Despite this game, I love Flo. I just wish Cummings were on the field instead of Kashia.

And I wonder if Almeyda had the histrionics just to get himself off the field.

Goal differential is now 0. That could come back to bite us as well as missing any points.

The big difference is really the player quality, especially up front. In general LAFC players are more skillful, run faster, shield the ball better and they keep moving. Most of them can dribble and do one touch passing well. The offensive players are more complete individually. Some of our players can do to a certain degree; some are limited. We did what we could in this game and created some good scoring chances.

Hoesen, who had two shots off the post and bar, was pretty bad. He saw more of the ball in the second half and but his passes always killed the attack.

And if VAR would review that handball when we were down 0-2, we would get a PK and things might have a chance to be different.

Kashia continued to have problem passing the ball. The sequence of the first goal started when his long pass was intercepted.

Our owner needs to see that to compete with these top teams we need top attacking players. With that we will probably get more calls going our way.

With the new playoff format, it hardly matters.

The big difference is their ownership cares while ours doesn’t.

Rios vs Magnus: The former is stronger, can hold on to the ball and dribble, but his vision and delivery aren't as good, and he's usually on the late side with his passes. Magnus basically is a ball distributor. Can barely run with the ball, hard time keeping it even, but his passes are very good and on time.

No comment on Godoy might as well have started with 10 players.

In general, every team we play knows how to park a bus. Our defensive line, however, is always exposed and in danger because our midfield never forms a proper barrier between our defenders and opposition attack. I don't even blame our defense for the result tonight because I don't remember how many times I saw Kashia and Flo standing in front of 3-4 LA attackers in a very shitty situation thinking "********, ******** what do we do" because midfield just let them through without a challenge and an acre of space. On the other hand, Quakes had to put in ton of effort to get through LA midfield before they even got to the defenders.

Also our attackers need to get their heads out of their arses, It's not like we're lacking chances, hell it's raining chances but Hoesen is completely out of it and Wondo's reactions are horribly slow. Rios seems to be slow and more physical in General. Honestly, I still don't know why they let Hyka go, He brought a completely different skill set to the Quakes that none of our attackers have right now, like a mouse in the box, he's exactly the kind of player you want during those messy rebounds and mix-ups.

I know you're joking but it would be a shame if we don't make the playoffs (even if our chances of winning the cup are <1%).

LAFC was the better team and I suppose there are some "what-ifs?" which could have gotten another goal or two for them. But the thing that stood out was that even with the better play by LAFC, the Quakes "should" have had 4 goals. And I am not talking about Hoesen's 1st strong shot 1-1 with the keeper which hit the post. And I am also not talking about Hoesen's other strong shot which the keeper tipped over the top.
I'm talking about Hoesen 1-1 with the keeper but the keeper blocked the ball off Hoesen's foot as Hoesen chased the ball towards the keeper. And I'm talking about a cross that went across the box, was dummied by another Quakes player and went to Hoesen in the middle of the box and he whiffed it. Then there was the non PK for Vako. Then Kashia didn't have to volley it he just had to bring the ball down then kick it into an empty net.
I am a big Hoesen fan but I think it was on him tonight. So even though LAFC outplayed the team it could have been a Quakes win or draw or at least a 1 goal loss.

Look folks, it wasn't a PK.

    But Godoy's stupid hands were.

    Nuff said.

Did they ever explain why their goal was overturned? I mean I just assumed it was a make up call for the missed PK call, but they at least have to make up an excuse don't they?

I would love to understand how the first VAR call on Godoy was correct and there was no VAR call on virtually the same play when Vako was driving towards the call (which on replay on the MLS site was clearly a hand ball). Oh, wait, both calls favored LA! I shouldn't be so stupid.

I am sorry folks, the VAR guidelines specifically call out goals and goal opportunities denied. Vako's goal opportunity was denied with a defender on the ground around the ball, reviewing the play is a no-brainer. Oh wait, that would imply Stott has a brain.

The goal scorer hit Flo in the face as he went by so they called the foul after the fact.

OK, then the Quakes should have had 3 goals instead of 4. :)

But to get into 7th place and playoffs by the end of the regular season, meant that the Quakes could lose two games (this would be the first of those two losses) but then would have to match the point total Dallas achieves between now and the end of the season. (And Dallas has the easier schedule). So the margin of error narrows for the Quakes but is still open.

I don't think Godoy was not that bad, he was bound to tire out. Yueill seems to be lacking some confidence. When he got the ball, he just kept going backwards and backwards, even when he had space in front of him. I don't see him feeding any of those quality balls he was doing a month ago.

BTW, Cummings must be basement of the dog house as Kashia has not looked good for several games and yet is still starting.

Hoesen was a mess tonight. He has been on a decline lately, and tonight was another step backward. He was too slow of thought, and missed too many opportunities to lay the ball off to players in better positions. When he did pass, too many of them were giveaways. He also wasted some great opportunities to score himself. I think it was the shot off the post where he had gotten behind the defense, had a 1-v-1, and took the ball to his right, ruining his angle. He's been doing that kind of thing a lot lately.

Kashia was also a mess. I agree that our midfield failed too many times to protect the back line from being outnumbered, but Kashia was just bad in general, outnumbered or not.

I thought that we got an early break when Vega appeared to trip Vela in the box. Of course, it didn't take long for us to start giving up goals. Godoy's handball was really stupid. I thought the no-PK on Vako's shot was a fair decision.

Rios and Fierro haven't really done anything to impress me thus far. I hope that changes. Rios seems a bit slow of foot and thought; and Fierro seems to lack some instincts for positioning (and defending... he looked very lazy on that 4th goal).

But our overall defense tonight... o-u-c-h.

Sigh... I could go on about more negatives, but I think the best thing to do is flush this one and just move on. The only thing I'm still waiting to learn more about are the circumstances of the two sideline ejections. Matias may not have deserved to get the boot, but once he got it, he appeared to make matters worse for himself. Wouldn't surprise me to see him receive some further discipline from the league, whether it's justified or not. Lots of illegal touching going on there... Matias touching the 4th official, security touching Matias... and I'm viewing all of this with spanish commentary and wondering what the hell was really going on.

Stott is so past his sell by date as an official it’s ridiculous. I’m not blaming him on the Quakes failure to be awarded a PK because that was clearly a VAR decision, but I thought he was trash all night long.

I saw that before I went to bed. Even though, it may have changed the score line a little, if a pk were awarded, they will have still lost big.

I think you’re wrong. Unless the LAFC keeper saves the PK or it was missed, that swing in emotional momentum was the key moment of the game. Almeyda would not have lost his mind and LAFC would have had to play differently. I watched LAFC lose to the Galaxy earlier in the year and the key moment in that game was Zlatan’s first goal. It shook LAFC up and gave the Galaxy tons of confidence.

If the Quakes would have made it 2-1 it would have been a dogfight instead of a beat down.
