Don't think he's starting, sadly... hope I'm wrong.

What? He was good in his cameo. He greatly aided the 4th goal to ice it. Watch his diagonal run in front of the shooter, rather than staying put where another teammate has run into his place, and the distraction he provided was key in buying the extra step.

He also made a couple nice turns into the box. Yeah, he skyed that one shot, but that was not one that gets scored most of the time by anyone

He's good if we buy into the old Altidore trope: "he draws away the defenders so others can assist and score."

Not falling for that one again.

... I watched the game. I rated him versus the other players on the field. He was better than average at helping his team score in his short-ish appearance. No tropes were harmed in the filming of this review.

I watched the game too. I understood why they're not playing him.

Did he end up taking a big paycut?

kinda fun thread with some video of a training bit and breakdowns of who is with whom in a couple of the exercises, fwiw. Also notes Hunt is close to being back.

I think this is about Wood rejecting transfer offers, but could still move? Someone with more time and better word skills can confirm/correct.

I didn't get any further than grossverdiener which translates to "big earner". Not hard to predict the rest of the article from there. Probably that there are transfer offers but no one is going to match his salary so he is turning them down.

Gotta admire that he still has some considerable interest.

He's making big bucks without even having to play. It's money for nothing and the chicks for free.

I can only attest to the Spanish in the tweet, which says: "The player with the highest salary in the squad, Bobby Wood rejects several offers for transfers. In the coming days he could face new competition."

based on reports pretty much any interest is MLS but yeah Wood wants to stay mostly due to making more money than any MLS offer.

Can you post links to any of these reports? Also, I imagine you'd be correct--can't see any MLS team offering more than, say, $500k salary to Bobby right now. He's on like $2M currently, right?

EDIT: I looked it up. Google says $3M.

It depends on the difference between what he's on now and what the best new offer is, but normally a top-earning player who has a contract at a club that doesn't want him but has lower-paying offers elsewhere negotiates a deal where his current club covers (most of) the difference over the remainder of his current contract. It's finance 101: the club wants him out of the dressing-room and off the wage bill. It they can get rid of 70% of the bill that they're currently paying him and spend it on new players, it's progress.

Call it, ahem, "getting rid of the dead Wood." :D

I doubt they will get rid of 70%. 50% would be a dream. More likely is 30%, at which point you wonder if its better to just keep Wood. I'm betting that's what the holdup is.

Well, the transfer window for the US is closed until January.

Well, an MLS club could still buy him for next season, but then he'd be getting paid for not playing.

    So nothing would change :(

Joking aside, an MLS side could buy him for the start of the MLS season and then loan him out until XMas. It'd be a pretty unusual move for a guy who is now a journeyman and it would depend on who's interested, but IMO any enquiries are coming from European clubs

The closed transfer window means you can't register the player with USSF. Can you loan out a player you can't register? I know clubs loan out players that can't get work permits, but those happen within the transfer window and are registered with the proper FA.
