Thx, I wonder where Nesbeth was, she was the only player I didnt see, not counting Glory who is with her national team.
https://seminoles.com/sports/soccer/ I saw a young lady (not Clara or Lynch) with a knee brace on in the video. Didn't I hear that she had an ACL or some other knee injury? Point being, I think that is Nesbeth.
I certainly have no insight on her or her injury. That said, every injury and every surgery (even the same kind of surgery) is different. From my limited observation, Kristina Lynch is a fast healer since she's participating fully at this time. Clara was injured at least 2, if not 3 months earlier. Some surgeries are cleaner and less complicated. Some people just heal better than others.
You may be right. You obviously have some indepth knowledge of the game and of many of the players. That said, last year against 2 of the most prolific offenses out there (UNC/Stanford) we gave up a total of 3 shots on goal. Barring crazy injuries, Mark usually has our defense performing at a high level. We've had problems in years where our midfield was less than stellar. In those years, our defense would eventually spring a leak against a constant barrage by the highest level opponents. (Stanford in 17) This year, I again expect our Mid field to dominate and us to score lots of goals. I don't expect other teams, even the ones you mentioned to dominate possession against us. I could be wrong. Stanford last year, was the heavy favorite, and rightly so.
Kuikka is a loss that cannot be underestimated, be interesting who steps into the back line with her having graduated.
I agree re: Kuikka, but I also think that another year for Carle, Berkely, Pavlisko and Jaelin at holding MF should help them all improve a little. Not to mention, but we'll have Bollinger back. I know you noticed how deep in the goal they had Jeffers playing in the tournament. My point being that although Kuikka's replacement won't be as strong as Nat, the combination of the more experienced back line and Jaelin, may be as good or even better. G&G glasses?
The implication here is that the other teams will not improve as well. as discussed before, i get being a big fan, but at times it makes objective debate impossible. the teams i listed will all present defensive challenges at times for anyone they play including FSU. its the nature of the game/
No that is not the implication. I have gone out of my way to acknowledge that you have significant knowledge in the area of soccer and the ACC. That does not make it undebatable when I disagree with one of your opinions. The very nature of objective debate is objectively disagreeing on issues. My point was simply that against the very best teams last year, when we were at full speed, our defense held them scoreless. Not only did we hold them scoreless, but we held them to very few dangerous shots on goal. Much of the credit for that, goes to the midfield for dominating possession. Why should this year be significantly different? Our midfield should again be dominant and five out of the six defensive players are back. Yes other top teams can improve. So can we! Yes I am a fan. I could be wrong
What you think of me is irrelevant. and im not asking you to agree with me or anyone else.Holding an opponent scoreless may be a reflection of more than just defensive prowess. We lack stats in College soccer, but xG + xA would be a better measure. I watched a lot of FSU last year and i dont really share your opinion on defensive dominance. The top of the ACC is pretty equivalent to me. A break here or there tends to decide games.
That’s ok that we disagree. That is the essence of debate correct? When we won our first NC, We did not yield a single goal during our championship tournament run. In fact, we shut out Virginia three times that year. They were very close to us in skill and as a team. At some point in time that does suggest defensive prowess. In my opinion the biggest stat suggesting defensive prowess is how many dangerous opportunities did the other team have. That is the reason I mentioned the three shots on goal that the combination of Stanford and North Carolina had this past tournament . I have reason to believe objectively that we may be that good again. Of course soon enough, the debate will be over as results will be in

Thoughts on the game? Looks like a match from last year to me: lots of possession, lots of shots, too many passes inside the 18. Decent opening showing, though! Deyna looks fit. Berkeley looks in control in the back. Lynch with almost no time on the pitch. No Howell sighting.
I don't have access to the Xtra. Did you not see her on the sideline? Hope it's not an injury! Haven't heard rumor of it. She is 1 of about 3 players we cannot afford to lose. I wonder if she got called in late to U23. She was not on the original list. Looking forward to some first hand reports. Who took her place? Is that where Pavlisko played?
Xtra is the easiest part. It's just the ESPN app. Do you have any carrier, cable, dish or internet, that carries ESPN. If so, you get Xtra.
Well, I'm glad I wasn't going crazy looking for her. I used today's games mostly to fine tune signing up for tomorrow's Virginia game, so I was doing several things, but I did notice her missing, and I wasn't listening consistently enough to have heard the announcers talk about her absence.
I have an ESPN app on my phone, but when I tried to access the game, it asked for my provider with a long list like DirectTV, Spectrum, Comcast etc.
Just looked at pictures from the match and saw Howell on the bench, fully dressed, no wrap, braces or anything....looked normal.
