Halftime. Ajax up 1-0 Alvarez looking real calm out there. Looks like someone who’s already played a world cup
If I get likes for that post I expect to get inundated by giving you the fastest goal picture on BS of a Mex.
I graded Alvarez at a 7.5. Really nice match from him today and he can use this as a spring board forward!!
Was only fair. El APOEL no traía nada. Team came to defend with everything and hope for a miracle counter or set piece.
Dutch match report with praise for the latino component of the team: https://www.ad.nl/europees-voetbal/dominant-ajax-naar-groepsfase-champions-league~ad03621a/ Jagen Trainer Ten Hag heeft er in Amsterdam een atypische opstelling voor uitgetekend. Chasing Trainer Ten Hag has worked out an atypical line up for it in Amsterdam. Again with numerous changes, and with a solid Latin block of two controllers: Edson Álvarez and Lisandro Martínez. A Latin duo that was primarily fetched for the defense, but that emphatically contributes to the fact that Ajax keeps getting the ball back at lightning speed.
We all thought he was brought in as a replacement for de Ligt. Unfortunately, he came in late and then had to wait for a work permit so he missed all of the pre-season training. It's still not clear what the Ajax line up will be. Blind and Martinez swapped positions this week so we will have to see what happens going forward. Ajax have a match tomorrow morning against Sparta (all the league matches are on ESPN+ which is on about $5/month). I suspect that both Alvarez and Martnez will be paired up in that one.
