The Fire have never won a regular season game in Portland.
We have only won once against Portland in Providence Park in the 2016 preseason. That was the game that everyone fell in love with Lampson and didn't realize it meant doom for Sean Johnson.

Me two weeks ago: ******** this team, playoffs are dead, season is dead, Bridgeview is dead, the name is dead, everything is dead.
Me tonight, for a fricking 10p local start against a team we've never beaten on the road: GO FIRE!!!!

This franchise can dangle the smallest, ugliest, rottenest carrot (a low seed playoff berth!) at the end of fishing pole stuck to my head and I'll chase it for an entire season. ******** me.

I'm already justifying my continued attention after tonight's loss.
"This is definitely one of the 3 games they could lose..."

With a Red Stars win they will move ahead of Portland and into FIRST place, this is the Red Stars game in hand.

Portlands identity is based off a show a Chicagoan and Seattle (ite?) came up with.
Portland is lame and their over hopped edgy IPA's are even lamer.

Kerr ties it up at 1-1 in the 91st minute, but Sky Blue go up 2-1 in the 93rd minute.

I believe it head to head.

Edit: We are 0-1-1 against Portland with one game to go. Ties 4-4 and lost 3-0, so we have to beat Portland to take it to the 2nd tiebreaker GD (Currently Portland +12 and Red Stars +7)

    Here are the tiebreakers:

    Team-Standings Tie-Breaking Procedures

The team awarded the highest position in the NWSL standings will be the team with the greatest number of points (three points for a win, one point for a tie, zero points for a loss). In the event that two teams finish the regular season with an equal number of points, the following system will be used to break the tie:

When two or more teams are tied in the standings on points (3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw, 0 points for a loss), the following tiebreakers will be used in the sequence below, until one team ranks ahead of the other(s):

    1) The highest position shall be awarded to the team with the better win/loss record in current Regular Season games against all other teams equal in points. (head-to-head competition)

    2) If the teams are still equal in the standings, the highest position shall be awarded to the team with the greater goal difference against all other teams during the Regular Season. (goal differential)

    3) If the teams are still equal in the standings, the highest position shall be awarded to the team scoring the greatest number of total goals against all other teams during the Regular Season. (total goals)

    4) If the teams are still equal in the standings, the procedures described in this section shall be applied only to games played on the road by each team against all other teams during the Regular Season. (road 1-3)

    5) If the teams are still equal in the standings, the procedures described in this section shall be applied only to games played at home by each team against all other teams during the regular season. (home 1-3)

If the teams are still equal in the standings, the highest position in the standings shall be determined by the toss of a coin.

The first tiebreaker in a three-way tie is also head-to-head, but it is determined via points-per-game versus the other two teams. If two teams are tied in points-per-game head-to-head, the next tie breaker is goal difference.

NOTE: If two clubs remain tied after another club with the same number of points advances during any step, the tie breaker reverts to step 1 of the two-club format.

Well, to be fair, any over hopped edgy IPA is lame.

Portland is a great little city (and brewpubs are everywhere).
Portland is better than Seattle, but a long way.

Nobody who had watched more than a game of soccer "fell in love with" Son of Lamp.
He had a good game, but Sean Johnson has a great career.

Also, it does not matter one iota what "everyone" thought of Lampson and Johnson. It only matters what Paunovic and Rodriguez thought.

    Or this.

I thought that he was a great backup after that game. I'm pretty sure everyone else also thought that. I don't think anyone but Pauno was thinking of him as a starter.

So, I've got my scientific numbers machine running the MLS odds again and the Fire have just a 11.31% chance of winning tonight. After watching the best team in the NWSL lose to the worst team in the NWSL, I'm willing to believe that the Fire will win tonight because stupid things are happening tonight.
