It's the dog days of summer, and the MLS playoff race is heating up!! Week 24 saw things get even tighter for those last playoff spots in the East and the West. It also saw the champs take over 1st place in the east. What will week 25 bring??? Well it's the league's self proclaimed "Rivalry Week" for one thing, so there's that. With that comes 5 straight days of nationally televised MLS games too!!! All game times are eastern, and National TV games are noted. Non-National TV games can be seen on ESPN+. Keep it neutral in these parts. Should not be overlooked at all. Manufactured hype or not, middling ratings or not, a US pro soccer league has got a lot games across major networks and that's a good thing.
Hearing that Nico Gaitan's red card has been rescinded. He will be available for the match at New England. MLS to announce later today. #cf97— Guillermo Rivera (@FireConf) August 20, 2019 ********ing why, though.
Yeah, and I don't blame any of the MLS teams this year for their line-up choices. The season started the same time as last year but there was a two or three week break for the Gold Cup and the season ends a month earlier. They have had to compact a 34 game season plus Open Cup into something like 30 weeks this year. (maybe less with international breaks). For comparison the EPL runs for something like 40 weeks. Starting two weeks earlier and not having the Gold Cup next year should allow teams to play stronger line-ups in these games. Now will they? No clue. But this year they get a pass from me since they need to rotate their line-ups at some point.
It is MLS so it could end up pretty much anything. Also, that isn't a hand ball. It is a 50/50 and the contact causes the player to be off-balance and the ball bounces off the hand inadvertently.
I wish we had just let him go when the UK window was open. He has checked out. We need to stop running to Europe to pick up an old "star." Enough is enough.
It has been almost exactly a year since Rooney made that amazing play to sprint back and steal the ball from Will Johnson, dribble back upfield and play in that amazing pass for the winning goal. I stated then that I would not question him or his commitment or his effort again; he demonstrated it 100%. But this last week especially have shown a very different perspective; he's stealing money from DCU at this point and needs to go now, or be benched. His pending departure makes it almost certain he'll be the guy we've seen recently rather than the guy we saw before.
