The final score is: 3 - 1 GO SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES!!! -G P.S. = Please don't post results of other soccer (including MLS) games and other sports' games in this thread until at least 24 hours after they've ended.
Yes! Quakes win. Like I wrote in the PBP thread, this season way better than last season. Wait, what, did I just get the last post in the in game thread, and the first post in the post game thread? Sorry, I may paying too much attention to my typing.
Finally. Important 3 points. Great effort by everyone involved but If I'm being honest the opposition having a terrible defense helped a lot. Conversion rate doesn't fill me with confidence against better teams. Clinical finish by Rios. With both him and Magnus on the field ball moves around much better. Fierro is trying hard but It seems like he 's unsure what he wants to do most of the time. Maybe hasn't fully fit in the system yet.
This is why they dropped a ton of points that they could have had in the previous 4 games. Even tonight... Have to convert more good chances early. Maybe Lopez' best Quakes game so far? Judson has improved a lot since coming, too. Good game, more Wondo goals, GO QUAKES! PS The shuttle bus from San Pedro Square is awesome.
I know playing at home and the opponents they face is a big advantage but the Quakes looked completely different than the previous three games. They seemed out to prove a point tonight and almost looked possessed. Other than a few lapses, the Quakes absolutely dominated. They should have had at least a few more goals.
https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019...-saves-mark-earthquakes-set-mls-records-shots "Three Major League Soccer records that have stood for more than two decades fell at Avaya Stadium in the San Jose Earthquakes' 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Whitecaps on Saturday night. Maxime Crepeau broke Tony Meola's 22-year-old MLS record with 16 saves in defeat, while the Quakes recorded new MLS records with 43 total attempts on goal and 19 attempts on Target on their way to victory."
2 records in one game is auspicious, but it doesn't make me feel any better about the Quakes. 3 goals on 43 shots doesn't sound that impressive. Now it's true the VAN GK made some terrific saves. But we missed a ton of sitters. A ton. More than a ton. A lot.
Another MLS record fell, one that stood since last Saturday: all-time goals by an individual player. Wondo's 155th broke the old record set by him in Kansas City last week. Four MLS records in a single game, as observed by a poster on reddit.
Well, nobody is really going to beat a team that averages 4 goals a game so if they up it to 56 shots per game they will be all good. While the top few scorers are head and shoulders above the rest right now, it's still impressive to see Wondo in the league's Top 10 yet again. Nice assist on Judson's goal, too. BTW, for those who are annoyed if you can't get the English SAP feed on Telemundo, remember that at least it's THE Captain Ramiro Corrales talking even if you can't understand much .
Out of town and was unable to watch game on tv/online. MLS site said a crowd of 17,458 (or something like that)....for those of you that were at the game, how was the vibe/crowd size?
I don’t understand why it’s been so hard to watch quakes on Uverse this season. If it’s not an English broadcast, the game is never listed in the uverse Guide, and it’s never in espn+. And when espn+ Blacks out a game, it seems it stays that way. This is the first time it feels like I’ve only been able to watch/replay half the quakes games on tv.
I watch the team in open shooting warmups and more than half of those are off frame. Maybe each missed sitter in practice should be a $100 donation to charity.
Probably not that many but the thing is the grass area is VERY popular especially for people with kids when the weather is good. There were a ton of people out there last night. You still get the stadium vibe because there are a lot of people and you can hear the people in the stands, and see what's going on from the big screen.
I thought it was about 10,000. Definitely not full. My estimate is based on the fact that the 5,000 luggage tags ran out pretty early. The atmosphere was no different than usual, pretty quiet other than the 30-40 ultras
Whereas I thought it was one of the bigger crowds I've seen lately, with lots more people on the shady side than usual. Maybe 12-14,000. But people arrived late, maybe thinking it was a 7:30 start (as my family kept insisting). Our section was about half fill. At around the 65th minute, a group of young women came in, dressed to go clubbing with spaghetti straps and high heels, very drunk, wondering if there was free food in our section, jumping up and waving at people. I had to wonder what they were doing at the game...maybe someone told them it was a good place to meet guys?
yes, i noticed at kickoff that the unshady side looked as sparse as usual. But after HT and as it got dark, it seemed like the unshady side had a lot more people than usual, but due to the darkness in the stands, I wasn't sure. One thing I really noticed. I think maybe at best 40% of the attendees yesterday were wearing Quakes gear, and most of those were t-shirts, not jerseys. When I went to the CLB-TOR game last week, I could not believe how many people were wearing bright yellow Crew apparel, i think over 80% of the fans, and most of them were jerseys, not tees. I have to admit I stopped wearing Quakes gear to the games last season, because I no longer felt like showing my support. I noticed though in the Tom Fox taco talk that maybe only half the people were wearing any kind of Quakes gear (like Ned). I don't think it used to be like this... Could it be weather related?
That just shows that the team has some of its cache back. You are back on the social calendar schedule. UGH!!
I found the game live on the NBC Sports app. Telemundo is owned by NBC Universal. Passarelli and Dangerfield were doing the announcing
I thought out of market could have on ESPN+. For the in-market English feed, you had to stream it via the NBC Sports App. As for the crowd, I was there and it definitely was not 17K unless 7000 fans were all hanging out at the bar and Epiccenter.
