posters make a manipulative person of that uses the USA invitations to pressure the Orange team.

LOL, this is so over the top. No one disparaged your iconic orange shirt. It's OK.

If he makes the squad, he is guaranteed a World Cup at age 25 for USA when we qualify automatically.

I'd like to think this is sarcastic, and therefore funny, but I know your posting history.

  19. So no hurry then to make a choice now.

  20. Unless Dest is eligable for France, you missed the Orange highlighted part.

While I realize English is probably not your first language, you literally said the Orange team is the top national team in the world, and therefore he should join them in this case.

If you wanted to say the Netherlands is a better national team than the US, and he should join them, do so,but don't try to say that by saying that the orange team is the best national team in the world.

  22. I didnot say the Orange team is the best one. I posted: "in this case", which is what Dest has to deal with, either the USA or the Dutch team, not a choice out of the best teams in the world.
As far as I know with my limited English it was crystal clear.
Secondly I never posted he should join us, as that's a decision I'm not making for him. Could also be my limited English, but what was ment, given a choice between two teams with obvious difference in stature, a star player chooses the top team....most of the times.
